Hot and Unbothered

The Year You Stop Quitting on Yourself: Commitment, Consistency & Self-Trust

09 Jan 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What commitment issues do many people face today?

0.031 - 15.357 Brianna Gomez

I need you to answer this question for me. When was the last time you fully committed to something? And I don't mean you just thought of the goal. I don't mean you just started it, stuck to it for a while, and then it kind of just fell off on its own.

0

15.337 - 38.02 Brianna Gomez

I mean, when was the last time you fully were able to devote yourself to completing a task, to fulfilling a goal, and seeing it through until the very end? I know for a lot of you, you may be struggling to think of something. Or you may be thinking, wow, I don't think I've done that in a very long time. And it's not your fault.

0

38.36 - 61.088 Brianna Gomez

It has everything to do with the way that our brains are now rewired to think and execute goals and to start them and to receive that short form gratification and then to just forget about it or then to just give up. So if you want to learn how to actually start committing to your goals, to level up your life and become the hottest, highest and healthiest version of yourself this year,

192.538 - 209.587 Brianna Gomez

If it's your first time here, buckle up and go ahead and just hit that follow button right now on the podcast. If you want to say, okay, like I am in. In fact, before you even get to the end of this episode, We need to practice committing. We need to practice promising and devoting ourselves to something.

0

209.968 - 232.476 Brianna Gomez

Maybe if we don't even know exactly what each day is going to look like, we need to say, I am the kind of person that commits. And we will get into all that. But before we do, go ahead and just comment. I'm in. Just the words on this episode, I am in, or I am committing this year. And you can put even if you want what you're committing to, or if you don't even know yet, just comment, I'm in.

0

232.917 - 247.624 Brianna Gomez

If you are feeling hyped up, if you're feeling amped up, but you're saying, I'm not just getting excited about it this time just to get excited and let it fall off. Once the excitement ends and the boredom sets in, no. We are going to be the kind of people who commit right now. So go ahead.

0

Chapter 4: How do societal pressures affect our ability to commit?

247.685 - 259.572 Brianna Gomez

If you want to lock in, if you want to be held accountable, if you want to say, I am the kind of person who commits, comment right now. Just two words. I'm in. And I am in with you guys. So

0

259.552 - 286.128 Brianna Gomez

we're gonna dive in today i asked you guys what your word is for this year on one of my instagram stories and i did this for 2025 you know what was your word for 2025 some people had some hard ones like emotion or hurt or change and some people had some good ones i think mine was faith people had devotion people had growth people had glowing They had so many different words.

0

286.548 - 310.966 Brianna Gomez

And then I liked that idea so much. I was like, okay, well now what is the word that you want to take with you into 2026? And the good news is 2026 just started. So you get to decide what you want your word of focus to be. So also everyone take a second and just think to yourself, write it down in your notes, comment it, journal. What is your word for 2026 that you want to focus on?

0

311.026 - 325.325 Brianna Gomez

And this is the first challenge actually of this episode because a lot of us have trouble committing. And I'm going to get into this, but there is something about our generation where we cannot commit to save our lives.

0

Chapter 5: What role does accountability play in maintaining commitments?

325.485 - 340.306 Brianna Gomez

Look at dating culture right now. Do you see the decrease in committed relationships or marriages in our age group compared to our parents' age group, right? I'm in my 20s. I feel like a lot of our parents, when they were in their 20s, they were like married and settling down with a house and kids.

0

340.366 - 357.092 Brianna Gomez

But no, all of us are just kind of floundering about so many people who haven't even found themselves yet, haven't found their relationships, haven't found their friendships, haven't found their faith, their path, which is totally normal and totally okay. But what do you think that has to say about us and the circumstances that we live in?

0

357.072 - 381.974 Brianna Gomez

and the kind of thoughts and media that we are taking in every single day. We are so hyper fixated on how quickly things change, micro trends, little series that don't last, 75 hard challenges, things that are specifically designed to give us short-term gratification, short-term fulfillment, quick results, quick outcomes.

0

382.395 - 403.249 Brianna Gomez

But the thing is that if a result doesn't take long to get and to commit to, It doesn't last very long either. And I feel like we are so good at just starting things immediately. We make our vision boards, we start the challenges, but we don't stick to them. Even if you do see the challenge or the goal all the way through, well, what happens after that?

0

403.59 - 408.038 Brianna Gomez

You just go back to your normal way of living that you were before and then it was all for nothing.

Chapter 6: How can I create non-negotiable standards for myself?

408.018 - 431.444 Brianna Gomez

You have to be willing to make a full identity shift instead of just trying to cling to these short-term rewards that feel good in the moment and that they give you satisfaction in the moment. But what happens after that? We struggle to commit in our relationships, in our friendships, with our job, career paths, what we want to study in school. It is constantly changing.

