Chapter 1: What are the details of the Giants signing Daniel Faalele?
Everyone's trying to get it right, get it right
Welcome to Giants Nation. I'm your host, Bobby Skinner, here with my co-host, the football grump. Man, we're grinding through. Draft month is getting through. And the Giants keep signing offensive linemen. If they were going to do this, do it right before draft month. But they waited until now. They signed Daniel Falele from the Ravens. We'll talk about that.
And we've got our linebacker draft preview. We're going to go through eight guys, talk about them, analyze them, blah, blah, blah. Grump, how are you?
I'm doing okay. We're at the end of the week.
Chapter 2: Who is Sonny Styles and what makes him a top linebacker prospect?
We got linebackers coming up. Excited to talk about that. We signed offensive linemen. That's a step in the right direction. I was getting a little bit worried. I don't feel too much better, but I do feel a little bit better. So, lots to talk about tonight.
Let's talk about Daniel Falele. If it's a backup guard, okay.
Chapter 3: What are the strengths and weaknesses of Arvell Reese as a linebacker?
But here's where I'm getting a little cautious. is now they've signed two guys, right? And they signed Aaron Stenney, who we've talked about, like, that's a backup card, right? It's like, look up backup guard in the dictionary. It's Aaron Stenney. Um,
But the longer they go without signing a starter and signing more of these guys, the more I'm like, is this a competition between these guys with Daniel Falele? Because that's where I get a little worrisome, where we got the draft coming up, right? Obviously, the starter could be added there.
Chapter 4: How does Jacob Rodriguez stand out among linebacker prospects?
And if they're planning on being in the first round, these moves all make sense instead of going and signing Greg Van Roten or whatever. If they aren't planning on doing the first round, then they're taking some real chances if there's no plans to sign somebody after the draft.
either right like i'm i'm i don't i do not want to go into another draft being like well we got to get a guard sometime in the second round or or whatever right like i wanted to keep drafting offense alignment but like pitching your whole pigeon like you know just putting yourself in a spot where it's like hey we we have to draft this position by this point is a it's a losing strategy grump
The richest men in the universe didn't get rich by putting all of their assets into one stock. Right. So I agree with you. Every single day that they go by and this is all they have for offensive linemen is a concern. But I mean, a week ago, they didn't have either of these guys.
Chapter 5: What should we know about Anthony Hill Jr.'s playing style?
So this is this is a slight step in the right direction.
Yeah. So the hope the hope slash cope is that these guys are the backups. So let's talk about Daniel Falele as a player.
Chapter 6: What are Josiah Trotter's key attributes as a linebacker?
And then overall, he's 6'8", 380 pounds, 26 years old. Remember him coming out of Minnesota. You know, a big-ass dude. I remember even doing a film breakdown of him at Minnesota.
Chapter 7: How does Kyle Lewis compare to other linebacker prospects?
And I liked his college film because he was just able to just dominate guys with his length and his strength. He's been starting the last two seasons for the Ravens. Last year gave up four sacks, three quarterback hits, and 23 pressures, which was 61st out of 85 guards in efficiency. The year before, one sack, three hits, 28 pressures, which 45th of 78.
In the run game, there's a lot of struggles there. Here's what I'll say before we talk about him, like what he does well and what he struggles with. He's not Evan Neal, right? I know it's like, oh, he's the Ravens' Evan Neal.
Chapter 8: What insights do we have on Bryce Boettcher as a linebacker prospect?
um and it's not just because Evan Neal was pick seven and Daniel Folele was a fourth rounder but it's just it's it's not Evan Neal worth a drubbing every play right where like a wash is a good thing with Evan Neal or that was the issue with Evan Neal like man we don't even we don't see good plays right there's nothing to grasp on to to hope to get to with Daniel Folele there is some good really good plays when he's using his size and length in the pass and run game the issue is that
There's fairly consistent losses in there, and those losses are quick and terrible, and they can end drives. They can destroy plays. But it's not someone who is getting beat every play the way that Evan Neal was.
No, actually, I think that's a perfect way to put it because when the Giants signed... When the Giants re-signed Evan Neal, when John Harbaugh said that he really liked him or whatever, you know, there's the instant reaction because we're Giants fans and because we know Evan Neal already. We don't need John Harbaugh to see him. But...
Then there's the calm down realization that Evan Neal is probably a camp body, and this is a very cheap guy that is like, you never know. Maybe one more year. Maybe this is it. Maybe the right scheme was going to do it. Maybe he is now going to transition to become possibly a backup guard. Daniel Falele is already a backup caliber guard. Not a very good one, but he's not. Let me ask you this.
When it comes to the run game, how far do you think him and Greg Van Roten are from each other?
Well, Fulele had some great moments. Now, I will say, he did have the advantage of playing next to Tyler Linderbaum, which did make a difference. So, Greg Van Roten was better at not having these big whiffs, but Greg Van Roten was a negative in the run game for the Giants. And this is where it's like, you know, Evan Neal, blah, blah, what can we get out of him? You know, another workout video.
It's like, man, it's not happening. Evan Neal's not making the team. He's going to show up at the training camp. He's going to be talked about good by the people who work for the giants. And then he's going to be bad. And then he's going to be cut. He's not going to be, he's not going to make the team unless everyone gets hurt.
Philly is going to make the team like, you know, like unless they do go and get a bunch of, you know, two, two or three offense alignment in the draft, Lucas, Patrick and Aaron Stinney beat him out for the backup. And then there's that chance. But like, he at least has a shot. Um, And let's talk about Philele as a player, his strength, jump setting and pass protection with his length, right?
He's big, strong and long. So if he gets quick and he gets on a defensive lineman, he controls that block as a pass protector. Now he doesn't slide his feet very well. He lunges as he punches and guys are able to dip around him with that size. Uh, there's times where if he's jump setting to get aggressive on a defensive lineman, they work louder on them. They, they smoke them and he turned around.
