A Pennsylvania state trooper is dead after a traffic stop turned deadly in Chester County. Fox's Ted Lindner with more.
Authorities say Timothy O'Connor was shot Sunday night while conducting a stop in West Callen Township near Compass and Michael Rhodes. Shortly after 9 p.m., officials say the veteran trooper later died from his injuries. At a late-night briefing, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro made the announcement.

Local leaders are now mourning the loss, with Chester County Commissioner Eric Rowe thanking officers who he says put their lives on the line every day. Police say the suspected gunman exited his vehicle after fatally shooting the officer and shot and killed himself. The investigation continues.

Fox has learned from high-level sources the IED thrown near the mayor's home by a counter-protester contained a powerful explosive called triacetone triperoxide, or known as TATP. The initial protest was called, quote,

A second device was recovered at the scene and is still being analyzed.