0

431.784 - 442.699 Brianna Gomez

It is so hard to stick to one thing because we almost have an overload of options also. And we take in so much information in one day. How are we supposed to commit?

0

442.679 - 464.738 Brianna Gomez

to anything we see so many options that living life is almost like we're constantly online shopping right we're like well i could do this with my life i could do this my future husband can look like this or i could date this guy right now or my future house could look like this i could wear this today or i could order a whole new wardrobe and change my style instantly there's so many options there's so much change all this to say

0

464.718 - 488.989 Brianna Gomez

We struggle being committal people in this society. There are so many reasons that can potentially play into that. And so my challenge for you is to just pick one word. When I ask you what you want your word to be in 2026, for a lot of us, so many different words may come flooding in. And that's what happens to me. I'm like, I want to say faith. I want to say consistency.

0

Chapter 7: What strategies can help me stay consistent when motivation fades?

489.049 - 505.143 Brianna Gomez

I want to say love. I want to say peace. I want to say slow. I want to say so many different things. Too bad. I'm not giving you the option. You get one word. That's not to say that your word is not going to change. That's not to say that you aren't allowed to add other words as the year unfolds.

0

505.444 - 533.148 Brianna Gomez

But the reason why I say this is because, yes, we don't want to restrict ourselves when it comes to our identity, but at the same time, you also want to be a person who can be decisive. We deal with a decision fatigue on an everyday basis where we can't even decide things for ourselves. We can't even decide what we want to do when we wake up, so we just reach for our phone.

0

533.548 - 542.848 Brianna Gomez

And then you're scrolling for so long that you get anxious trying to even decide what you're going to do when you put down your phone. It's getting pretty bad. It's getting pretty bad, guys.

0

Chapter 8: How can I build self-trust to support my commitments?

543.209 - 567.516 Brianna Gomez

So today we are going to dive into how to commit. Because I was sitting and I was thinking, Bri, what is your word for 2026? And the one that just kept popping into my head over and over was commitment. Not just even for myself, but for us as a world right now. I feel like we struggle to just come together and commit to something. And so that's what my word is. It's commitment.

0

567.536 - 589.596 Brianna Gomez

And I was kind of sitting there thinking, I was like, well, I feel like I'm a high commitment person. Meaning my friends have even always told me from five years ago in high school, I wasn't in high school five years ago. Oh my gosh, guys, I feel so old right now. I was not in high school five years ago. Wait, was I? How old am I?

0

589.795 - 613.945 Brianna Gomez

Okay, I'm going through a quarter-life crisis, apparently, and I'm not even at my quarter-life mark yet. However old I am, I don't even know anymore. When I was in high school, I remember a specific moment. My friends told me, I feel like you just don't quit things. And it was kind of like a nice thing, but then it was kind of like, oh, am I not quitting things that I should?

0

614.146 - 638.303 Brianna Gomez

But regardless, it became apparent to me that I am a high commitment person, meaning when it comes to relationships, when it came to jobs and career paths, when it came to different endeavors like my social media, when it came to sticking to certain classes in school, I often would finish what I started only when, though, it it was in a place where I was being held accountable.

0

638.644 - 652.58 Brianna Gomez

For example, with relationships, you're held accountable in that. It's a two-way street. In your job, well, I have to show up to my job every single day and I'm signed on to that. I'm enrolled in their payroll. I have to show up for that every single day or any time.

652.96 - 678.477 Brianna Gomez

And I stick to things, even when they get hard, even when different factors of life are shifting, I would stick to them no matter what. However, I tend to notice that yes, I will stick to those things when there's a sense of accountability and I will show up and I will oftentimes see them through. However, when it comes to something that is for myself and for only me when no one else is watching,

678.457 - 698.096 Brianna Gomez

I don't think I see things through as much if I tell myself, okay, I'm going to check off everything on my planner every single day. I don't always do that successfully. Or when I say, okay, I'm going to start this series on my TikTok, Glow Miss. I didn't finish that. I did not see that through. I made maybe three Glow Miss vlogs.

698.196 - 717.102 Brianna Gomez

And of course life happens, but honestly, like it wasn't all life. I also just got lazy. And I think I commit to these things because the idea and the moment sounds so exciting. But if there's not some external force that is making me stick to them, I will not always commit. I will not always see it through.

717.162 - 736.29 Brianna Gomez

And I hate to admit it, but even with certain things like reading your Bible every night, of course, I want to improve my faith and my relationship with God as much as possible. But if I'm really tired and I'm like, okay, well, no one's watching. No one except for God is going to know if I fall asleep without reading my Bible tonight, if I'm just so tired, right?
