Chris Van Vliet 0:00
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Van
Unknown 0:04
Vlee.
Unknown 0:15
It's inside with Chris and me.
Chris Van Vliet 0:19
So much has happened since the last time I saw you.
Chelsea Green 0:22
It feels like two days and two hundred years all at the same time.
Chris Van Vliet 0:25
Right. That was Survivor Series. Yeah. So not quite a year ago, but my goodness, a lot's happened.
Chelsea Green 0:32
A lot has happened.
Chris Van Vliet 0:34
I think the biggest thing that's happened since the last time I saw you is you are now the WWE women's champion.
Unknown 0:42
Yeah.
Chelsea Green 0:43
Crazy, right? How's that feel when you hear that? Little girl from Victoria, BC. It's crazy. It's crazy because um I never actually dreamt of that moment. Like And I feel like people wouldn't be surprised by that because they know that like I've just been along for the ride. Like it is what it is. Whatever happens, happens. Like I kind of like let go of like. having strict goals within the parameters of pro wrestling a long time ago when I realized that I couldn't control anything, right? And um so then when this kind of like fell into my lap in SummerSlam. I I was like Holy Like, I did it. I did it but I didn't even like necessarily set out to do the thing and then I did the thing. Now I'm at the top.
Chris Van Vliet 1:37
What's so interesting about your career is you've gotten to this point by not caring about winning matches.
Chelsea Green 1:43
Not caring about much, really. Like, besides just like entertaining and having fun, like I really haven't like stressed out about my job. Since Probably since like After tough enough. For the first year of my career, I stressed out really hard.
Unknown 2:00
And
Chelsea Green 2:00
then after toughen up, when I realized, like, oh. What's meant to be will be and you can't control anything and like Sometimes the people who don't deserve things get it, and the people who do don't, and vice versa. Like anything could happen. I st I let it go after that.
Chris Van Vliet 2:18
But some people will hear that and think that you don't care. And that's that's not it. Yeah. Like you you care deeply. And that's so obvious, whether it's a promo, a backstage, a match, whatever. You care, but I guess you just don't whatever happens, happens.
Chelsea Green 2:32
I care about like my work ethic, the the package that I bring to work, the way that I treat people backstage or the way that I interact with fans. I care about being entertaining. I care about if I have a promo, I'm gonna make sure it's the best promo I can give or the best backstage. I care about the outfit and the aesthetics, but like I don't care about the grand scheme of things because like I can't. I would be up all hours of the night if I cared. about my creative and the direction I was going in. It's like, I'm not in the writer's room.
Unknown 3:13
Yeah.
Chelsea Green 3:13
The most Like insight that I've got into the writer's room is unreal.
Chris Van Vliet 3:19
That's funny.
Chelsea Green 3:21
I saw what the fans saw, and that's the first time I was like Wow, like that's what it looks like. That's the conversations they have. That's the round table they sit at. I didn't know. I was like, maybe they're on Zoom on their couch. I wasn't sure.
Chris Van Vliet 3:35
Did you think along this journey of Going into WWE, getting released, coming back to WWE, did you think like I'm just happy to be here. Like, did you think it wasn't even possible to be WWE champion?
Chelsea Green 3:48
Oh my god, yeah. When I came back in twenty twenty three. I don't care what I'm doing. You want me on TV for two seconds? You want me to, you know, like take the jaded five weeks in a row? You want me to Be the first one out of the Royal Rumble, don't care, just happy to be here. Like I needed a break. The grind. I had been grinding since two thousand and fourteen to the point where like I was just, I was exhausted because. I'm one of those people where I was scheduling work for like like three month chunks at a time. So you think like, okay, I'll schedule these three months, I can chill, I'll I'll do the bookings, I'll do whatever. But like, no, because I was thinking today about what was gonna happen three months from tomorrow.
Chelsea Green 4:36
Like I just kept thinking about the booking, booking, booking, making more money, doing more. How can I make my name bigger, my brand bigger? What more can I do? And it was so exhausting by the time. That I texted Triple H and asked for my job back in twenty twenty-three.
