Welcome to Giants Nation, I'm your host Bobby Coonan here with my co-host the football grump and guest co-host Danny King. Because it is our annual over-unders podcast where we look at the Giants, we put together some numbers and we say are they going to be better or worse than this? Grump, Danny, how we doing fellas?
Doing good is always exciting to get towards. This over-unders podcast means that we're right around the corner, dude, so I couldn't be more excited.
And it's a nice way to kind of put, like, hey, this is what's going to happen. Like, this is what's going to happen with this individual player, and let's see if you were right or wrong. We also have an interview with Jared Gray, the third offensive tackle interview in, like, a month for us from the International Pathway Program in Australia. So we got that at the end as well, too. So any of the... Aussies that are joining us. Very hard for me, Danny, to not finish every question on that interview. But I did it. How are you, Danny? I'm good.
Like Rum said, almost training camp. Summer, almost August, which is kind of crazy. But yeah, we're living the dream. We're having a ball out here.
Having a ball. I have a ball in my hand, actually, right now. A tennis ball. Not taped to my hand, Joe Judge style. So we're going to get into these over-unders. So I went and looked at last year. And I went five for nine. Grump went six for nine. Good job, Grump. The listeners went one for nine. Now, I'll say this. Last year went really bad. So the negatives on this went seven for eight. Like the negative, what was the lone positive one was the Brian Burns over under nine and a half sacks. And the listeners, that was actually not the one that they got right. They went under on that. The one that they got right was under on Paulson Adibo three and a half sacks, which was pretty ambitious. But that brings me to my point.
These over-under numbers, they're not crazy ambitious, but they are a little ambitious, right? This is not a, hey, let's set a nice super realistic or a little bit lower expectations and stuff. This is basically like, hey, let's see if you can take it a step up or whatever. Asking guys on the team to take somewhat of a step up or if you're a star player, being realistic. So these are not... Meant to be super easy over-under. I want to make it tough. I don't want us to go over, over, over, over and pick the fun over-under. So we are going to kick it. We have eight categories this year. The first one is Jackson Dart over-under 27.5 total touchdowns. I'm going under on this, guys, and I'll kick it to you in a second, Grump.
So the way I came up with this number is that I went, you know, last year, you know, quarterback total touchdown numbers. This would put him tied with ninth with Justin Herbert last year if he hit this number, right? Stafford was number one with 46. Herbert was ninth with 28. Dart ended up being tied for 15th with 24 with Daniel Jones and Jacoby Brissett. Now, obviously, he missed games, but that is part of this. The thing that... I'm not sitting here being like, oh, he's going to get injured. He's banking on injuries. But I also understand, like, hey, they're going to run him. He may miss a couple games. He hasn't missed a ton of games in his career. I think only two games in college and the NFL. But he could.
The main thing for me, though, is that nine of his touchdowns last year were on the ground. You know, like if you put his touchdowns last year on a 17 game rate, because if you're doing like, well, if he plays more games this year, that's 21 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns. And there's just such a low chance of him having even nine rushing touchdowns again that if he misses some games, it could throw a wrench in it. I think the Giants will have a more run heavy attack. which doesn't necessarily mean he's not going to have opportunities, but there's going to be some second downs where they'd run the ball where in years past they would be passing plays.
