I am very excited to talk to you today about this set. I think this format looks really sweet. Again, I'm trying to temper my own expectations because I see a lot of cool like, ooh, I think there's this energy here and I think there's this cool build around here. And I'm just waiting for the rate monsters to come and just eat those up and say, nope, you don't get to have any fun. But for now, I see a lot of quite a broad landscape for us ahead in the next few months.
That is my hope. And a lot of unique cards, too, where I'm like, oh, that looks pretty powerful, but I'm not sure how good it's going to be compared to this other stuff. It's been very difficult looking at the spoiler to predict how the format's going to play out.
Yeah, and I think Empower Jace is just so cool. Or EJ, as I don't know if you saw. EJ. Well, Ben White has started, who is the limited lead for this set, has started telling some stories on social media about it. And I think just for length of character's sake, abbreviated Empower Jace to EJ, which I kind of like. Which feels like he's an old friend. Right, EJ's here. So I think that Empower Jace is going to have... The maybe kind of like ring tempting or kind of like these sort of mechanics that it feels like it is a callback to have all felt like I got to wait to see it in play before I really know what's going on with it. I wonder how quickly it's going to be like, as soon as Empower Jace is there, you're going to be like, oh, I get it.
Or is it going to take a few drafts, a few games, a few back and forth to really figure out the nuances of when do I attack this? When do I protect mine? When do I down tick the one for surveil? When do I wait to down tick three to draw? Like, it seems like there's a lot of play and counterplay to the mechanic.
Yeah, I've got some thoughts on Empower, Jace. That's one of my format truths is diving into that puzzle there. I've got some predictive patterns for that. But that's one of the things you're going to get in this podcast, folks, is what we expect from the format in addition to what we think the best cards are.
