Chapter 1: What changes did John Harbaugh make to the Giants' coaching staff?

And John Harbaugh is making moves. It's just beginning. He's starting the purge. A lot of coaches are gone. We knew that was going to happen. But Kevin Abrams, been here since 1999, gone. Ronnie Barnes, senior vice president of medical services, head athletic trainer, untouchable.
Chapter 2: Who is NYG Daily and what insights do they provide?
Still here, but not going to be doing the same role that he had, basically giving him a nice retiree job. He's going to be a Walmart greeter in the training room. Grump, how are we doing? How are we feeling? I'm so excited that John Harbaugh is our coach.
You know, if they got whatever other coach we talk about and stuff, I don't think there's anything that could have made me more excited about John Harbaugh purging out the leaven that is the Giants way. That is just leaving people here for lifetime appointments, not touching anybody that, you know, is friendly with ownership and has been here for a long time. It's exciting to me.
I don't know if John Harbaugh is going to be successful as the head coach of the New York Giants. But in the last 24 hours, he's done more to set this franchise in the correct direction than the last three head coaches put together.
And it's more than just these two individuals, which we're going to talk about, right? We'll have NYG Davis coming on. We'll talk about it a little more. It is more than just these two individuals like, okay, now we have these roles freed up to help the Giants. It is the fact that the Giants do not like change at all. And they want to change as little as possible and hope for a better outcome.
And John Harbaugh is not giving them that option. So like, like you said, this may not work out, but it's not going to be because the same old stuff of the giants, you know, kind of just living in their giants way. Um, And we'll see how it works out. Like you said, how many games we went with John Harbaugh, how many playoff games, how many, if we get the Super Bowl, blah, blah, blah.
And we'll look back at it. But when I look back at John Harbaugh, I'm going to be thankful for what he's doing with this Giants team. And it's only beginning. There's going to be more changes. You know, player personnel changes you really can't make until after the draft because of the Brandon Brown rule. So we won't see a ton from there. So...
I'm just excited, with a smile on my face, and I don't feel bad about it. I think there's a lot of hand-wringing over like, oh wow, Giants fans, show some class. Okay, Kevin Abrams was here since 1999. I think a lot of people like him. You know why he's well-respected, that word gets well-respected?

Chapter 3: What does the reassignment of Ronnie Barnes signify for the Giants?
Because he's a source. He's a source for a lot of people. He's been leaking out of the building for 30 years, and specifically as of late. And I don't want to hear about class coming from the Giants when...
And they talk about class, they fire somebody, and then all of a sudden we start hearing leaks and takes of like, oh, this guy did this, this guy did that, all that type of stuff, burning them on the way out. It's blame shifting. Yeah, they just shift all the blame onto the guy out the door.
Ronnie Barnes may have been the greatest VP of medical services and head athletic trainer, but what bothers me about that is he was protected class. He was not just untouchable for the Giants in the sense where they told him he has a lifetime job. He's been here for 50 years. We'll get all into this. He was not allowed to be criticized. I'm serious.

Chapter 4: How has Kevin Abrams' tenure impacted the Giants?
There is nobody that they would go after harder than that. Like he, they, they wouldn't, they don't even let you think about criticizing him or they're going to be on your ass. Uh, and so to have somebody like that gone, I'm happy. Even though he's not gone, uh, So we'll talk about it all with NYG Daily. But I am happy.
I am happy about change and not just replacing coaches, which has been the option for the Giants over the last, you know, 15 years while they've been struggling. It's, oh, just replace the coaches, you know. And I said this in my tweet, Grump. I'll repeat it here is... Like, hey, yeah, these people are personal. They have their own personal lives and stuff. Ronnie Barnes, one, he's not fired.
Number two, you know, he's been here for 50 years. I don't think I would never feel bad for a guy that's rich being in the 70s told like, hey, you got to you got to go home.
Chapter 5: What does the Giants' history of coaching changes reveal?
Kevin Abrams has been here for 30 years. We'll talk about it individually. But you know what? Tom Coughlin, he did way more for me. Don't talk to me about the way this guy did this contract and this guy was at Wellington Mayor's bed. For us as Giants fans, Tom Coughlin did way more for us than any of these guys.
Tom Coughlin won me two Super Bowls, and four years after his second Super Bowl, they fired him. They fired him four years after that. So if that guy can go, then anybody can go because he did way more for us than those guys ever did.
John Mara owes Tom Coughlin a lot more than he owes Kevin Abrams or Ronnie Barnes. But, you know, we'll get in all the nitty gritty details with NYG Daily. But just to kind of summarize, before any of this happened, about 24 hours before any of this happened, I was just kind of thinking about like the John Harbaugh press conference and, you know, how everything went and how I was feeling.
And I realized that a lot of time has passed since I've started like truly like covering this team. And I've been around for several leadership changes. And this is the first time that it actually felt like this was a leadership change. Like there was a true new leader in the building, not just the new face. And in a lot of cases, they weren't even new faces. They were recycled faces.
So I said that. And then later that night, we started seeing the guillotine fall. So I mean, I'm glad to know that my feelings were rooted in something concrete.
Yeah, and Harwell's not the first to try. He's the first to have the clout to do it. So we'll talk about that. You know, like Joe Shane, he made some changes. He tried to make others, you know, Joe Judge even. But we're going to bring in Weiss, NYG Daily, and we'll talk about it with him. First, this episode was brought to you by some special people. Chapter 6: What are the implications of the Giants' approach to player personnel?
They also get access to hang out during live recordings of these episodes. And most importantly, they get weekly game tape breakdowns during the season that Bobby does. And they were all glad that they did.

