Why is Malik Nabers not starting training camp on PUP and what does it mean for Week 1?
So am I still waiting for this world to stop hating?
Can't find a good reason
Welcome to Giants Nation. I'm your host, Bobby Skinner, here with my co-host, the football girl. And we've got a jam-packed episode. We have our final mailbag until week one. That's a great feeling to just be able to say that training camp is next week. It's our pre-training camp mailbag. the first question we're going to hit is about year two expectations for Jackson dart. And I spent a lot of time on that one. Cause I was like, you know what? Time to stop being wishy-washy on what we want. Let's put this some real standards for what we want to see out of Jackson dart. And then the news that Malik neighbors is not going to start training camp on pop. We'll start there. Grump, uh, Malik neighbors is off pop or not starting on pop reported by Jordan Renan.
And you heard us talk about it on breaking big blue last night. Um, Thomas Fedoni, Sam Roberts, and then Roy Roberts and Harris were all on PUP. Roy Roberts and Harris would be a very end-of-the-season thing. Fedoni and Roberts were guys that were banged up in all their OTAs. Neighbors not being on there is genuinely shocking because even I was a little more optimistic than I think most people just because I was going off of the Giants' word of like, hey, they keep saying he's going to be ready for week one, so why would I not trust them? And you say, well, Andrew Thomas Lashner. I'm like, okay, that is fair. To be clear, this does not mean he's practicing week one. Or, sorry, day one of training camp.
But the fact that they feel good enough to be able to bring him along gradually, where it's not like, hey, spend the first two weeks on pub, which is actually standard for most of the guys coming off torn ACLs and stuff, to at least spend a week or two, I think is very optimistic news and kind of brightened my day up, Grump.
Yeah, I would I would put my happiness level at like a seven right now. And the reason it's not like a 10 is because we still got to see him go out there and practice. I've operated with this from the very beginning of I don't trust anything that the Giants organization says anymore. I'm only going to trust what I'm seeing. So it's always encouraging to hear things like we anticipate this, that and the other thing. He's on track for this, that and the other thing. I'm just going to sit and assume the worst and be happy when good news comes. And here I am happy that good news has come. Malik neighbors not starting on POP is either a strong sign of confidence or a strong sign of incompetence, I guess, is really what it is, because they're either setting themselves up for a situation that they should have done this and could have handled, you know, managing the roster a different way and save that roster spot.
Or everything is going according to plan. He should be ready to go by weeks one or two. But again, we got to see him practice, see how he goes, see how how he recovers from practicing is actually the thing. It's not that he goes out there and does stuff. It's what happens the next day. Does he go out there the next day? Does he go out there in two days? And how does he look when he goes back out there? But this is very, very good news. I will go from a 7 or an 8 to a 10 as soon as I see him practicing in a capacity that tells me he will play within the first four weeks, and I am set. That is more than I expected, and that is... It's insane. Malik Nabors being on the PUP or being off the PUP is a... measurable difference in the win-loss record, I think, for the Giants this year.
Oh, absolutely. He's very important just every week, but first two weeks, you've got some tough opponents. Cowboys might be a boat race. Our fastest boat race are out there for us. Now, like you said, this doesn't even guarantee he's ready for week one. Like you said, we do have to see him practice and what he looks like going back. Because even last year, this was the first time I actually remember something like this happening, was Andrew Thomas was activated from PUP on August 19th.
