Chapter 1: What are the key themes of turning 30 discussed in this episode?
A listener production. This is Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki. And if you're easily offended, then this might not be for you. Fuck, I kept getting this thing saying Lizzo and Jacob Elordi hooked up and I believed it for like literally four days.
But if you look at the thing, it says rage bait news.
I was like, you'll never believe it. Lizzo and Jacob Elordi hooked up.
Cheers, babes. I'm going to happy hour with Lucy and Nikki, the real life shit you only discuss over a drink. But before we start, a little disclaimer.
So today we are here for my birthday. It's your birthday, Lucy Jackson. Lisa, it's your birthday. Happy birthday, Lucy.
Lisa, it's your birthday.
It's my birthday.
You were a bit of a Lisa Simpson with the sax, weren't you?
Like the saxophone, babe. Fucking I do, my girl. I'll be honest with you, I was never really that good at playing the saxophone.

Chapter 2: How does Lucy plan to change her birthday narrative?
Yeah, piano was the one extracurricular activity that I didn't want to do. Yeah. Like, I was like, I don't want to do this. And my mum really pushed me into it. And then, this is actually a weird story. You know when you're a kid and you remember getting in trouble? Yes. Like, I remember one time, I can't remember exactly what happened, but I was in my piano exam. Yeah.
Yes, I used to do piano exams. Yeah. Which is like... Crazy. Like competitive piano playing, like so weird and honestly, really fucking boring.
Respectfully. But amazing, really.
I remember like so distinctly that for some reason, my piano teacher, like I must have said something outlandish, which I mean... I had undiagnosed ADHD. So like it was bound to happen at some point. And she got really, really angry at me. And I remember sitting outside her house. I remember like I can exactly remember where her house is in Mission Beach and everything.
And I remember sitting outside her house just waiting for my mom to come and pick me up like, hurry up, mom. Anyway, mom got there and I just like said to my mom, I was like, I'm not doing piano anymore.
like point blank like you can keep trying to make me do piano I'll play any other instrument but I'm not playing piano anymore yeah I can't remember what she did she got like I like embarrassed her or something in front of the piano examiner or something because I'd like forgotten it was really weird isn't that how you remember those things yeah I remember that with one of my dancing coaches she was I reckon she would make me like like there was a phase where I hated going just because she would like bully you kind of
This is Irish dancing, by the way, guys.
Yeah, it's pretty heavy duty shit, mate. Yeah, I don't know. It just was like a weird yucky vibe. And we all got like over it. We were kind of like, we don't want to do this anymore. Like all me and the girls.
I couldn't be working children's things.

Chapter 3: What lessons have Lucy and Nikki learned about relationships in their 30s?
True.
But anyway, we're sitting here. It's Lucy's birthday. We've got Britney Spears costumes on because she is the Britney Spears of our generation. She danced with fucking knives once and we never heard the end of it.
The Britney Spears of our generation is iconic and I love it. But listen, I'll be honest with you guys. I was meant to be wearing... Yeah, let's tell the backstory. slave for you costume and it didn't arrive. So today I've had to go, oops, I did it again. And I'm not as comfortable. It just got here maybe half an hour ago.
So this is brand new information.
This is like so similar to the stinger suit I used to wear. It was even red. Well, damn girl, where were you going swimming? South Mission Beach.
If you were swimming around a Mission Beach in that, you're a star, baby.
No, honestly, it was very, obviously not shiny, but it was very similar to this.
Well, babe, you're pulling it off. Thank you. You're looking good and the content is still going to look amazing. I am, oops, I did it again, Brittany.
No, I am. Oh, who am I? Your baby one more time.

