When a group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist, they take matters into their own hands. I vowed I will be his last target. He is not going to get away with this. He's going to get what he deserves. We always say that. Trust your girlfriends. Listen to The Girlfriends, Trust Me Babe, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I got you, I got you. On the Look Back At It podcast. 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year.

Chapter 2: How did the hosts react to Tyran Stokes' commitment to Kansas?
Who knows?
Who knows? I mean, who knows? Somebody said online, Shannon, he looked like Ryan, which is not a good sign.
That's not a good sign.
Are we just not marriage material anymore? I thought we were marriage material. Why are we not marriage material anymore? Why? Providence is marriage material now. We have a nice dowry. I have good history. Listen, I'm not going to ā I want this to work. I do. Everyone wants it to work. But there has to be a coming to Jesus moment with all this stuff.
Yep.
It has seemed like ā if I look at my time covering this, the one thing that has brought coaches down at this school ā the ones that have failed, is hubris. And Mark Pope on the surface is not someone with a lot of hubris. He seems like a humble guy. But they have shut out the world. They are in a bunker mentality. The other people at the university have no idea what's going on. That's scary.
And when you hear, I think one of the interesting things, Jay Blanton yesterday at the Champions Blue meeting, I don't know if you saw his comments, but he said, we as a university have to change our PR strategy, including we have to have some coaches telling stories differently. Wow, really? Well, I mean, who could that be about? No doubt who that finger was pointed at. Who could that be about?

Chapter 3: What insights are shared about Justin McBride's commitment to Kentucky?
I think you're going to see at the end of this a movement of, all right, Mark, you want this to work? You can't be doing that. I think they're going to end up making him take a GM. I think this decision right here should force his hand to make it. I think they have to. Yep. I think it's clear. Mark, I think he can do the X's and O's. I mean, there are still questions, but I think he can.
But the other parts of this, he clearly can't.
He can't do it.
He keeps striking out. The sort of negotiating, horse trading, he can't do that. When you get 14 of those kids on campus, he can't close the deal. He's just not good at it. And at some point you have to look in the mirror and say, I'm not good at this.
I need help.
I know in my life I'm not good at, like, money transactions. Money doesn't ā I think I'm pretty good at figuring out what will work and what's not. But when it comes down to the dollars and cents, I'm really not very good at it. So I have a partner, a hubby, you hear me talk about, who he handles all that. That's history. Mark's got to go find a hubby, all right, because he's bad at it.
Is Hubby available? Hubby's busy. But I'm serious. He's got to go find that. He's bad at it. He just is. This is a glaring... that you need to do this. And I don't know. I don't know if he can relate. Like, can he relate to these kids? That's why I thought you brought in ā I don't know. You bring in Mo Williams. You're trying to get Jamal Crawford to two. And I think that's good.
I'm glad we got Mo Williams. But somebody's got to take his phone. You can't ā Mo Williams, you can't be tweeting at players and say, let's go, and then they pick the other schools. Now, what about Pope even? It is embarrassing. And he deleted it ten minutes later. But, like, you can't do that here. We're going to already have seen it. Like ā I mean, that means one of two things.
When you put let's go, that means either you're saying you think we're going to get him or you're so oblivious to our fan base that you think we're going to celebrate him going somewhere else. Pope even favorited a tweet from somebody else. Was that real? It looked like it was his real account. I hope not. I saw that. I still haven't been clear that that was real.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Kentucky's recruiting challenges?
It's Wings Day, though. That's good. These guys are from Winchester. They're nice. There's some positivity. We'll be right back. 2%. That is the number of people who take the stairs when there is also an escalator available.
I'm Michael Easter, and on my podcast, 2%, I break down the science of mental toughness, fitness, and building resilience in our strange modern world. I'll be speaking with writers, researchers, and other health and fitness experts and more to look past the impractical and way too complex pseudoscience that dominates the wellness industry.
We really believe that seed oils were inherently inflammatory. We got it wrong. Many of the problems that we are freaked out about in the world are the result of stress.
Put yourself through some hardships, and you will come out on the other side a happier, more fulfilled, healthier person. Listen to 2%, that's T-W-O percent, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what y'all say. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.

I'm talking Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

Chapter 5: How is the performance of Mark Pope's coaching staff evaluated?
Played well.
I actually think Mark Pope does a pretty good job of figuring out who to go after. He still doesn't get them.
Not be able to close the deal.
I don't think his eye for scouting is bad. That's why when I say GM, I think they do a pretty good job of figuring out who to target. They need somebody who's greasy in the weeds and gets it done. You need somebody who closes the deal because it's clear. I mean, here's something I learned in the last 72 hours I didn't know.
I think I assumed that the people at the negotiating table were lawyers or JMI or someone from the university. No, it's Pope and his staff. So last year what would happen is Pope and his staff would hand the process of the negotiation to someone else. We've talked about that. It was the collective. Then they brought it in-house.
I assumed that that would mean that it was probably JMI doing the negotiating. Now, JMI has a role in all this, but literally like the person talking to the player's agent would be JMI. I'm told it's Pope and his staff. Wow. That's even more damning. Yes, because that's not what they do. They're basketball coaches. You need people who deal with agents. Yes. You need a GM.
Keegan Brown, who they brought in, he's an analytics guy. He's a guy that looks at the numbers and goes, he's probably the guy that found this kid in Israel.
Maybe, yeah.
But he's not a ā get in the weeds and negotiate. He's not looking at an agent at a poker game and going, all right, what do you want? I fold, right? So you got basically, you got little guppies going into the battle with alligators, you know? I'm serious. Like, you get eaten alive. Yeah. You get eaten alive.

