So let's dig in into today's episode. All right, let's get started. Today, I'm here as your coach. I'm going to guide you through this exercise today.

0

143.705 - 164.005 Carolina de Arriba

It's really an attempt to help you integrate everything that you've learned this month, not just from listening to me, but from actually just observing yourself. So we're going to start with awareness because before you can change anything, you have to see it clearly.

0

Chapter 6: What is the purpose of the integration coaching session?

164.706 - 194.687 Carolina de Arriba

So I want you to pause for a second and think back over this month. What did you actually notice? Not what you learned, not what you think you should do, but what did you notice about yourself, about your energy, about your patterns? I'm going to ask you three questions and I want you to take your time with them. Don't rush. Really sit with each one. Like we did last month after...

0

195.038 - 218.045 Carolina de Arriba

Each question, I'm gonna do a music pause so you can actually pause the audio and think about the question, reflect about the question. Even better if you have a notebook or a journal or maybe you're using the notes section on your iPad, computer or phone, take some notes. This is really important. This is where the work starts to come to life in your own life.

0

219.106 - 246.444 Carolina de Arriba

Let's start with question number one. What surprised you most? When you did the energy audit back in week two, what showed up that you didn't expect? Maybe you thought certain meetings drain you, but they actually energize you. Maybe you realize that meetings with certain people fill your up while meetings with others leave you empty, even when the topics are the same.

0

246.664 - 275.817 Carolina de Arriba

Maybe you discover that you're spending 70% of your time in your excellent zone work that you're really good at, but that completely depletes you. Maybe you notice that when you skip your morning routine, your whole day feels reactive and scattered. Or maybe you saw that you're most creative and energized in the late afternoon, not in the morning like you always thought. What surprised you?

0

276.258 - 313.677 Carolina de Arriba

Take a minute. And if you can, even write it down. That would be even better. The question is, once again, what surprised you most this month? Question number two, what patterns keep showing up? Look across the past few weeks. What do you keep bumping into? Maybe it's, I keep saying yes when I actually want to say no. Or every time I skip movement in the morning, I'm exhausted by 2pm.

313.877 - 337.104 Carolina de Arriba

Or I'm most drained after back to back meetings with no buffer time, even when the meetings themselves are fine. Or I keep taking on excellent zone work because people ask me to, and I don't know how to redirect them in a different direction. Or maybe I feel most alive when I'm doing a strategic work, but I spend most of my time on execution.

337.285 - 371.195 Carolina de Arriba

What's the patterns that, what's the pattern that keeps showing up for you? The thing you keep noticing in different forms, in different ways. Think about it, write it down. Question number three, what are you avoiding looking at? This one is harder, but I want you to really be honest with yourself. Have you been avoiding acknowledging something?

371.736 - 391.374 Carolina de Arriba

Maybe it's the realization that your current role is 70% or more excellent zone. And no matter how you slice it, there's no path to change without changing roles. Maybe it's the conversation you need to have with your manager about your workload or your career direction.

391.595 - 416.973 Carolina de Arriba

Maybe it's that you need to say no to the promotion that everyone thinks you should take but that would move you even further into work that drains you. Maybe it's that... You're actually burnt out and need real rest, not just better productivity hacks. Maybe it's that you've outgrown your role, your team, or even your organization and it's time to start looking. What are you avoiding?

Chapter 7: What three reflective questions should I consider about my energy patterns?

848.171 - 871.678 Carolina de Arriba

I'm going to put the link on the show notes of today's podcast episode. As you're listening to me talking to you every week and you have questions, just submit them. And on the last episode of the month, I promise I'm going to take time like today to answer your questions. So let's start with question number one. It says, I'm in the wrong role, but I can't quit. What do I do?

0

871.827 - 902.07 Carolina de Arriba

All right, this was by far the most common question I got this month, which I was a little bit surprised, to be honest. I got a lot of questions saying, hey, Carolina, I did the energy audit. I see that I'm spending 70%, sometimes 80% of my time in my excellence work zone. Work that I'm good at, but that's completely draining me. And I can't see a way to change it. Do I just have to quit?

0

902.523 - 931.99 Carolina de Arriba

No, you don't have to quit, but you do have to do something. Here's how I think about this. First, you need to figure out, is this a role problem or a ratio problem? Let me explain what I mean. A role problem means this role is structurally incompatible with your energy. No matter how you slice it, it's always going to be really high on that excellent zone work. And there's

0

932.172 - 961.574 Carolina de Arriba

No realistic path to change that within this role. For example, you're in an operations role, but your genius zone is a strategic thinking. Their role by definition requires 80% operational execution. Their role is the problem. On the other hand, a ratio problem means that Your role could be more aligned with your energy, but right now you're spending your time on things you shouldn't be.

0

961.734 - 988.989 Carolina de Arriba

Maybe because of how work is distributed or because you haven't delegated or because you're doing work that could be done by someone else. The role has potential for alignment, but the current distribution is off. That's a ratio problem. So first, get really honest with yourself. Which one is it? Because if it's a ratio problem, you have options. You can shift things around.

989.37 - 1011.981 Carolina de Arriba

But if it's a role problem, you need a different strategy. So let's start with if it's a ratio problem, meaning the role could work, but the current distribution is draining you. You have three options, maybe more, but three that I can think right off my head. Option number one is have a redesigned conversation with your manager.

1012.182 - 1038.003 Carolina de Arriba

This is scary for most people, but it's often more effective than you think. This is how to do it. Book 30 minutes with your manager and come prepared. Don't go in complaining. Don't say I'm burnout or this is too much. Instead, frame it around value creation. Say something like this. I've been reflecting on where I create the most value for the team.

1038.183 - 1066.037 Carolina de Arriba

I've noticed that I'm most effective and productive and produce the best results when I'm doing whatever your genius work zone is. Right now, I'm spending a significant amount of time on... whatever your excellent zone work is. And while I can do it, I'm wondering if there's a way we can shift some of that work so I can focus more on where I have the biggest impact for the team.

1066.057 - 1091.938 Carolina de Arriba

Most good managers, I said this on the previous episode, they want you in your genius zone because that's where you create the most value for the organization. Now, they might not be able to shift everything overnight, but often they can help you move 20 to 30% of your excellent zone work off of your plate. And that shift makes all the difference.
