And today, we are kicking off our six-week series, 18 episodes, 35 players on the New York Giants, Player Profiles and Projections. Doesn't it feel good just to do that intro, dude? It just, I can feel the training camp heat on my shoulders, even though it's not quite happening just yet as we're recording this. But for those listening, that means that we're in the thick of it. Football season is happening right now. Training camp is part of the season as far as I'm concerned, which means this is the best time of year there is.

Not always, but we started with Sterling Shepard. And we're like, hey, Sterling Shepard's the guy. And Sterling Shepard became the longest-tenured player. When Shepard left, we're like, all right, Darius Slayton. We'll do Darius Slayton as the, you know, he's the longest-tenured player, you know, part of the longest-tenured player. You know, a wide receiver. He's not the best player on the team, so we're not starting off with the best player.
So we will start off with Darius Slayton, 6'1", 198 pounds, 29 years old, the longest-tenured giant alone now. That Dexter Lawrence is gone. He's the senior member of the receiving core heading into his season eight. The clear and away best day three pick by Dave Gettleman, who has gotten two different contract extensions. But we're now two years in a row, Grump, where he hasn't led the Giants in receiving after four or five where he did. And this is the most work the Giants have done to replace him since 2021 when they signed Kenny Dalladay and drafted Kadarius Toney. 2025 was a rough year for Darius Slayton. The reason you resigned him happened, and he answered it with his worst season in five years.
It's actually funny. If you just look statistically at last year, it's... I don't think it's like outlier levels of horrendous, but I think it's just the eye test of everything went wrong for Darius Slayton last year. And also I think there was a lot of disappointment on my end and the connection with Jackson Dart just simply didn't happen. The same old bugaboos continue to happen with drops at the most inopportune time. And that is the thing that people are always going to remember are drops in general, no matter the receiver, they'll remember that more than anything. But a lot of the numbers do kind of land in the statistical norm for Darius Slayton, including drop percentage, completion percentage.
It's a significant dip in yards and touchdowns, and that's the statistical standout right there, other than just the eye test of not looking in sync at all last year.
The difference is that... Malik neighbors wasn't here on this team, you know? So like he was that number one outside wide receiver. And that's where it's like, ah, you should have, you should have had 700 to 800 yards and be like, man, another Slayton 700, 800 yard year. Right. Or even more so than that. And it's okay. Not to say that Wanda couldn't, you know, be the number one receiver once Malik neighbors went down, but for Slayton to have like such little production, like, you know, like there's a, there's 11 games without Malik neighbors and,
