MacBroz Show 71 – Throat Goat Certified: Bad Gifts, Testing Ammo & Good Vibes
20 Dec 2025
In Episode 71 of the MacBroz Podcast, we tackle one of the biggest gaps we see in the firearms world—people buying guns but never training from concealment. If you carry it that way, you should probably train that way… right? We also get into holiday gift ideas for 2A enthusiasts, breaking down what actually makes a good gift versus the absolute worst gifts that end up stuffed in a drawer forever. From there, we dive into testing ammo in our pistols and why it matters more than most people realize. Reliability, recoil impulse, consistency—if you care about efficient and effective pistol shooting, you need to test what you carry. Somehow, this all spirals into jokes about Josh’s new “throat goat” shirt, listener questions, and plenty of classic MacBroz chaos along the way. As always, it’s honest conversation, practical info, and a lot of laughs—because learning doesn’t have to be boring. Chapter 1: What are the challenges of training for concealed carry?
I tell you what, prices are getting high, but a fella still gotta get his guns and ammo. We go hunting for all them good deals online every day. Go to pew.deals, that's P-E-W dot D-E-A-L-S, in your internet. Now back to your podcast. Deal Bro!
I was sweating, bro. Refined. I would say refined. For any of you guys who are listening and those who are tuned into the radio network, if you've ever experienced, for our military guys, the gas chamber thing, training, that's exactly how I felt when Jay and I went to Ohio and we went to visit Monsoon Tactical on our drive there. That's how I felt.
So if you've experienced that, that's how I felt on the drive there. And before we get into our opening, and if you've ever experienced being a supportive husband as your wife is going to labor... that's what I experienced, which was it's okay. It's okay. What can I do to help? And he's like, not right now. I just, I'm just here to help. What can I do to help? It's okay. And I'm just over here.
Just like, I can do nothing except, uh, just let me die. Be supportive. This random town's gross bathroom. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Let me die in some random town bathroom in Ohio with no Wi-Fi. With no Wi-Fi. Let me die here. I'm like, well, that wasn't part of the plan. No.
Hey, yo, it's your boys. And welcome back to another episode of the Mac Bro Show. Hey.

Chapter 2: What makes a good holiday gift for 2A enthusiasts?
as a demonstration the one thing i see all the time there's a lot of people out there we are gun tubers but we are actually shooters not just gun tubers alone i've seen gun tubers that will draw and they'll go like this and muzzle their hand or they'll say my chest rig is really fast pull from the chest rig and then like slap the target and it's like well Is that really repeatable?
Is that actually what you should be doing? Um, so I think, I think if you ramp up a specific skill set, you know, if it's a month out, do it every day, a month away for five, 10 minutes, it's, it's really, it's amazing what I learned last year when I did a month of dry fire every single day for the month of June with my MMP and. And I did 10 minutes.
But 10 minutes is a lot of time when you're not screwing around. You're actively setting a buzzer, coming up with a drill, whether it's multiple shots or single shots, surrender, whatever it is. And just 10 minutes is a ton of dry fire. I don't do that. Probably should. But I don't know about you, D. I mean, how often do you do actual dry fire now?
Well, I tell you guys that I don't dry fire at all, but I dry fire a lot, guys. I actually have calluses on my hands from dry firing just because of the sheer amount of pluck, present, pluck, present, constant work in the safety. I'm probably doing a little bit more than I used to because I have that 2011 now, so I'm still... I'm ingraining that thumb safety. I feel like I have it down.
So like I'm subconsciously hitting it every single time. So I'm doing a lot more dry fire now than I was doing with the polymer because everything was polymer. So it was just, it was the same. Yeah, that's a great point, especially if you switch platforms. So that's another thing is that besides changing how you carry, but we'll say it, changing what you carry.
So if you're used to carrying a small, we'll call it a 43X style,
yeah piece and now you're going to a bigger let's just say a 10 mil because it's hunting preferred right a big big big glock 10 mil then you're talking about weight length all that changes your draw even though the mechanics are the same that familiarity totally different yeah um yeah and and just you know reloading where do you get your mag from like it's all there and then if you're talking about putting a chest rig on
that might be weighted what does that feel like so uh d's been a big advocate for the longest that whenever i would do dry fire he would tell me, try to do your drive fire as close to what your setup is. Because I would just do drive fire just with whatever I had. And he's like, yeah, but that's not the shorts you wear. That's not the belt you wear. That's not the gun you use.
So you need to find a way to replicate that as much as possible. So with the Hunter Constantino Leisure Carry, that's a lot easier because I just carry that way nowadays. But yeah, those are great questions. Great questions, guys. Keep it coming.

