President Trump just signing a package of bills passed by the House this afternoon in a close vote to end a partial government shutdown. Some lawmakers on both sides of the aisle defecting for various reasons. The president calling the bill a great victory for the American people, funding most of the government through the end of September instead of a short-term package.
However, for Homeland Security, it is only a stopgap. Another 10 days of funding. kicking off debate on Democrat demands to reform immigration enforcement operations. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz still calling for federal agents to leave his state.
Chapter 2: What are the implications of the partial funding for Homeland Security?
None of this is okay. None of this makes Minnesota any safer. None of this adheres to the values of this country. All it does is cause terror and trauma.
House Speaker Mike Johnson says laws will be enforced.
These agents, these officers are doing heroic work trying to keep our communities safe, and it's unconscionable to us that you would have Democrat mayors and governors trying to impede that work.
Adding he hopes negotiations on ICE will happen in good faith and that some Democrat demands are already happening, including body cameras and agents. Some Republicans are pushing for voter ID and requiring proof of citizenship to vote, including the president, who has talked about nationalizing elections.
I want to see elections be honest. And if a state can't run an election, I think the people behind me should do something about it. Because, you know, if you think about it, a state is an agent for the federal government in elections.
Surrounded by lawmakers in the Oval Office, the president arguing the federal government should get involved if states can't count votes legally and honestly. Pressed on the Constitution, saying states should administer elections.
They can administer the election, but they have to do it honestly.
The U.S. still planning direct talks with Iran this week after the U.S. military shot down an Iranian drone and protected an oil tanker from Iranian gunships earlier today. America is listening to Fox News.

Four days since 41-year-old American Olympic downhill skier Lindsey Vonn crashed in her final World Cup race ahead of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. And five days ahead of her first scheduled downhill race at the Winter Games.
She said Tuesday that while she completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament, the ACL in her left knee in Friday's crash, and suffered meniscal damage and bone bruising, that she is, quote, confident she'll be able to compete in the Olympics. Vonn scheduled in the women's downhill February 8th.
Fox's Jared Max. Vaughn skied with a brace on that knee today, saying it feels stable and strong. It is not the same knee Vaughn had surgically repaired nearly two years ago.
