Hello, and welcome to an incredibly special episode of House of R. I'm Joanna Robinson. And joining me today, no one can stand against her blindingly scrumptious luminescence. It's Mallory Rubin. Oh, most glamorous yet tasteful one. My glorificus Joanna Robinson. We're just each other's minions today, is what it sounds like. As we discuss the back half of Buffy season five, right after this.
Can you believe it? The day is here. Unbelievable. It is Buffy season five, part two. This is it. We're apexing here. Uh I I cannot I cannot believe we're here. This is an incredible time to to be alive. Quick programming reminders. Uh in addition to wrapping up this Buffy coverage, we of course doing our ongoing lanterns coverage. So you can look for those if we get our ducks in a row every week on Mondays is w is the plan.
Yes.
Next week is a very, very special week. It is Mallorubin's birthday. For a minute, I was like, you're like, what are you talking about? You're like, what are you talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Debilitating migraine, as you know, and Carlos knows, and Jacob knows, and Scott knows, and now everyone knows. But I told you, like the onion that flowers with the bronze that Spike so loves to consume. That is how I will I think that will be my uh experience, my transformation while potting about this uh wonderful half season of TV with you. Um, but not knowing about my own birthday, not an encouraging start. We're gonna celebrate your birthday next week. With what you have branded as Mallory Rubin's pivot to horror.
That's right. You're turning a certain age. Turning forty, the big four-o. And you've decided I'm an adult now, I shall brave horror, right? I uh, you know, I feel like I am just missing out on a few big things recently that everybody has gotten to share together. And so I just wanted to dip my toe. I'm not gonna force myself to explore certain horror films that I know are just not for me. Like I'm gonna ease in. I'm gonna do it in a way that makes sense. You've already watched a couple. But because I really wanna see Resident Evil, yes. It made both of our fall height meters. We talked about it. I wanna I wanna pot about it. I wanna see it with you. I wanna watch it from probably your lap. Okay. We haven't officially got your heads out of the wing.
Yes are tucked into my neck. We will be seeing it together, so I think that's probably how it's gonna go. Yeah. Uh and in order to a box of chicken tenders and watermelon watermelon uh sour patch kids clutched in your hand. I don't know if it'll be no emotional support tendies? Well, isn't it a movie that I'm gonna wanna like eat during I don't know. I don't know. That said, I do love attendee at the theater, as you know. But in order to get ready for Resident Evil, because it's such a big moment. I thought okay. Let me some immersion therapy. Like let's prep, you know? And so I I kinda feel like Buffy might have loosened the jar for you a little bit. A lot of the stuff we've done recently, I feel like, you know, there's uh I can't remember any of them now.
There's you know, and also this and but all but you know, Buffy's definitely been a big thing. Buffy is comedy horror, and there is some horror stuff, yeah. I mean Stranger Things, which is literally made for children. And yet multiple times while we did Stranger Things, we were like, was this too scary for you? There have been a lot of things over the last few years where I thought, you know what? That wasn't too scary for me actually. I could watch this show for children and I was okay. So as you know, I love shows for children. That's uh that's one of those bracket complimentary things as the meme goes. So I decided, because Resident Evil is directed by, of course, Crager, okay, well let me watch Weapons, which I hadn't seen.
He directed, uh uh the an adored film. So I did that. If you want my instant reaction, we'll talk, we'll share all the thoughts on the actual podcast next week. But I've decided to chronicle my journey on Instagram as well from underneath a blanket. Yeah. A cocoon of um a comforting cocoon.
