On today's show, I'm going to get into the injury report, which unfortunately has some more surprises and not good ones for the Lakers, plus some keys to the game, including some trends that we're seeing right now that I think could continue tonight. and it would be a great thing to see. Not good. DeAndre Ayton out once again with left elbow soreness. Missed last game as well against the Utah Jazz. Meant that Jackson Hayes was the starter in the paint for the Lakers. I'm assuming that's what's going to happen again tonight, which means Jackson Hayes having to battle our old friend Ivica Zubac. That's going to be a difficult proposition for Jackson.
We'll talk more about that in just a bit. Plus, Austin Reeves, J.J. Redick said he'd be out a week. Now it's a week and a little bit more. Left calf strain still out of action for tonight's game against the Clippers. is this just the lakers being extra cautious hopefully we'll hear more from jj ahead of the game tonight but austin reeves out yet again and gabe vincent low back soreness still out we knew because jj mentioned the other day when it was first revealed he would miss the jazz game that he would be out probably about a week as well so starting his timer at a week from a few days ago would mean j or would mean gabe would miss this game as well can jj suit up they may need him to At this point, J.J.
may just have to put on a jersey and go out there and play. Because guess what? Rui Hachimura is now questionable as well. So what does all of that mean? That means the Lakers could be heading into tonight's game down three starters. Rui, Aiton, Reeves heading into this matchup against the Clippers. Again, Rui right now, right groin soreness listed as questionable. But if the Lakers are being cautious, that could move Rui more towards out. We'll see. Hopefully Rui is a go. But if he's not available, then we're really looking at the rotation shifting significantly. Marcus Smart has been starting in place of Austin Reeves. Jackson Hayes would continue to start in place of DeAndre Ayton. If Rui is out, Jared Vanderbilt, Jake LaRavia, probably one of those two guys would wind up drawing the start for the Lakers in the lineup.
And then that would obviously mean more opportunities potentially for a do zero for Dalton connect. Nick Smith Jr. perhaps off the bench for the Lakers. The minutes would become even more available than they were last game against the Utah Jazz. Bronny James will be with the South Bay Lakers, however, so that means the Lakers, if all of these guys are out, so Bronny's with South Bay, Gabe, Austin, Aiton, plus Rui, that's five players. That would mean that the Lakers, in terms of regular roster spots available, regular players that are on full spots to play in this game, the Lakers could be down to nine. They only have 14 on the roster. That could leave them with just nine players going into tonight's game.
Now, that's not counting the two-way players, but still, this could be a very thin outing.
