Morning, Adam. Alas was not referenced to you because you laughed when I said that. And I think that's sort of, that wasn't, it was the things that hadn't changed, the competition part. Alas.
Alas. Who would have thought the business news could become competitive? But hey, we have made it so. Let's jump straight into it. Our first category this morning, Adam, and you don't know the categories. We surprise you with the categories through the week. I'm mystified. What's it going to be? And that is designed to keep your judging agile and energetic, right? The category, the first category this morning is stories that are hard to explain to your boss. And not a story that you take into work and explain to your boss. It's that if you were in this story, if this happened to you, how do you explain it to your boss? Right? Okay. I will kick it off. Adam. Yeah. How on earth would you explain to your boss that the AI system that you are testing in a very safe environment, a sandbox,
has broken out of that safe environment. And what's more, it didn't have access to the internet. It made its way to the internet and then hacked its way into another AI company on its own without being told to do it entirely autonomously. It is terrifying. But it happened this week. It was OpenAI that it happened to. And what they were doing, they were testing a new chat GPT model and another one that they described as an unreleased, very powerful model, just to see how they worked together. And apparently they worked... extremely well together success possibly too well together this is supposed to be contained and it wasn't and the company that it hacked was called hugging face which is an ai it's basically they hacked a database of other ai instruments open ai themselves admitted to it and they they talked to hugging face and they worked it all out between them so at least there's there's there's
friendly kind of um cooperation between them to fix this problem but open ai called it unprecedented which has got to be a little bit alarming when open ai is calling it that having said that we have seen this happen before right with with mythos uh with the anthropic one they were calling that unprecedented so powerful that they couldn't release it to all of uh broadly they could only do it to particular companies and then if you're a bit of a cynic you might actually say hey They're doing this to talk up the power of their own systems, potentially ahead of any IPO. But let's not be cynical. Let's just say this thing is outright terrifying because there are calls for guardrails to stop this happening
in the first place. Now it's already happened in a safe environment, supposed to be contained, not connected to the internet. It's a sandbox. This thing got out of the sandbox. If we can't control it now, the future is terrifying. And that would have been an uncomfortable call for that person to make to their boss and said, look, yeah, you know that thing, it's supposed to be safe. It's loose.
Wasn't it explained as we forgot the parameter, don't stay in the sandbox?
