Welcome back to the Green Industry Podcast. I'm Paul Jameson down here in beautiful sunny Florida. Today we're going to talk about getting new customers, the best ways to be marketing our businesses online and offline. So I'm going to actually share the top five ways we can market our business on the internet, on social media, and then the top five old school ways that actually still work to this day. So we're going to dive right into it. If you own a long care business, My friend Jonathan Petosnik, who's my mentor, he always talks about the two most important things are getting new customers and then getting the manpower, the employees, to serve those customers. So you're looking at getting new customers.
Paul Jamison 1:22
Then you need the help to serve those customers. And that's how you grow a business. It's it's pretty uh common sense. And maybe you're like, well, I don't want to build a big ten dollar or ten dollar, a big business Paul, ten dollars a year now. We're gonna we're gonna make a dollar every once a month, we'll make a dollar. Um Uh so anyway, ten I don't want to build a big ten million dollar a year business if that's your thought. You know, I guess one a smaller little business. Well, we still need to be getting new better customers until we have just the absolute perfect, perfect, perfect customers and got rid of the bad ones. So you we always gotta be marketing, no matter if you want a smaller business or a bigger business, marketing is essential.
Paul Jamison 2:02
So let's dive into what's working and what's not. Because this is this is ever-changing uh stuff here. And I don't know why you wouldn't want a big business. I mean, or you know, big profit. Like I'm trying to make as much money as possible. So I need to continuously be marketing so I attract the best customers. So let's dive right into it. with um offline we're gonna go old school first so the probably most tried and true way to market a lawn care business is door hangers these are um exactly what they sound like they they there's a little circle in the middle of them so they go right around a door like a doorknob and they're fantastic because at some point More than likely the homeowner is going to want to take it off their door and throw it away.
Paul Jamison 2:46
However, when they take it off, now you've just marketed to them. Now

Why are door‑hangers still an effective offline tactic?

Paul Jamison 2:51
They they're looking at your door hanger and if that copy, which copy is like a fancy word for like the the um the words on the door hanger, if the copy is good. You should, you know, have a touch. And the rule of seven that they came up with back in the um, I believe it was the nineteen twenties for movie theaters. They're like, we have to we have to have somebody hear about our new movie seven times before they'll actually go out on Friday night and pay the money to go to the theater and watch the movie. We need seven touch points. And so in marketing. That's always kind of been the case. It's just with social media and everything now. The, you know, my my hypothesis is you need more than seven, but a door hanger, that's a touch.
Paul Jamison 3:39
That's that's somebody seeing the name of your business, and that's that's a good touch point. Number two way to market your business offline, and again, the the door hangers are like You talk to any of these big companies that that are like crushing it, they value door hangers. It works. They still they they were doing it and they're still doing it today. All right. And I've I've accumulated more networking and more friendships over the years and gotten to meet more uh folks who work at some of these larger companies. And it's crazy of how they just they they do what works.