I'm curious who ends up getting sent then, like Brandon Brown?
Yeah, I don't know. I guess they're busy. I don't know. I would think that Joe Shane ends up going. Maybe he's just not going for the full trip or whatever. Obviously, they're busy with some of the stuff they're doing. But, yeah, maybe I ends up being wrong. But, yeah, he's not coming to Mobile, Alabama. All right, let's bring on NYG Daily.
We're now welcome on Weiss of NYG Daily to help us just talk through this. Because I think we're all just excited about the fact that the Giants actually did the damn thing with Ronnie Barnes. And Kevin Abrams, I think Ronnie Barnes speaks to this a little bit more because Kevin Abrams, he fired like, oh, that's a firing that happens when you get a guy to power.
Ronnie Barnes, well, not fired, right? And he's still keeping his senior VP of medical services title, but he's giving up the head athletic trainer title and they're going to hire a head athletic trainer, which again... keeping his title or whatever, his role, but they're just paying, they're going to hire someone to do all the same things that he did.

Chapter 7: How do the hosts feel about the upcoming Senior Bowl?
And if you don't love it, like Kevin Abrams was an assistant GM for 20 years, 20 years. And then I'll give like, I give Joe Shane credit. Joe Shane probably wanted to make more changes than what he did. But he didn't have the pull that John Harbaugh does. Just like, you know, Joe Judge wanted to make some changes and he didn't have the pull that John Harbaugh does.
And that's why, like you mentioned, why these contract negotiations were huge. Those three days felt like forever and they were like, man, when's it going to get done? I am so happy for how long those three days took because John Harbaugh was stubborn.
And we'll talk about, I wish the Giants were a little more receptive to this and not pushing back and saying, hey, keep this guy in that role because they're going to do that and they're doing it with other positions. But...
Chapter 8: What are the highlights from the return of the 'Giants Stories' segment?
Like, where's the competitive fire from a guy, Kevin Abrams, assistant GM, build to be the next GM. You don't get that spot. And then you decide, oh, I'll be... I can get this fake title of senior VP of football operations and strategy. Like, why not? Like... To me, that's pathetic. That's a guy who's just happy to be there and collect a check.
Where it's like, man, you don't want to go try and prove yourself elsewhere. You don't want to go get a job with the Tennessee Titans or the Buffalo Bills and prove yourself elsewhere outside the Giants. You just want to stay here, leak things to the media. And that's why you see everyone call him well-respected, by the way. And that's code for they're very friendly and they text me quite often.
So let's get some of the leaks out of the building. And for John Harbaugh's sake and Joe Shane's sake to a little bit, even though Joe Shane has very much ingratiated himself with a lot of these people. These people can be your worst enemy because they are lifers, and I'm ready for more to get out of here. They trash these people.
They trash them while they're here, and then they really trash them on the way out. I won't even say some of the names who I know are some of these people. They should be gone. If I get to shake Joan Harbaugh's hand in the next two months, I'm going to say, hey, here's three names for you. These guys are not your friends. I'm like dead ass serious about this stuff because I want this to work out.
And I want John Harbaugh to know which battles he's got to face. Obviously, he's got people in his place if he's doing this in the first couple of days. But like, I'm so fired up and so excited about this. The only worry I have is just like, don't lose that fire, John Harbaugh. Keep pushing. Keep fighting. Don't even pick and choose your battles. Fight every damn battle with this wall.

Well, I do wonder how much success he has to have and how quickly he has to have it. Like, do any of these uncomfortable moves for the Giants shorten his leash on that sort of thing? It's like, dude, we made every uncomfortable change you asked us to, and we're still not winning. You know what I mean?
But if we're year three or whatever or so, then, yeah, we're having a conversation as a football, but we're still happy all those things happened for the Giants. For sure. And those guys aren't going to get reinstated when he's gone. So, like, I'll be happy ā you know, hopefully he's not making changes like that in year three. He's just got the thing set up.
And now we're just judging him on coaching ā how many games we're winning.