Chapter 6: What strategies are suggested for improving Kentucky's recruiting efforts?
There are some people who know how to handle these people. Yeah. I just think we've got a bunch ā I mean, you put a computer scientist in front of an agent for the number one ā you're going to get crushed. And Kansas has been dealing with these people forever. They've been on probation. You know, they got dudes who are in the gutters doing this stuff. And we have nerds.
Goes along with what we said. They have trouble connecting with the younger generation. So, all right. I'm going to take your calls. I'm not going to be angry. Good monologue, by the way, though. You did have your eyeballs ended up being correct. I guess we've got to lecture you later. Be right back.
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. Phone lines, we're going to go to them here. One person writes, Matt, we need a guy like Slice. Slice would be good in this world. Slice is that kind of guy. Like Slice is, you know, he's from the streets of Queens. He can talk to agents. He can talk. I've been with Slice in multiple different ā Slice was my guy.
He wasn't here long enough. Because, like, he could walk into any room. But, you know, I mean, that's one of the things about Cal is, you know, I don't know if Cal's ā we have debates about the coaching of Cal. But one of the things Cal has always been good at is relating to people.
Yes.
And Cal was fine moving ā like Cal had some people where he'd walk out the room and then another guy would walk in and go, all right, are we going to get this done? Here we go. You know, he was fine being around people who would get your hands dirty. Pope needs that guy. We need that guy. We need, you know, have you seen Pulp Fiction? Yes.
You know when they accidentally shoot the guy in the car? Yes. You remember that? And they got the blood all over the back of it? And they drive to Harvey Keitel's house. What's his name in the show? Do you remember? No. Whatever it was. But they go because he fixes the problem, right? He's the fixer. That might be what they call him is the fixer. That's what we need, a guy like that.
We definitely need a guy like that. And I think also maybe Mitch Barnhart didn't like having people around like that. But now Mitch is gone. Right. Different era. No more everybody associated with the program doesn't need to go to Southland. I mean, we have some people that go to Southland. I got nothing against Southland. But they don't need to all go there.

Chapter 7: What are the listeners' reactions and opinions on the discussed topics?
Four days early. That's one day to look at it.
But, yes. So, the timing of the announcement, I'm happy for the kid. He could be like a Mo Diabate guy, give you a little strength and rebounding and toughness down low where you kind of need it right now. But the timing for the kid is awful. I feel bad for him. I feel bad for him, too. I mean ā I think he's a good get.
I think actually he's even a better get when you consider that you pair him with the guy from Senegal. Yeah. Because I think they ā They could be the Diabate Yelovich. Well, I mean, they're just two different kinds of guys. And so, like, there'll be games where you'll want to play McBride more, and then there might be games you want to play the longer, lean guy. So I actually like that.
He shot 41% from threes. And the more I read about this kid that they're seeing in Israel, I'm fine with him because I think he'll come here and probably be a backup to Malachi. But I still, like, we need somebody good. Like, we still need a really good player. A dude. We need a dude. And those guys are not a dude. Right. So we need a dude. Are there any dudes out there? Well, I don't know.
I think the dudes we have are at power forward. And when you sign the two guys, if they get the kid from Israel, then like ā Like the kid from Iowa State, are you going to get him when you already have four bigs on your roster?
That's true.
Like how many bigs are you trying to get? At some point you're going to be going, okay, we still ā you know, right now we still only have two guards. Did we not learn our lesson last year when we only had three guards? We only have two guards on the roster right now that can play. Right. We have two freshmen that are development guys. Yes. But, I mean, are we going to get any more guards?
I'd say they've got to go out and get somebody. I'm just wondering, if there's nothing left in the United States, are we going to be filling up the roster with European players? I mean, we don't really have any wings either. We have Cam, but that's really it. We don't have any wings.
Trent, where would he fit in?

Chapter 8: What conclusions do the hosts draw about the future of Kentucky basketball?
All right, guys. Tyron Stokes played us like a freaking fiddle. We've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, and led astray by this guy. And he said, you know what, give me two weeks to make my decision. All that two weeks really was was who was going to sponsor his commitment and where he was going to do it.
And he did it with freaking Panini on TV. And we just got embarrassed. You know, I'm ready for football season. The Power K is back. That's all I got. Part of me wonders, I appreciate the call. I mean, can I be like cynical conspiracy theorist? Please, that's what this show is for.
Part of me wonders if Kansas said to him, wait two weeks, because if Kentucky is going to wait, they can't get any players in those two weeks. And we opened with them to start the season. There may be a little truth to it. I mean, I don't know that. But he waited a long time. You know, I don't blame the kid. I mean, the kid doesn't owe anybody anything.
But he was watching Kentucky basketball in the background.
You know, but I think we could. Next level trolling.
I think it is fair to say he trolls. He trolled us. People, I mean, look, Kentucky fans are not going to like him. But what does he care in some ways if he's not coming here? What about the whole Nike Adidas thing? Clearly didn't matter.
Didn't matter.
Apparently Kansas, somebody reported on the Kansas site they changed the deal, so it didn't matter. See, that's the kind of thing, though, you do if you really want somebody. If you really want somebody, you go, okay, we're an Adidas school, but we want you, we'll find a way to make it work.
We'll find a way to make it happen.
