Ireland go to Eden Park to face the All Blacks, a venue where New Zealand have not lost in 52 matches dating all the way back to 1994, one of the longest standing records in sport.

Now, while this is ostensibly a rugby podcast, and it will be predominantly about the oval ball, we couldn't let Joe have all the fun over in New York. So I have enlisted my two comrades, Ronan Mullen, Colin Daugherty, to come into the studio for a little amuse-bouche. If Joe is serving up the main platter, the main smorgasbord of World Cup talking points later on in the feed, this will just be a little taste for people, lads. You know, a France-Spain, we were talking about it yesterday, and I think we were probably upselling it because we were maybe worried we might not get the blockbuster semifinal pairings that we had hoped for. But Argentina 2, England 1. What a game.
Yeah, I was saying yesterday, I was happy to conclude somewhat, maybe during the Spain-France game, that this is going to be more of a serene, I think symphonic is how I describe the Spain performance. You know, we just have to like... appreciate, be savants of the game and just be like, this is, we're watching mastery here. But then I wanted a bit of chaos last night and I got chaos and it all, I know people are quibbling about the quality of the first half. As a pure football spectacle, maybe not great. Yeah. But I did enjoy like the constant tetchiness that like dictated the whole thing.
Two Ulster football fans, unsurprisingly, were riveted by the first half last night. A purist, a Gaelic football purist from Dublin, which is what I am, 19 fouls and three shots didn't quite have me on the edge of my seat.
You both used the word pure. What is a pure football contest? Contests, like you just use the word, you've almost got the right answer there. For me, like football in its purity and its wholesome purity is everything and it's anything that keeps you engaged. It doesn't have to be nice passes, clean, crisp moves. It doesn't have to be a team in control or a chess match that people talk about. It can just be anything that gets you off the edge of your seat that makes you just go, ha ha ha.
