Welcome to Giants Nation, I'm your host Bobby Skinner and today we've got an interview with Giants All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas. Really excited about the interview. This is my second time interviewing Andrew Thomas. Obviously we did an interview with him in the van on the old show. The first time that we interviewed Thomas... he only had two years in the league. And I think I got overexcited about asking like, Hey, random stuff, like, you know, outside of football and stuff like China, I really want to show off your personality, but I've learned that, Interviews with football players on this show should be about football for the most part. If they've got a big personality, it'll come out by itself.
And then you'll go down a rabbit hole of whatever question. But football is where they're the most comfortable talking about it because that's what they do extremely well. And I've also always shied away from player interviews just because... i think sometimes they're very boring um depending on what the player is and if it's a player that's not that good it's like what do you what do you ask them and you don't want to treat it like a press conference um and then you don't want to interview a guy who's been interviewed 50 times and you know he's just recycling through answers so um but andrew thomas is someone that i always enjoy interviewing on the offensive line uh so hopefully we should you know maybe we should do a little bit more often um
but yeah i mean we joked about the guys who have started left guard next to him but like the giants have a reach or like a real shot of like building a real deal offensive line and andrew thomas is a big part of that and i do want to talk about like the offensive line a little bit before we kick it to this interview because obviously you know this is kind of the time where it's like you just you know think of these things about the giants of team building and stuff um You can't add a first-rounder every single year like the Giants did with Francis Malignano. But right now, they are in a position to be a good offensive line, but to, going forward, try and build a great, consistent offensive line.
You've got Jermaine Illuminor locked up for three years. Andrew Thomas is 27 years old. Francis Maui Noah, a rookie who just turned 21. That is three key pieces that you plan to have here for the next three years or two years at minimum if you want to move off of Jermaine Illuminor's contract. And then you look into the future where the Giants have some free agency money and guys that are going to be available. You have the opportunity to get a top guard in free agency. Do it. You're saving all that money. What are you saving for? Do it with the offensive line. Get an offensive lineman with your second-round pick. Just keep reinvesting into your offensive line early while taking swings on day three guys like Marcus Bowe and J.C.
Davis. if you do that every year and you get a starting level player, every third guy, or, you know, a couple of good backups, like that's success when it comes to the NFL drafting the offensive line. And I don't have the numbers to back it up. It would be good to go look at a study of like where all pro players come from, but with like quarterback left tackle edge, it's like, you never really see the top players come from the late rounds. Right. And you don't see that for most positions, but like you see it at the interior offensive line, I think a little bit more like, You want to raise Jackson Dart's floor and ceiling as a quarterback? You do that, right? That's what you do is you invest into the offensive line with free agency, high draft picks, and late draft picks consistently.
