Welcome back to the Green History Street Podcast. Paul Jameson down here. Beautiful sunny Florida. Where it is sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. And it is Florida. It's hot. We got alligators, snakes, all kind of stuff going on out here. In the wild, but I love it down here. So today we're going to talk about the top 10 reasons you must raise your prices immediately. This is part two, unintended part two. I did um last week I started this episode to be transparent in my intro. I got so fired up just introducing this topic that I didn't even get to my my main first point with the preliminaries of setting it up and everything. So today I'm actually going to stick to my notes and I'm going to actually go through my top 10 reasons why you must raise your prices immediately.
Paul Jamison 1:31
It is shocking how underpriced

Why does Paul say fuel costs are the #1 reason to raise your prices right now?

Paul Jamison 1:35
Lawn care and landscaping services are. How much will somebody pay for your services? Well you don't really know. Unless you're getting a whole lot of no's. If you're putting out quotes and they're saying, Ooh, that's more than I was thinking. Oh man, that was too much. And then you you give like ten or fifteen quotes and all of them tell you no, that's too high. Well, then you're like, okay, my prices are too high. But that doesn't happen. Your last fifteen quotes were not all nose. All right. More than likely they were yeses and you could have Charged even more and you would have still got the yes. We're gonna talk about all right. Let me get into my notes. Number one. These gas prices. So these are ten reasons why you gotta raise your prices.
Paul Jamison 2:24
On new new work, you go out and you quit a new new job today or this week or next week. We're gonna have to raise the prices.

How does inflation on equipment and supplies force a price increase?

Paul Jamison 2:32
Here's why. Number one. Fuel cost Or Eating profits. I mean, there's it's let's like a cookie, cookie monster, just eating the profits alive. It cost a lot to fill up the tank. A lot more than it did a year ago. And if you're not accounting for this in your pricing You're missing out. We gotta raise our prices because our prices To put fuel in the truck. Is skyrocketing. Number two. There's a word called inflation. All right. And The parts, right? Used to buy mower blades. Used to buy uh parts for your power equipment.

Why do zero‑margin situations make a price hike unavoidable?

Paul Jamison 3:18
All of that's going up. The price of lawnmowers? Pretty much are the you know, you got a little twenty one inch, twenty two inch lawnmower. Uh, there's been a little bit of technical advances over the years, but not much. Right? The blades still pretty much the same blades we had ten years ago. The spindle's still pretty much the same spindle we had ten years ago. The pull cords, you know, they haven't advanced too much. I mean the mowers The mower hasn't really changed. Your basic twenty one, twenty two inch mower, your basic thirty inch lawnmower? You know the one I'm talking about, that red one, right? You got you probably got one of them, right? It's the same thing it was several years ago. Yeah, a little upgrade here, a little upgrade there.
Paul Jamison 4:01
Pretty much the same thing. Your forty eight inch mower, your sixty inch mower. Some of y'all got them bigger ones. The motors haven't really changed that much. But you know what has changed?

What can you learn from the gutter‑cleaning story about underpricing?

Paul Jamison 4:15
Price of a new zero turn. Have you put new tires on your mowers lately? That might they've never gone up. Everything costs more. The mower cost more, the tires for the mower cost more, the blades for the mower cost more. Replacement cost. А higher than ever before. You gotta raise your prices. Number three. What's that, Mr. Producer? Okay. Okay, that's a good point. I didn't have that one on my list. Well maybe we'll have a bonus one for you here. So and these are just ten.
