What is the power of storytelling for business leaders?
Okay. You're listening to Industry Iowa, presented by CIRIS, the Center for Industrial Research and Service. Here's your host. Steven Wilson.
Good to have you with us today, Teege. I really appreciate you taking time.
It's a joy to join you. I'm uh I'm excited to talk about storytelling and Filmmaking in Iowa and just uh business in Iowa. Matter of fact, I have a an interesting conversation from lunch that um yeah, just speaks to the power of storytelling in in business.
Well, I think that's those are all fantastic uh t topics there. So uh so yes, uh Teege and I were we're chatting here just a little bit, but Teaj Schaufer and he is the the founder and executive producer, right? Is that uh what it is for Fascination uh Films and uh Teach I appreciate you being on Industry Iowa and I think what you have to say is is really going to uh not only be entertaining uh but beneficial as well to uh industries here in uh in Iowa and uh and beyond. So so what is it we're gonna talk about today?
Well, I don't know. You tell me. Uh we I'll I'll follow your lead. But what I'm passionate about um is is the power of story and the power of our individual stories. And so I think that's a really big deal. Um I think that as we um wanna lead well in our businesses, it there's uh a massive overlap with how we live our lives. lives and our businesses have a huge impact on our entire lives. And so I think there's a lot to be said for for all of that. And I'm passionate about legacy and I think a lot of us create legacy through a portion of our legacy is created through our work. And so I think there's a lot to be said for that. But I think people often might ask a question of someone like me, like Uh How can I s how could how could legacy or living from a place of legacy or how could story and the power of our story and I think these things can be interchangeable?
How could that help solve the most pressing problems in my business? Like how could story help solve problems like attracting the right talent? Or how could story help uh solve problems like Um developing a new business pipeline or how could um story help solve uh everyday operational problems or culture problems and I think story is very often the answer to those problems. It's just how we understand and use story.
Let's get into those three but before tell us what you do. Tell us what Fascination Films is is all about.
Yes, sure sure. So so Fascination Film Studio is a documentary production studio here in Iowa. I live in Marion, Iowa, so Cedar Rapids area, eastern Iowa. We work all over the United States, but as much as I can, I love working in Iowa. I'm an Iowan on purpose. I'm an Iowan by birth. I was born in West Des Moines, Iowa in Valley Junction. Uh grew up in Iowa, went to college at Waldorf College in Forest City. City, Iowa, and um then um departed to uh parts unknown. I got to live in England for a short time, wrapped up college, reportioned, didn't o overseas abroad, study abroad thing in Oxford. And then when I came back to the US, I Um Uh, you know, found myself working in the radio business in Missouri. That was great.
My wife and I sold our house and everything we owned. We traveled full time and executed events all over the United States. We worked in forty eight states and um then I worked for the Department of Homeland Security. We lived in Washington, we lived all over the place. Um And then I found myself in a role where I could live wherever I want. And if I can live wherever I want. I choose Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Like I've seen all of America. It's all great. Love it. Love visiting those places. But I love Iowa. So uh we came back here to raise our family and we're just so glad we did.
So you make uh again, documentaries and uh I know you're you're in the midst of some of those matter of fact, just earlier today Teach was was doing a shoot. Right. So and I know that you have a recent one as well where you're you're hanging off uh A combine? Is that the case?
Yeah, yeah. So that is an interesting thing. So yeah, I I'm a uh Fascination Film Studio is a uh heritage and legacy documentary production studio, which means
