This is the first time that the Treasury Department has using Operation Economic Outcast to crack down on a digital asset. The sanctions here are that the Trump administration is calling a bit in exchange called Bitbank that is processing fees for ships going through the Strait of Hormuz. The sanctions say that the bank then routes hundreds of millions of dollars into the IRGC for the ships passing through the strait. About the move, the Treasury Secretary Scott Besson says designations of Iranian digital asset infrastructure make it perfectly clear that efforts to finance the Iranian regime using cryptocurrencies are not beyond OFAC's reach.