Chapter 4: How do Lucy and Nikki view the pressure of societal timelines in their 30s?
I adore you so much. Keep bringing the vibes, babe. I love you from the deepest corner of my heart. Happy birthday, babe. Love you. Lovely. Mwah.
Chapter 5: What advice do they give about dealing with failure?
Big love. Oh, that didn't sound anything like Leisha. I think you've got a voice disorder on that or something.
I was like, who's this weird woman? Dark Angel?
Thank you, guys. Oh, bless. Okay. 30 things we've learned in our 30s to homage to another year of getting older. In our 30s? In our 30s. I would honestly say I've actually got a great analogy. What? So maybe this can start. I want to try and make sure it's spun to not be negative. But I was talking to someone recently and we're having a really like open conversation about how...
like what it feels like being in your 30s. And I kind of just thought it was me. And we were kind of like having a bit of a breakdown of like, because like this person that I was talking to is also single. And I was like, you know, I think your 20s is the decade for like a lot of like new experiences in like, you know, you go to a new pub and you're like, whoa. Everything's so shiny. Yes. Yeah.
Chapter 6: How do they suggest handling friendships and group dynamics in adulthood?
You go overseas. Yeah, babe.
And it's like, that's so amazing. Oh, God, yeah.
Yeah. And by the time you get to your 30s, you've kind of like experienced a lot of that kind of stuff already in your 20s. And unless you start having those like, I guess I would call them like key milestones that kind of keep your life like feeling like your purpose is like moving forward in momentum. So say, for example, it might be like, get married, buy a house, have a baby.
And it kind of like, it's those things that kind of makes... just the mundane life of like working every day, I still keep moving forward. But when you're like me and you don't have those, well, I could buy a house, which I've done, some of those things, you get a little bit like, what do I do today? And it's kind of like Jim and I were having this conversation.
He was like, he's like a few of my friends, they're in their mid-30s, they've all got kids and he's like, When you have that kind of setup, sometimes it's just like, oh, I've just got to go home and look after the kids. And like whilst it may get not mundane, it's like your decisions just made for you kind of thing.
Whereas like when you're kind of in this position like me, it's like the shine of your 20s has worn off a little bit. But then you're like... You don't like, I don't have to do anything or I can do whatever I want. That's quite powerful really, isn't it? And exciting to a sense. It is, but it does get a bit like fatiguing.
Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Do you feel like sometimes like if you feel like you don't want to just do nothing, you feel like you have to be doing something? Like if you're like, oh, I just want to go home and chill, but then you're like, oh, may as well go out or like, is that what you're trying to say? Kind of.
It's like, you know, a good example would be, well, because I often feel like when you have time off, I have to have time off so that our holidays are on, which isn't actually the case. But I like kind of sometimes like I'm like, well, it makes sense rather than if I have time off and you have time off, then we've got to do like 40 podcasts in a week kind of thing.
So I kind of mirror your time off. But like often, I don't really have anywhere I want to go or anyone I want to go with.

Chapter 7: What insights do they share about self-identity and personal growth?
And I'm kind of like, it's kind of like this thing of like,
You've got to be the only girl in the world who hates a holiday, surely.
No, but like it's kind of like this sense of like ā I don't really have to do anything at any time with anyone. Whereas like when you have... You're like a free agent. Like when you're organizing your wedding, you've got something that you're working towards. When you're having a baby, you've got your purpose of going home and looking after your kids. Well, I guess, yeah.
It's like when you're in your... And it's not a bad thing. There's a lot of freedom involved with it and it is a great thing. But it's kind of like... Anyway, we were having this conversation. I was having this conversation with a friend the other day. And he was like, me and the boys call it, it's like when the sun has set. So it's like, you know that time of day?
And I was like, holy fuck, that really shook me to my core. And I want to like try and change that. But you know like⦠When we're like of an afternoon, Nick, especially you and I, if we're in Bali and it's like four, five o'clock and like it's that beautiful golden hour and like everything is just like, oh, the world is our oyster. This is just so exciting. I'm like so razzed up.

Chapter 8: Why is it important to be open to different types of relationships?
And then the sun sets and it's like you're still having fun. Yeah. But it's just not quite as shiny.
Yeah, I get that. Or like maybe... Or maybe you're like, oh, now I'm just sort of at... A dark place in my togs. Probably kind of feel like having a shower.
Kind of have to go home, get ready.
I know what you mean. It takes the riz away.
It kind of takes that riz away. And when he said that analogy to me, I was like, holy fuck. That's kind of like... Anyway, my goal is to try and make my 30s not feel like that anymore. The sun has set.
Yeah, I get that. That's us at rituals every time the sun literally sets and we're like...
I know. And don't you just wish it could stay in that like five till six hour forever?
Oh, big time. That's the best golden hour, baby.
And it's too quick. Do you feel like that was your 20s? I had, I loved my 20s. I felt like in my 20s, I never, like I didn't love my 20s. Like I love my life on paper now way more. I've like way more financial freedom. I still have the same amazing friends I even had in my 20s and even more amazing new ones. So I'm not like at a shortage of like beautiful relationships and stuff.
