Chapter 1: What unexpected drama is discussed at the start of the episode?
Hello and welcome back to the Maths Funny Podcast and welcome to what I'm now calling the Saturday spoiler episode or the Sunday morning spoiler episode, depending when I get time to edit and post this. And before I get into the mess of this week's commitment ceremony and what we can then expect throughout the week, including the couple who quit...
I've actually got something I need to address because I've seen some unexpected drama unfolding on the internet and it involves me. And I've got a little rant that I actually do want to get off my chest. Now, I'm going to be honest with you, right?
I rarely read the comments on my posts and I especially don't read comments and posts about me on other people's pages or forums or TikTok or whatever. And when I post something, like I'll keep an eye on it for the first few minutes, see what people say, but then I quickly just move on because it can become quite time consuming, but also it can be like...
mentally consuming, especially if I'm in the content, like the icebergs things or things that involve me. And I know not everybody out there who does listen or follow and just consumes the things I post likes me. I know that that's just the internet, which is fine. Not everyone will like you in life. I... Genuinely don't care, like whatever. You know, I choose to put things out there publicly.
I choose to make money this way and have a job that involves that. So that means, yes, I am open to criticism myself, just like the cast members I'm talking about are. Which again is fine, it's just I don't personally wish to go out my way to read opinions on me.
Anyway, yesterday I did decide to have a scroll through a few things because I was sent like a link to a forum about me, which do I regret that? Yes. And somebody was writing... why does Josh keep dragging Gia? And they were like suggesting I have some kind of agenda of my own.

Chapter 2: What is the host's perspective on online criticism and comments?
And my response to anybody actually thinking this, and like bear in mind, this was one person, but the comment kind of, it didn't piss me off, but it made me want to say this now is, I would happily never mention Gia's name again.
But the issue is like every new twist on this show and every new twist off the show in real time, like now, and just every bit of drama, it all seems to have her in the middle of it or connected to it just somehow, some way.
So yes, whereas it may seem I am constantly talking about Gia, that's because Gia has made sure that she was involved in everything and she went onto this show wanting to be the most talked about. So... Yeah, and on that note also, I then read a comment replying to that person who said something like, so disappointing to see a man, aka me, going out of his way to bring a woman, aka Gia, down.
And I'll be honest, I did firstly laugh at this, but... this is also something that I actually feel compelled to respond to here. So if that person is listening, which I assume you are as you were talking about my podcast, and that person to me surely must be someone who knows Gia personally because there's not many people out there defending her to this level, but... I'm not bringing Gia down.
She is bringing herself down through everything she's done and is continuing to do. And all I'm doing is reporting on her behavior, which is my job. Like it's my podcast. And on that topic, I want to say something else, giving it like some wider context in the world and society. And I'm not going to sit here and explain how
I'm someone who is quite passionate about supporting women and like really defend myself and try to justify myself to that comment because I know it's not true. And I know who I am as a person and what I stand for and what I do, but that's not what I'm getting to here. What I want to say again to that person and that comment and this kind of topic is,
People don't get a free pass in life because of their gender or because of their race or their sexuality or anything like that. And I see this a lot across the media and social media and like the influencer world when creators are...
feuding with each other or calling each other out, you know, when someone may fuck up or be copying some kind of backlash and instead of taking accountability or apologizing or just being like, okay, I hear you. Like that wasn't my intention for whatever the situation is.
You'll often see people choosing to weaponize the little box of diversity they tick to then make themselves the victim in everything instead. And Not that gender or sexuality should be seen as a box of diversity, but do you know what I mean on what I'm trying to get to? Maybe that's not the right word. So now back to the comment I read.

Chapter 3: How does the host address the controversy surrounding Gia?
..threatens to tear apart the experiment's strongest couple. If I'm being honest with myself and with Philip... ..this is a break-up. No!
And do they break up? No, of course they don't. As far as I'm told, they just have like a brief moment where Stella's going a bit like inner saboteur and she's overthinking things. And then they move past it as quickly as it became an issue. And then that's that.
And the main drama in the commitment ceremony will be Juliet storming off and quitting the show after Gia doesn't back her with the Beck stuff and those two turn on each other. And then apparently Gia also storms out and quits Gia. not the show, but the commitment ceremony. And she just like, I think she told everyone, oh, I'm just going for a break or the toilet or something.
And then she just left, like got in a taxi and went back to the hotel. And everyone's like, is she coming back? And she left because she didn't want to then have to face the music of these texts and the leaks and the screenshots. Now Juliet was gone. And you know what's sad to think actually, as all this shit was going down on the show, like Expert Mel,
She was going through round after round of chemotherapy in secret and at the same time coming to terms with the fact that the cancer she thought she'd be in, was it 2023? Hadn't just returned and spread to her brain, but is now...
Terminal, like if there's anything that puts things into perspective in life, like to me, it's this realization when you compare these things and, you know, Gia and Julia on this show thinking the world revolves around them and making what some leaked text messages or the receipts, as they say, feel like the biggest thing in the world because they think they're the most important things in the world.
And, you know, as they're doing that, there's literally a woman on the other side of the set, like a mother and a wife. Dealing with something actually worth getting upset about and worked up about and crying about.
And if you're not across Mel's side update from Friday, head to her Instagram where she did a big post kind of detailing everything she's been going through in private over the last couple of years and... Yeah, it's sad. And as you do that and read her post, maybe take a moment to then just obviously think about her and her family.
But I suppose also take a moment to think about your own life and how the things that might be getting to you and stressing you out or that may feel like mountains. They're actually mountains. not that deep, not that big, and not that important in the grand scheme of things in life. And yeah, that's something else I've been thinking about this morning while at the gym and went for a walk.
