What does “play is an on‑ramp, not a reward” mean for our everyday lives?

Before we dive into this week's episode, I'm wondering how's parenting going for you at the moment? Do you feel like you've got it all handled? Or do you find yourself yelling at the smallest things or just feeling overwhelmed most of the time? If you're looking for some extra support, my eight-week parenting immersion is kicking off soon. It starts on October 19th. And over the eight weeks, we work through themes like trust, imprints, feelings, anger, play, boundaries, self-care, healing, repair, and we look at the patterns you picked up long before you became a parent and how they're actually showing up in your parenting right now. You'll walk away with real tools for the tricky moments, ways to build genuine cooperation with your kids, and a much better understanding of your own reactions.

So you can respond instead of react even on the hard days. This course is all online, there's recordings available, so if you can't join live, you can always catch up. There's workbooks, relaxations and the support of community. This is the only round I'm running this year, so if you'd like to join the wait list or sign up now, go and visit laelstone.com.au forward slash immersions. Okay, now on to this week's episode. Ah the human experience. With our flaws, our passions, our triggers, our inspirations and our imprints. If we could see behind everyone's story, then perhaps what we would have is deep compassion. In this podcast, I get the chance to explore these stories from some truly fascinating people in some honest and heartwarming conversations.

And best of all, I get to share these discussions with you. I'm Leil Stone and this is Humans Being. Welcome to Humans Being. I'm Label Stone. And my humanness for this week is all around Permission to change your mind. So what I've really been musing about this week is how rigid actually I used to be in my thinking many years ago. I mean, there's a lot that's coming out as I'm getting older and I'm doing this podcast because I'm realizing as I look back on the younger versions of me how much actually I am shifting and changing as I get older in life. And I realise how fixed and rigid I used to be around what I believed. And there was a clear right and wrong around things. And I was pretty good at telling people exactly what I thought about how things should be.
Lael Stone 2:32
I could have a very passionate argument about anything. And I realized too, actually, how judgmental I was when I was really fixed in this way of thinking that this was the right way. And yet, having worked with, I don't know, thousands of humans over the last 20 plus years, what I've become to sit in is a place of really no right or Wrong. And I know that can feel controversial when we say that because there are a lot of painful and bad things that happen in the world. But I am also really seeing that we stand in certain places in our lives because of the way we've been raised, our upbringings, what we're exposed to. And sometimes we can have a very, very, let's just say, small lens on what we think the world should be.
Lael Stone 3:17
Yeah. That's what I've begun to realize in listening to people's stories is there is space for many different places and opinions. And one of the most powerful things we can do is be curious about other people, is not sit in that really fixed, this is the way it is. So things that I used to be so like, this is the right way to do this, or this is the right way to raise your kids, all those kind of things. I have softened a lot of over the years. I have managed to to I guess sit down a bit and be curious and and try and stand in other p people's shoes just to see where they're coming from and and gain a greater understanding. And I must say that I feel like it's making me a better human, but it's also broadening my awareness around the world.
Lael Stone 4:03
So my invitation to you as you're listening to this is where are you sitting on being right and wrong? Where do you sit on that? that reflection of where you have shifted and changed your mind and being more open and curious.
