In the last few hours, the U.S. military took out 16 mine-laying vessels. after the president warned anyone who might want to lay mines in the Strait will meet a very violent end.
Officials are closely watching the oil markets. They're drawing up options to keep the Strait open, which has so far not included any military escorts for oil tankers, despite the energy secretary saying that had happened in a post that was quickly deleted. The markets are hanging on the administration's every word, and they responded in kind. Oil prices dropped when that post went up.
They rose when the post came down. The price volatility is just one reason why the president's continuing to face these questions about how long the war will last. Meantime, a tornado ripping through parts of northern Illinois causing property damage. Fox Weather's Steve Bender with more.
Chapter 2: What are the implications of the U.S. military actions in the Strait of Hormuz?
Over the interstate I-57, Kankakee, in these areas of northern Illinois. There does look like there's debris that's getting lofted up in the atmosphere. That could be a sign of damage. I mean, this thing felt like it only took a matter of two minutes or less. We had at least 90 to 100 mile per hour differential of this storm, roughly two miles wide of broad rotation that is happening.
It's crossing over the road. Here's the concern, too, is on the backside. You have the rear flank downdraft that is playing out with vicious winds, more lightning embedded in this and power flashes that are coming in with the power lines along the interstate.
Other parts of the state also facing severe weather threats, including hail, thunderstorms and strong winds. And Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's governing left-wing party closer to a majority government after another opposition lawmaker defects to side with the Liberals.

Officials in Toronto or Ontario providing an update on a shooting outside the U.S. consulate that happened Tuesday morning. Toronto Police Service's Deputy Chief Frank Burrito updating reporters.
Officers arrived on scene. and immediately found evidence of a firearm discharge, shell casings, as well as damage to the building. There were people inside the building. However, this building is highly secure, highly fortified, and there were no injuries.
Officials say witness evidence shows a pair of suspects emerging from a white vehicle and opening fire on the building before driving away. The incident remains under investigation. L.A. 's district attorney reveals Rihanna and her family were inside when a woman fired at the singer's home. Fox's Kristen Goodwin in L.A. with more.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hockman says Ivana Lissette Ortiz faces charges of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault on a person with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling.
Ms. Ortiz, if and when convicted of these charges, is facing up to life in state prison.
The 35-year-old from Orlando is accused of opening fire at singer Rihanna's gated home in the Beverly Hills area Sunday.
