Why is Malik Nabers being taken off the PUP list and what does it mean for training camp?
I'm here. Welcome to Breaking Big Blue. We're back, by the way. We're back for the grind. Training camp begins. Everybody get in here. Come on, come on, come on, come on. Breaking big blue times, Giants Nation show. I'm your host, Jordan Ronan. Bobby Skinner behind the scenes right now. We'll get to him in a few minutes. We have a couple items to clear out the deck before we start. The breaking news from tonight being Malik Nabors not on PUP. Doesn't necessarily mean he's going to practice right away. I'll get to that and give you the details of what I know on that specifically in a few minutes. But it is a good sign. I don't see how you view that as a negative. So we got the Malik neighbors. We'll talk a little bit about Cam Scataboo and his latest backflip, John Harbaugh and his speech, which, by the way, was what the start of the offseason program, which is March.
Yeah, back in March. Uh, and it's just a snippet, which, uh, that was, that's interesting. The response to that as well. A lot of, I guess there's just nothing else going on. So you got to discuss something. So it became a, it became a big topic and, uh, everyone critiquing whether that hit or not, uh, in regards to, uh, attracting the attention of players. So I want to start here with the neighbor stuff, right? I reported earlier today. Actually, poor little Brody Ronan ended up at the doctor in the hospital today, had a little fluid in the hip, so he was having a little trouble walking. So I was all over the place. I was supposed to be on TV, was going to talk about the neighbor's thing as well. I did it on Chris Carlin probably like 11 a.m.,
was going to do it again on NFL Live and then get to it tonight on the show, this show right here, and give you the details. So here's the deal. You put a player on Pup during training camp. He could come off any time. So the Giants really could have just put Malik Neighbors on. And the second they want to put him into practice, practice is considered anything you're doing with the coaches. Even if it's like running one route in individual drills, you have to be off Pup. Now, if you have to do it Like once you get to the season, it's different, right? Then you're out, I think it's four weeks minimum. Right. And most likely you have another two weeks to train at that point and get back. But that would be a problem.
So the Chinese could easily just put him on PUP to start training camp. So the fact that they're not is a good sign. It means they want him to do stuff early. Now, it doesn't mean he's going to practice and be a full participant in practice anytime soon. I'd actually be surprised about that. And by the way, yeah, Brody Ronan's fine, thankfully. You know, just a little minor thing. Hopefully not going to win. And we move on with that. So thanks for the people that just made some comments on the side. But Malik Neighbors also appears to be making progress. Now, here's something interesting that I heard about Malik Neighbors and I think is very key to what's going on here. is Malik Neighbors, when the summer comes, and anybody who's really rehabbing or whatever, you have the option to rehab however you want.
Now the team could say, we prefer you spend the summer and stay here locally. My understanding is Malik Neighbors was local in New Jersey, therefore getting to go to the facility and use the Giants' resources and people there to rehab and continue his rehab. And the fact that he stayed local and was in the building, I think is a big thing. Because then you have eyes on him, you know he's working, you know you have specifically can cater a program to what you think he needs, the team thinks he needs. Not that it gets relayed to somebody else, another physical therapist or trainer or whatever it is in another state. And then they could kind of... contort and change or alter the pro like there's all these things that could happen in that mix.
So to have him stay locally, I think was a big deal. And now the fact that, okay, he may not practice. We don't know what this actually means of how close he is to being full go.
