Hello, Julian Lawrence here. I've got a special episode of the football interview for you today. I've been speaking to one of this year's big Ballon d'Or contenders. I was in Paris last week to speak to PhD and Georgia winger Vishwak Varaskelia who spoke all about his journey into football, starting in Georgia to now becoming a Ballon d'Or contender at PSG. Let's go back to the start. How was it growing up in in BLC at the time? What was it for you as a as a young boy?
What can I say only? It was like about football, I think everything. Oh, like everybody when we go out uh like after when we done our lessons, we just go to the field and play all all the day.
So it was school and after school football.
Yes, even sometimes we miss classes. And sometimes even in the school like we were telling some some people like, You want to play football against us? And yes, if they say yes we just miss classes and go to play five against five.
So football was already the most important thing in your life, like the center of your life, really, from a young age.
Yeah, actually not only for me. I think in Georgia totally for the kids like football is really thing that they love the most. Uh and that time I think uh for every kid the football was like w like dream to play.
So that was with your friends and you know, school and around school. What was the first time you went actually to a proper club? And what was do you remember the first like a shirt on, training, having a coach?
Yes, I remember uh exactly because uh I was only playing in the streets with my friends and uh my father was a player and uh like they told him to maybe it will be good to go now to train with some team. And it was like really, really small team and after that I moved to another academy. Uh after two another academy. Yeah, uh I think it was when I was twelve I already signed my first contract.
Okay. So your dad was a pro. Uh how was how was that like? Was he like uh an idol for you? Was he a mentor? Was he a bit of a coach? Was he a bit of everything?
Yeah, in the start he was my idol because uh I didn't have like uh the time it was not like YouTube too you can search your father and watch. And I remember my f my mom had uh like uh I don't know how they call like DVD. Yeah. Uh you can put the the the thing, yeah, tape and you can watch. And always uh I was watching uh my father's m videos and I was in a shock, like wow. And every time when I speak with my friends and they ask me like uh who is you for you the best player? I see my my father, he was he was for me better than Messi, even after everybody, you know. And after a little bit of time I realized how far these guys was. But yeah actually my father was really Really, really good player and Mm. I I was proud.

Very much. And then did he

you as well a bit or giving you advice?
Like after the game he never speak with me to say some some mistakes. Because they wanted me to like learn from the mistakes. And never we were spoken about mistakes. He was telling me that uh I can do something better, only this, and to eat good, uh sleep good uh and po positive things only.
You're one of the best dribblers in the world now, one of the best wingers in the world. Well you was that always your position and was that pace and the dribbling always part of your game?
In one game I was right back uh in Dinamo's Dinamo Twilice Academy and I take the ball and I I think I dribbled like six players and I was like one against one to the goalkeeper and I miss.
