Programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and law enforcement will continue, but the employees working in those agencies could go without pay until the shutdown ends. Republicans and Democrats still have significant disagreements on avoiding a shutdown ahead of a midnight deadline that Democratic Senator John Fetterman hopes can be resolved.
I hope we decide to find a way to keep it open. The Senate is expected to vote today on a plan to extend government funding until late November, but Democrats want health care provisions included in order to get the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster. On Capitol Hill, Ryan Schmelz, Fox News.
