What is this episode about and who is the guest?

Glen James 0:06
Today on the show, we are doing a what would Glenn do? This one is slightly different. My vibe and shtick won't be different. How it came about is slightly different. My guest today is Jess. Hi, Jess.
Jess (guest from Equity Mates) 0:19
Hi.
Glen James 0:20
And what we did a few months ago, Jess is hosting a podcast series on the podcast Get Started Investing. She invited me onto the show and we talked about personal budgeting because she was on a journey to invest in enlightenment and all that crap. And she's like, how do I manage my money? I'm like, do the Glenn James spending plan, get out of my office, all that stuff. I did the episode. We'll put a link in the show notes to that episode and the series, whatever. You can check that out. But for me, my own curiosity, because, like, you had me on there and you're like, there's your little car park lines. You stick in those lines, you naughty boy.
Yeah.
Glen James 1:03
And I'm just like far out. If I could get my mitts on your whole situation and have a chat, I would. And then I'm like, well, why don't you – you've got family that are nearby the studio because you're a Sydney gal. I'm like, why don't you pop up in? We'll do what will Glenn do on your situation. You can promote your show, plug it, all that crap, and we'll have a bit of fun along the way.
Jess (guest from Equity Mates) 1:28
Yeah, I wanted to come here because I'm very – I listen to What Would Glenn Do's. I'm a super fan. And I actually wanted to know what you would do in my situation. So I wanted to, yeah, as you said, expand on what we had done. So on the Get Started Investing journey, I'm currently – like we did our episode together – And I worked out my spending plan, which is going very well. I'm like two pay cycles in and I have stuck to it, which is very exciting. And then I've seen an advisor and got some advice on what they would do with that surplus income, but that's where I'm at. So I've stopped there and I want to know what you would do before I make any decisions.
Glen James 2:04
Right. Okay. And we've had some interesting text exchanges where I'm like – So part of her series, like I want to get started, you're talking with ETF managers, you're talking with freaking everyone with a heartbeat. I'm like, you might get confused pretty fast before you will be able to start.
Jess (guest from Equity Mates) 2:21
Yeah, I'm trying to do it in the stages because like we talk about these 12 steps to getting started. So I try to break them down. So it does feel a little slow.
Glen James 2:30
And a shout out to any of the other 12 steppers out there.
Jess (guest from Equity Mates) 2:34
Yep, shout out. But yeah, so I haven't made any decisions yet. So I actually want to hear what would Glenn do. You can see if I take that on board.
Glen James 2:43
We're going to get into it right now. Hey, this episode is brought to you by Sphere Home Loans. Remember, if you need a mortgage broker and you do not have one, why don't you Google Sphere Home Loans? I'll tell you a little bit about them. they support many of our listeners. They've got a dedicated team of mortgage brokers. They get the cut of my jib, right? So you'll talk to someone, they listen to the show, they get the type of vibe that I am and that you likely are. Because remember, like attracts like. I don't have heaps of people who are hardcore fire people or hardcore frugal savers or coupon shopping listeners. There could be a few of you. Hello, how are you? But like Jack's like, and if you are listening to this, sphere home loans are the same type of vibe.
Glen James 3:30
They'll call things how they are. Now, I do these ads off the cuff and that's probably a crap ad for Sphere Home Loans and I probably should be more prepared, but they do support the show. If you do not have a mortgage broker and you need one, reach out to Sphere Home Loans. If you've already got a mortgage broker, go back to your own broker. Now, if they don't return your calls and drop the ball, well... sucked into them. They've lost a client because of their own issues. But the advantages of a mortgage broker, they'll look at your personal situation, they'll look at your goals, then they'll provide to you the most appropriate options for you to achieve that goal. It's not what's the cheapest interest rate, it's who can give us the money and on what terms and when.