Chapter 3: How important is testing ammo for pistol reliability?
You can see it's an M for medium. They have multiple different sizes, so it comes as like a bundle so you can kind of try things out. But another one that I don't personally run, but I know that our guy Gamage does, is the Cloudster pillow. And that's basically like just a beanbag style or like a cornhole bag style wedge pillow.
pillow type thing that attaches the same way to the back of your holster um that one's a bit more pliable and mushy so not as rigid um but that's another option as well if you're looking for different options or different price points so um cloudster pillow not a sponsor just something i know our guy gamage uses and he's a excellent shooter and then tier one concealed wedges as well um
okay uh next bit of business is keep answering all the questions we won't get to the through the show um so new business for me um and then we'll come back to you a new video is out on the youtube channel jayweb 2.0 this week we reviewed this safe zegis palm vein safe and i know d was very curious about this because they're both
in the security technology field, and I love Star Wars, so when I use the Force, and it eventually reads with a poem. Yo, that's dope, bro. What?
pretty cool yeah how does it work in pitch dark does it like it actually works better in pitch dark I had it outside and I think the sunlight was affecting the infrared so this is an infrared scanner style safe it also has temperature humidity and battery life the battery is rechargeable Um, and this has, I know you might've seen, I also had a light for it as well as lights inside.
So you can, can see your, uh, your goods, whatever that is, whether it's firearms, jewelry, jewelry, that's cool, man. Pokemon cards of high value, um, for you. Hmm. That allow you to mount it down to a surface. Are there like holes for it to mount it? Perfect. Yes. So you can mount it to something.
That's the only feedback I provided the company was, if I was to mount this and I wanted to then charge the battery, I wish the charging port was on the back or the side versus on top. But... We'll see. We'll see. So just check the video out. I do a full review on it. In short, it is made in China, as is my optic on my staccato. And it's very good. It's got a lot of good features on it.
Definitely is thin, so definitely could physically open it. Put a lightsaber in the way of my hand over. That'd be pretty dope. I need a lightsaber. Send me a lightsaber, I'll be gone. I have a lightsaber hilt, but it won't fit in it. yeah, this, this is like the lightsaber I built at Disney. It won't fit in there. Um, but, uh, no, it's really cool. I will say I was very impressed with it.
And then those that are curious about the security feature, um, it's infrared. So it's like anything else. If you go to a store, you need to see how much an item is that's using the same technology. Um, it's beeping cause it's, it's my hands waving around. So watch the catch it. Um, And the other thing is that this is local storage. It's not cloud. There's no connection. There's no account.

Chapter 4: What humorous moments arise from the throat goat shirt discussion?
And there's a difference, something that I didn't know as well, that what I shot in his Canik that I liked is different than what I liked in my Staccato. as far as which ammo grain felt better. So our guns are similar, but we might have a difference in what we like and how it feels. Yeah, I'll tell you right now, man, I don't like 115 grain in the Cicada.
With the ports, guys, we're talking about the ports. I feel like it makes the staccato... I know people are going to be like, dude, it's ported. It's a staccato. It's not recoil. Blah, blah, blah. Shut up. 115 grain is snappy, even with the ports. It's just... It's fast. So it's returning. I feel like it's moving the slide faster than the slide needs to be moving.
Yeah.
So it's not taking... It's like... It's like... putting a larger turbo in your car and then not tuning your car to accept the larger turbo that's how it feels with the 150 like cool but you know you could do better with this so yeah it's not it's not efficient right you're you're you're not as efficient as possible yeah and you know We can work through that.
We have the opportunity to identify what's best. I don't want to get to the point where I'm making my MO yet. I don't have that bandwidth. But I got friends that do. And if I need to support my friends, then happy to. But if there's any brands or sponsors out there that have something that we would like to look into as well, we're always open to trying stuff. So we'll check that out.
I'm excited for that journey, man. I know that ammo is kind of like a dry subject. Some people are hardcore data sluts. I just think that, like you said, with the new platform that we're running it, we're running rolling with, um, all of my polymer guns, they seem to really like the one 15 grain. I would put one 24 every now and then, but one 15 grand was pretty good for all of my polymer guns.
Some, for some reason I put the one 15 grain in here and I was running that for the competition. And when I was running the steel, you guys saw that posts I dropped, I think yesterday or the day before. Um, when I was engaging the second target, which was a single steel. So it was two, the large target, two shots on that single, smaller steel, one shot on that.
I noticed the gun was, was getting the recoil to slow down or getting the dot to slow down for a second. Yeah. It was rowdy with the 115. I was like, Jesus, bro. Yeah. More than I wanted to be when I was getting the polymers. Yeah, we're talking – the people that we talked about at the very beginning of the show that don't do reps and concealment, we're not talking about them.
We're talking about people that actually understand firearms. So it would be easy to say, and obviously I am a very novice in information when it comes to ammo and how it affects the firearm and efficiency and the porting on it. But – I do know that I take accountability. So when my gun felt like it was a little rowdier than I wanted it to be, I thought it was me.

