Welcome to Giants Nation. I'm your host, Bobby Skinner. And today we've got a little bit of a grab bag. I might title the episode Spain Grab Bag. My last episode while here in Spain, I believe, I believe. And I didn't want to force anything or, you know, let's do a beat reporter interview. I've kind of gotten tired of those. Like, you know, the OTAs and stuff are over. Like, we'll revisit those once training camps start. So I said, you know what, let me do a solo episode, which I had not done in a while, and go look at old mailbag tweets and see if there's some questions that we didn't hit on. Kind of do some quick hitters. So this episode, I don't know how long it's going to be. It could be 20 minutes.
It could go a full hour. We'll see. But it's just kind of some things that are on my mind. And, you know, we'll talk about the Andrew Thomas interview a little bit as well, too, because I really enjoyed that. First, like and subscribe and roll on. But if you're watching this, you already probably like and subscribe. This episode, though, is brought to you by some special people. And the special person this week is Mike Nicola. Not Nick Mykola, but Mike Nicola. He went to patreon.com slash Giants Nation. Supporter of the show. The lifeblood of the show. You know, the whole Brendan Soros-y thing. Um... Obviously, like it's not it's not fully hypocritical to take gambling sponsorships and then like talk about like like, hey, you can do it responsibly.
You're not like, you know, it's like if I take an alcohol sponsorship, I'm not saying, oh, well, now it's time to go drink and drive. But also it's just like, I mean, I wish the NFL would have more legs to stand on if they just didn't take those sponsors, which they don't need them. Um, but you know, that's what the patron allows us to do is to say no to stuff like that. So patreon.com slash generous nation, $6 a month, always, uh, you know, put, you know, push the nine 99 tier. You get more shots at t-shirts, um, and all that good stuff. And then film reviews will be, you know, starting up on the season. And then we're going to do our t-shirt raffles and our book raffles, uh, We're going to do June and July all together.
So make sure you're joined in for the double raffle, even though it's just the normally slaughter raffles. Patreon.com slash Giants Nation. We'll be glad you did. So the first thing I wanted to do was there was an article that came about Albert Breer. I guess like kind of like a note on every team's OTAs or whatever. And so I pulled this from it when his note on the Giants. He said, speaking of former first-round picks in that scheme, maybe there is still hope for Deontay Banks with the Giants? The 24th pick in the 2023 draft has had a pretty rough indoctrination to the NFL. After starting all 15 games he played as a rookie, one of his biggest champions before draft day, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, was let go.
Banks wound up regressing in his second year, then got benched last year, playing only 44% of the team's defensive snaps, despite being active for all of the games. The Giants then predictably declined Banks' fifth-year option for 2027, turning this year into a contract year, and the fourth-year pro has responded with a nice spring, flashing confidence that seemed to have left him, and may be a product of going back to the system run by Joan Harbaugh's new D.C. Denard Wilson that's like Martinsdale. So... Kind of predicted, correctly predicted, like, no, Deontay Banks is going to get a lot of unnecessary hype this offseason. Like, you know, new stuff.
