Chapter 1: How did the Dragons achieve their biggest win in almost a year?
G'day and welcome to Kenti Blitz, your daily hit of NRL news. And today I'm here with Paul Crawls Crawley because Kenti's off today. He's got a bit of a croaky throat. So finally the crowd's saying we've managed to shut Kenti up. Crawls, what do you think?
Yeah, he's lost his voice. The world's a better place.
Chapter 2: What challenges are the Broncos facing this season?
Very good, very good. Anyway, shout out to Kenti at home, hopefully on the mend, and we'll be back tomorrow or the day after, hopefully. But Crawls, as you know, I'm a Dragons fan and I'm happy today.
Yeah, where's that been hiding for 295 days?
Unbelievable, wasn't it?
Chapter 3: What impact do recent performances have on Michael Maguire's future?
Unbelievable.
It was great. Yeah, it was great. They played so well.
Chapter 4: What are the current issues within the Bulldogs team?
I don't know. Let's talk about the Dragons and we'll talk about the Broncos because they're obviously very different teams yesterday.
Yeah, well, look, you can look at it two ways. The Dragons were good and the Broncos were bad. And I was so happy for the Dragons. You know, all they've been through that side, you know, they've 15 straight losses dating back to, what was it, round 23 last year. And, you know, everything's gone wrong for those.
Chapter 5: How did the Panthers and Warriors game turn out?
But those young forwards have never stopped putting in. And you could really see a gain yesterday and last week as well. But yesterday, you know, the Couchman brothers and Hamish Stewart and Dylan Egan and Loco Pacifica Tonga was tremendous. And then you've got guys like Cookie and Gutho who never stopped trying for that side.
Chapter 6: What major changes are being called for in the NSW Origin team?
Val suddenly was Val again yesterday. You know, the bounce of the ball was going his way. I thought it was Dan Atkinson's best game for the club.
By a lot.
You know, like when he put that kick through, it was just – it was a moment. You could see the light come into him, couldn't you, when he chased through and he just scored. And it was just like such a relief for that entire club.
Let's talk about that, Crawls, because for a team that's lost 11 in a row this year, they weren't without confidence. And it probably summed it up best with Atkinson's try because when you're getting beat, to take that risk that he did could have quite easily gone another way and everyone would be blowing up again. You surprised by that?
No, I think they need to do that.

Chapter 7: How are the Dragons planning to build on their recent success?
They needed to break the shackles. They've been playing too controlled for too long and it just doesn't work in the modern game, does it? Like you've got to back yourselves. You've got to string some passes together. You've got to take your opportunities when they present themselves. And I think that's obviously what Dean Young's trying to be and work in this side.
Like, you know, he came into the job. His first week was against the Roosters. They got absolutely pulverised. But I reckon if you look, and everyone wants to always see wins, but I thought when Dean Young went into this job,
The one thing you wanted to do was see slight improvements, you know, whether it be in their discipline, in how they back each other up, the one percenters, but also in the style of play they play. And they're a very limited squad. And, you know, I don't mean to be offensive towards the calibre of player there, but they're up against it. So they've got to try something a little bit different.
And yesterday it just came off for them. Will that change every week? Who knows? But young blokes will get great confidence out of that. And it could be something that sparks in that club to turn things around.
I know Dean Young has been trying to change the way the team plays and to make them play more direct. And they showed a little bit against the Warriors probably in that first 20 minutes. And then they seem to go back to this play where they just shift and the defence can read it quite easily. What they did yesterday was they played that more direct mode of attack the whole game for 80 minutes.
And even when Brisbane came back, they still backed themselves, which I thought was interesting compared to kind of where they were a few weeks ago. I think Dean Young's made a big difference for those young blokes particularly.
You know, Dean Young is a player and this is, you know, Bennett always says it. You know, he was the heart and soul of that club when they won the 2010 Premiership, you know. It wasn't necessarily just what he gave them on the field. It was what he gave them off the field. And he's obviously a very inspirational fella. And you can see that rubbing off on the players.
You can tell that the players want to play for him. And I don't think we had that previously. under Flanagan towards the end. You know, that effort just wasn't there. And so when you're thinking about the future for the Dragons, you know, I know that there's two guys in the conversation at that club right now.
There's Dean Young and there's Ben Hornby, both great blokes, both club legends and both obviously pretty good coaches. But I do think it's important that the club makes a decision sooner rather than later because, you know, you've got the potential. If these players are, you know... buying into what Young's selling, you've got the potential to turn things around.

Chapter 8: What does the future hold for the Bulldogs under Cameron Serraldo?
And I don't think you'll find someone that loves the club more. No. That's not saying Hornby won't either, you know what I mean? Yeah, of course. But he's there. And he took the brave jump and – And he risked a lot.
I tell you, at the time when he came on, there were people saying to him who, you know, were close to him, Dean, this is career suicide, what you're doing. The club is the – Playing group isn't good enough. And he asked those people to step aside because he was making the decision because he believed in himself and the playing group to be able to do what he did yesterday.
And I know it's one win, right? But it's not that. It's the way they're playing and they're playing for each other. And I know the young guys love Dean Young. And that's a decision, obviously, for the club to be made soon. Let's talk about the Broncos because...
They seem to be in the same position – well, they are in the same position they were last year at this time of the year, 11th on the ladder. But I thought it was worrying signs for them yesterday. They just didn't seem to be in the game until the last 15.
Well, it's eerily similar, isn't it? Like it's four losses in a row last year, four losses in a row – this year. I think the difference now is that they've climbed the mountain last year. You know what I mean? There was that motivation to come back from it and they know they've got a great squad. And when they turn up to play, they can do anything.
And so it was this time last year where I think it was Ben Teo organised to take him out on the drink after the loss to Manly. And it was sort of like the circuit breaker of their season. And from that point on, I think they only lost two games, ended up finishing in the four. And we all know You know, the rest is history.
Whereas this year, and we've seen it aside from Penrith, you go back to the Roosters, it's so hard to win back-to-back premierships these days and the motivation levels have to be there. And so what was a concern was you saw that performance yesterday and Reece Walsh is a great example. There was occasions yesterday where one time he went up for a bomb, right, and he didn't get the ball.
He dropped on his back and he sat on the ground. And the Dragons scored, right? And you saw Ethan Strange in Origin last week where he got bowled over and he picked himself up at the deck and he chased after Crichton and he ended up scoring that try. Well, that was an Origin moment and that's what Reece Walsh did for the Broncos towards the back end of last year.
Like his performance in the grand final, it wasn't just what he does with the ball, it was what he did in defence. And yesterday that wasn't there. And that's the concern for the Broncos at the minute is that they just haven't got that hunger. And so Madge spoke about that after the game. And look, let's be fair dinkum here.