Chapter 5: What are the best practices for drawing from concealment?
So if you guys are still trying to shop for your favorite two way person, your family or your favorite Mac, bro, just let me know. What are some good gift ideas for someone that's into a. I would say a good gift idea is if you have the ability to shoot outdoors and you can bring your own targets, steel targets would be a good gift idea for somebody. So is that expensive?
No, I think Amazon has them. So I'm pretty sure you could get them from other people. Guys, I don't like to wait for things. I mean, yes, I did wait for this. But otherwise, training tools, I don't like to wait for very much. But Amazon's quick. You guys know that they do sell steel targets. So I have a steel silhouette target. AC Zone.
The one that you always see me training on with and Jay and the rest of the guys. Super cheap. I think it was 130, 120 bucks. Yeah, I mean, it's a gift, right? Yeah, it lasts forever, guys. I feel like they last forever. As long as you're not shooting with like a dang 50 cal. It'll last you a long time, dude. I mean... Jay, we've been using the same steel target for how long now? A long time.
I will say a long time. I think we've only had to change a couple pieces of hardware, but the steel itself has been good. And, you know, we don't go full auto with an AR in it because we don't have those. And we don't have switches in our Glocks because we don't have smooth brains. So if you take offense to that, just DM me and we'll talk about it later.
Yeah.
But there's some good ideas in the chat. So in the live. So you've mentioned steel targets. Straight Arrow says gift cards to all my favorite gun and accessory companies. Gift cards are cool. I personally don't like them. But if you know what to get someone that likes firearms, you know, that's what they're all into. Gift cards, Brownells. We can shout them out. Get gift cards of Brownells.
They have them all the time. I get them all the time. So definitely, you know, Brown Isles is a great place for that. Plot Guide Dave mentioned Fix-It Sticks. Yes, Fix-It Sticks are awesome. If you don't know what those are, they are basically your end-all, be-all needs for
tooling we used them before when we trade when we did some training in um precision rifle stuff a couple years back and uh they're very very good i actually use them today with damage because i need to make an adjustment on my uh gideon optics guardian that i've been testing out lately so um fixed sticks really good what's really cool about fixed sticks there's multiple different packages that you can get so depending on your budget or your need you can get a bunch of options there
Did you know what else you know what else that is slept on is a freaking Torx driver? Yeah That is I use that so much Yeah, you know, what's really who makes a really good one and they're friends of mine is wheeler wheeler tools makes one where you can set your torque rating and then they have multiple bits and

Chapter 6: How can dry fire training improve shooting skills?
yeah that's pretty cool yeah yeah so um yeah i would say ammo is a great gift because uh you know they're gonna probably use it especially if they're into firearms um last year uh before he left yeah rounds of nine mil and he still has it well I know. I know. I get it.
Other other ideas would be just anything that like if you're if your person shoots a certain brand, likes a certain manufacturer, they always have apparel, you know, so like go to the cotton, get a shirt, go to Smith and Wesson and get a hat. Go to Glock and get another Glock. I don't know. You know, it's just... There's a lot of things out there. I think the novelty stuff is kind of corny.
You know, the gun sign thing, the bullet belt thing, you know, just... Don't go cheesy. Be practical. I always say this. When it comes to gift giving, if you're going to give someone a gift and you know them, they're part of your life, think about them. Make sure it's meaningful. Or just get them a gift card that you know they're going to use.
It's been mentioned that you should get a mustache brush, D. I don't know. Nah, man. I just let it grow, y'all, and then I cut it and then whatever. Yeah, I have. You see, everybody thinks I actually have time in my life for that. For those that don't know, I was up at five o'clock driving to a competition. So I know your boy boy crushed it today. I know. Yeah, he did. He did well. I know.
Spotting scope or binoculars. Those are cool, too. If you know they're into shooting and you want them and they want to get better, get them a shot timer. Actually, you know what's really cool? We're going to bring this whole episode back to home base. Something I got a couple of years ago, I need to replace the batteries on it, was a laser cartridge, a laser 9mm cartridge, and a laser target.
It's just like some magnetic thing that I can stick on a piece of metal. I have it in my garage. That's dry fire right there, guys. And it becomes a game then. It makes a bell, a ding, like you're at a carnival or a fair. Super, super affordable. You can find them on Amazon. They're probably made in China. And they work, they work, they work. I mean, that's something so simple.
It doesn't cost a lot, and the person's like, yeah, I'm really getting into guns. You're like, oh, well, then maybe this will help you practice. And there's a lot of different options out there, so that's super cool too. Cleaning kits. Cleaning kits are cool. Just if you get the wrong kind, then you might mess up their gun. So, yeah, I would say definitely look into – Cleanse oil. Ammo.
Get some cleaning stuff. Get a dry fire laser something or other. Or just get them a gift card to their favorite place like Brownells. I like what you said. I like the shot timer, guys. If you are not training with the shot timer in 2025, highly, highly recommend you get one for 2026, guys. The shot timer will ramp you up so quickly for those... that think they're fast.
I thought I was fast, and then I put myself on the shot timer. I was complete trash. Shot timers will help you get you in the right place. I agree. I'm going to step away for a second because I want to get something for the next part. What are some bad gifts for 2A people? Be right back. Bad gifts for 2A people? Dang, I don't... You know, guys, we're going to have to be humble here.
