Chapter 1: What recent developments are impacting U.S.-Iran relations?
Can they talk their way out of the conflict? I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News.
President Trump, time and time again, has tried to give the Iranians an off-ramp, even before this war began. And he's trying to do so again, understanding that there are still thousands of U.S. forces on the way.
Fox's Trey Yingst reports from Tel Aviv, where there is new Iranian missile damage, that a U.S.-Iran meeting may be set up this week in Pakistan as the fighting continues.
Israeli air defense systems were working throughout the night to intercept this incoming fire. They were able to take down some of the ballistic missiles, but others had those cluster munitions on top. We could see the debris and bomblets raining down over the skies of Tel Aviv.
Now, the Israelis say they have just launched a new wave of strikes against Iran just in the last hour, trying to destroy what is left of the military structure of the Iranian regime. Now to the Senate. The ayes are 54, the nays are 45. The nomination of Mark Wayne Mullen of Oklahoma to be Secretary of Homeland Security is confirmed.
And Mullen will be sworn in today, but his department remains mostly unfunded for more than a month, leading to longer and longer airport security lines as more unpaid TSA agents skip work. And Fox's Mike Emanuel reports from the White House there is a funding compromise being discussed as Democrats keep demanding immigration enforcement reforms.
Among the ideas proposed by the White House, expansion of the use of body cameras, new limits on enforcement operations in sensitive places such as hospitals and schools, additional Homeland Security oversight in the form of mandatory inspector general audits. Officers will visibly wear I.D. and say their names if asked and adherence to laws against the deportation or detention of U.S. citizens.
Police in Washington, D.C. are looking for two suspects in the ambush shooting of a park police officer last night.
The officer was undercover in a Tesla investigating an earlier incident when two men opened fire. The officer drove himself away from the scene and was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
