Hello and welcome to Inside Content. In this conversation, we unpack what microdramas really are and why Candace and Calvin believe the next evolution of vertical storytelling needs to be quality driven, not volume driven. We also explore how they're approaching monetization, why they're experimenting with unscripted formats, and their perspective on how AI may support micro drama production.

Hi Candice. Hi Calvin. Welcome to Inside Content. How are you? Great. Thank you for having us. I'm all good, thank you. I'm very, very excited to speak to you today about microdramas and in particular about your platform, Share A T V. So I'll start with an easy question. Can you tell me a bit more about Share A T V and about your respective roles in the organization?
Absolutely. Um, so I'm one of the co founders. I'm also an executive producer and I'm an actor. Um In Shara, I oversee development and creative strategy, casting and partnerships. Um Sarah TV is a female founded vertical streaming platform and we focus on premium microdramas. Um, we're trying to build a a creative first ecosystem that prioritizes elevating the storytelling in this space, um, ethical production. While still creating highly bingeable vertical series.
That's amazing. That sounds really, really exciting. Um, I mean you've kind of covered this with mentioning the premium content and the um ethical creation. But I wanted to ask, why vertical storytelling and why now? What what is the gap that Share T V is trying to fill?
Sure. Um I think audience behavior has shifted.
Why do Candace and Calvin believe vertical storytelling should be quality‑driven instead of volume‑driven?
People are already consuming content. Um vertically on their phones. Um But much of the vertical space has been volume driven versus quality driven. And I think that Sarah fills that gap by pairing the addictive pacing of verticals with stronger writing, um, stronger production value and more diverse storytelling. Um, a lot of the current platforms, they tend to repeat the same tropes because, you know, they're scared to take risks and those have worked so far. Um, but audience audiences want more. Um Verticals are still really young and I think that right now a lot of the companies are optimizing for immediate returns instead of a long term audience trust.
Definitely. It's it's very interesting that you've touched on on the content a little bit. And like you said, there's certain tropes and certain genres that come up a lot. Um but what genres or formats are you guys prioritizing and why?
Sure. So I think we're still leaning into that that romance element. Um a lot of young adult content, female driven coming of age stories are are big priorities for us. Um stories that include more diverse casting are really important to us. I would say if we have a vibe, it's CW meets eight twenty four.
That's really cool. That's a really cool way to describe it. Um so are you focusing on scripted mostly or is there also a bit of unscripted in there?
So a little bit of both, I'll let uh Kelvin jump in on the the unscripted portion.
Um, just jumping into the first question, my uh my name is Calvin Singh. I'm the chief operating officer and one of the founding partners at Shira.
