Chapter 2: What lessons did the hosts learn from recent events?
Not too bad. How are you, Rick?
Well, you guys are taking your positivity pills. I've been listening every morning. What a week, eh, buddy?
We just call it like we see it, Rick.
Chapter 3: What insights were shared during Ask Us Anything Friday?
When things aren't good, we say they're not good. And when we see and hear a lot of the things that we've been talking about ourselves on the show for the last few years and they are acknowledged, then we're like, thank you. What do you think about the, what do you think about the hirings and everything we've heard in the, uh, Sadeen and RJ era?
Great. You know, every time I hear Ryan Johnson talk, I hear clarity. I hear a plan. I see a vision. I like, I went, when Alvin did interviews, I didn't even want to listen. Like I, it was really tough, but when Ryan talks, uh, you get the sense that there's a plan. You get the sense this isn't a fly-by-night operation, same as the Sedin twins. Everything is really off to a good start.
Like, I mean, these guys are saying all the right things, but I also believe they practice what they preach. And you saw the Sedin twins this week and Ryan at the Children's Hospital. You know, there's hockey fans that probably think that doesn't matter, but it does matter, you know. I drive by the children's hospital every day to work, and there's nothing worse than a sick kid in the world.
Chapter 4: How are the Sedins influencing the Canucks' management?
The kid shouldn't be sick. They should be out healthy and playing. And you know what? That stuff matters. Brian Burke cared. You know, Brian Burke was the first GM, and, you know, Arthur Griffiths and his family and Pac Quinn, they cared about the community. These guys are going to care about the community, and these guys are going to care about
about the fans, I just get the feeling, all the chaos that we've seen the last two years, I think the end to the chaos is here. I don't think these guys, the Twins and Ryan, are going to let the chaos return. I just, you know, Patterson Miller, right? And then he was leaving. All that stuff, I think they're going to put good people in place that to give it a good run to turn the ship around.
And just like you two, Donnie and I, you know, we're seeing a lot of positives, but you got to roll up your sleeves. That's what one thing these guys are going to do. They're going to roll up their sleeves and they're going to get the work done. And there's not going to be any BS and there's not going to be any soap opera drama and chaos that you've seen in the last two years.
It's off to a great start, but first trade, first signing, first draft pick, still to come, right? They're going to make mistakes. They're going to make mistakes.
But the one thing about them, though, the Sedins is, and they've said it a few times, like, we're used to getting criticized. I'm sorry. Whose entire career, and it really doesn't bother us anymore. And I think they're going to try and send that message to the whole organization, including the players, and be like, hey, guys...
You work in a market where there are going to be opinions, unfair opinions at times, craziness. You're going to read things on social media that you're like, that is really hurtful and that is unfair to say. And you can either fight that and say, this is so unfair, or you can just let it go. Because it's part of the reality of being in the market.
And let me say something else. For 20 years in this market, win or lose, they came out to the media every game and talked, the Twins. You look at the way Miller left, Hughes left, and you look at the way those guys left and some of the terse 90-second, I don't even want to be here, talk to you guys, Pedersen 90 seconds, I don't want to talk to you guys. That's going to end.
Whether the Twins got ā can you ever say they had a terse 60-second uh, post dressing room interview.
I remember when they were short with the media, like they would, you know, they wouldn't want to have a long answer.

Chapter 5: What are the implications of the Canucks' recent hirings?
Is that coach going to be Manny Malhotra?
I want to say one thing first, that this coaching changes every year has got to stop. Canucks are looking at their fifth coach in five years. Hoaglander is looking at his fifth coach in the last seven years. There is a different message every year for that kid. No wonder he can't string back-to-back good years.
And I'm not even counting the two or three different coaches Hoaglander had in Abbotsford. They need to hire a coaching staff that lasts more than 24 months. Five coaches in five years does not help you land free agents on July 1st. I talked with a big-name agent this week, and he told me very simply, Vancouver's got a long way to go. to become a destination for free agents again.
Right now, his clients are not telling him, get me to Vancouver. Stability helps. Coaching changes every year is not stability. It hurts your franchise in so many ways. They've got to pick a coach who's going to be here for more than one to two years. That's one. Second, Manny Malhotra, obviously they're talking to him. It makes so much sense. It just makes so much sense.
But there's a negotiation to do as well. Manny's got an agent. All coaches and GMs now have agents. That wasn't the case years ago. So we're now dealing with a middleman between the team and the coach or the GM. That wasn't the case many years ago. The Canucks didn't offer much for their GM job. We know that. But if they lowball Malhotra, that could cause problems.
This owner's got to pay a lot of people next year, Jason, not to work for him. But Malhotra's got leverage. He doesn't have to take a bad deal. He's got one year left in Abbotsford. He can honour that, then become a free agent, a UFA essentially, in 12 months. Then he can pick and choose the best options.
They've got to first find out if they can strike a deal in Vancouver with Malhotra before they start talking to other people.
Okay, Caleb Malhotra. It seems like the Canucks are slated to name Manny the head coach and then draft Caleb Malhotra. And the people that text in and say, like, don't draft Caleb Malhotra at number three. Stop talking about him at number three. I am only repeating what...
I've heard from the likes of you and from others around the league that seem to suggest that the Canucks really like Caleb Malhotra and could see him as one of the key building blocks of this rebuild. The catch is that his dad might also be the head coach. So what are you hearing on this front?
