What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Like the pine trees lining the winding road I've got a name, I've got a name Like the singing bird and the croaking toad I've got a name, I've got a name And I carry it with me like my daddy did. But I'm living the dream that he kept here. Moving me down the highway. Rolling me down the highway. Welcome to the Giants Nation.
I'm your host, Bobby Skinner, here with my co-host, the football grump. And we've got ourselves our June mailbag episode. We've got some good questions in here. Talking through the wide receiver room. A little bit of offensive line stuff. Pro Bowl. We're doing some Pro Bowl predictions. Grump, how you doing?
Doing good. Finally home after several weeks out on the road, but nice to be home and ready to talk mailbag stuff with people. We've been doing nothing but talking to people for a while, so now we're recording ourselves answering questions, so I'm excited to get into this.
We are recording this... Five days early. I'm hoping nothing happened. Nothing happened. If something did happen, you're going to hear about it in the five minutes where it's like, hey, something happened. And then we'll take it to the mailbag we had recorded. So I hope nothing happened.
The precedent this year is that something is going to happen.
Yeah, you know what? Hopefully the only thing that happened was some NBA Finals games. Either the Knicks are on basically five days of celebrating, or we're heading towards a Game 7. So we'll see. All right, this episode is not brought to you by anybody because we have no new patrons. Take it away, Steve.
Meltdown. Meltdown. The mail's here. Come on. Here's the mail. It never fails. It makes you want to wag my tail. When it comes, I want to wail.
Mail! Thanks, Steve from Blue's Clues. Grump. Let's get into the mail.
All right, first question is from Doug E. Fresh86. How do you envision the wide receiver group playing out with the three new additions? And does the use of more two tight end sets affect who you may keep now after your initial projection? So those three being Odell Beckham Jr., Juju Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios.
Yeah. So I actually want to talk through like the season, not just making the roster. I think we've kind of because Odell is a bubble player for, you know, you know, all time, you know, great Giants player. And where he's talking about a bubble play, we talk so much about making the roster. I actually want to kind of talk through that and like, all right, but how does things happen when we start playing football? Because that's what it's all about. Um, so we also got a week ago when you're listening to this, I'm just going to stop saying when you're listening to this, I'm just going to say a week ago, Joe Shane said Malik neighbors should be fine for week one, you know, and he did that last year with Andrew Thomas and, and it kind of came back to bite him a little bit, but like, I'm going to use that information as of now.
Right. And it's, it's not unprecedented either for a player to have that injury and be back for week one. It's almost expected. So like you have Malik neighbors, uh, I don't think he's going to start on his pop or IR. He's Malik Naver. Maybe he misses the first game or something. Then you have Malachi Fields, who's the lock as a third-round pick. And then we view number three through five as Slayton Mooney and Calvin Austin. And it feels like those guys are solidly on the roster. Do you have anybody from that group where you're like, ah, maybe not so fast. Maybe it's this training camp or anything, something that changes that group.
No, I mean, I think that those guys make the roster. I just disagree. I think neighbors is going to start on the PUP list. It has nothing to do with me overreacting to any video clip of anything. It's just simply what he said. You know, he's not going to play if he doesn't feel ready. There seems to be an elongation of his projected potential. I'm just basing it on I just don't believe that he's going to push himself if he doesn't feel ready. And I think that the signing of all three of these additions that we're going to talk about was an indication of insurance in case he can't start.
