Chapter 2: How does Jermaine Dupri find inspiration in his career?
We are back. Yeah, like we always are. Well, knock on wood, but yes. Blessed to be back. Always. Midweek. We never do like a midweek check-in. We always do like top of the week and then end of the week. That's true. Yeah, because usually we're running around at this point, you know, trying to figure out what to say to athletes. Or what to say to each other.
Yeah.
What am I going to say to Rory today? I don't know. I don't know how I'm feeling today, man. I'm just thinking about waking up at 6 a.m. to drive in Jersey traffic to drop Amar off at daycare. That's where my mind is at usually midweek. But something a little different, I guess, this week, but it won't I don't know. How about that? I feel like we need more transparency in podcasting.
Don't know ball can be tough sometimes because athletes are mid-season, out of season. They have obligations. Zoom is cool, but I don't know if it's the best way to do shit. So if an athlete isn't free, we'll find a friend or we'll kick it. Or we'll find someone random on the block that Maul grew up with. Yeah. Let's use the middle of the week to just check in on people. See how people are doing.
Chapter 3: What unique experiences does Jermaine Dupri share about Magic City?
It's just a mid-week check-in. Whoever we want to talk to, whoever we think about. Sometimes it won't be anybody. Yeah. But it'll be a midweek check in and we will find random strangers like, you know, one day we're going to interview Josh. You keep you keep getting mad at me when I try to interview Josh. But because you want to interview Josh for like weird reasons.
That's why I want to get to know him. You think he's a CIA agent? Like, that's why you possibly. Yeah. Cause we had another amazing person from volume come in today and they just, they hit it off. They, they went to high school together. Yeah. I was like, this seems like some CIA shit.
Yeah.
No, the CIA, they'll show you sooner or later like they're watching. Oh, these are two agents. Yeah. They worked in the same zone. Yeah. And the spot they from isn't that big. Like you don't run into a bunch of people from that spot. Yeah. Yeah. And then my parents went to school there too. So then my parents,
antennas went up like remember that was the first thing I said to Josh I was like my parents went to school my mom and my dad went to school there so yeah and then you know volume sending another person from over there agents yeah I see what's going on so you know that's So far, my midweek check-in. Yeah.

Chapter 4: How does Jermaine Dupri compare his hit records?
I love the volume, but, you know, they may have some agents. Well, I mean, this week we do have some friends in town. Well, one of our good friends is in town, and he said he's going to drop by today. So we're sitting and kicking with him now. So tomorrow, we are recording this on a Wednesday. You're hearing this on Thursday. So today, I suppose, I was invited to the Clips listening party.
I cannot go, but now I'm scared they're going to think that, like, I didn't go because I was scared. OK, so like help me deal with this conundrum. I mean, I can't go because he has a going away party with one of her friends. And I already agreed weeks ago. Yeah. But then I got that that Apple invite and I was like, man, America, watch yourself. She's to leave some chicken nuggets.
She'll be fine, right? I think so. Just close everything off stairs and everything. Make sure everything's closed off.
you know what i mean she can't get it too much yeah or what uh what that one guy do he just left his kids at uh the mcdonald's playground yeah well he went on the job interview yeah no you don't want to do that definitely don't want not a public so be it so be it no no no no not not when it comes to the kids no but that's so be it to the kids that's not what they was talking about definitely don't leave your kids at mcdonald's but um no just you know just hit push and be like yo listen bro want to come got the daughter like
No, no, I'm not. They're busy with other shit. I wouldn't even do that. Yeah. And they probably wouldn't even notice that I was there or not. But, like, my own ego and psyche was like, I hope they know, like, I wanted to go. Yeah. Like, I wasn't... I'm not on the OVO team. Just give me the album, man. I just want to hit a music, man. I don't need to go to a listening event.

Chapter 5: What game do the hosts play with Jermaine Dupri?
It did leak. The whole album? Yesterday, yeah. I have not seen... like mp3 files leak in quite some time wow I can't can you guys remember last time a album leaked like that no we've gotten like weird leaks like even CLB had a bunch of random joints but they weren't done the final shit leaked wow yeah which I have not seen and I thought to myself is that maybe a cool rollout tactic
No, I don't think the Clipsy used that as a rollout. I feel like they've been doing a lot of old school marketing rollout tactics that we have not seen in a while. And it was only up for a little bit. I tried to go find it and it was gone by that time, but people had it. I thought that was kind of like a cool two days out. And you're doing the blog era style rollout.
Like I don't think the clips, I don't think they are into those games anymore, but I don't think they really care about, well, of course they care about sales. It's their job. But like, I don't think their end all be all is like, we need to sell this amount. You know, they're independent slash rock nation. Like it's going to do what it's going to do. Right. Yeah, leak it.
And first of all, I don't think that'll take away from any album sales. No, the clips are already, you know, they are who they are. They have their audience. You know, they're always looking for ways to kind of tap in and, you know, reach new people. But I don't think that's their focus. I think they know who they are.
They know the people that support them, know what to expect, what people have heard, what I've heard so far. I like it. So, I mean, if a leak happened online, I mean, I'm glad I missed it because I probably wouldn't have clicked it anyway. I'll just wait for when the album comes out. But I don't think they're using that as a rollout.
While we're here, can we pull up the greatest moment in listening party history?

Chapter 6: What are Jermaine Dupri's thoughts on the current music industry?
Can you type in Kanye West, Pusha T album listening? Remember when Kanye was off the goose and started freestyling? I was a goose right now. He started hosting. I was there. I saw that in person. That was like off Gansport.
Can we turn that up?
Give him some bars.
Pause, pause, pause.
I mean, you see how he tied the bar together. Yeah, Goose and Loose. That was so tough. It's funny. And then when the Push album dropped, I tried to like go find that verse. I couldn't. No. Did Genius put that one up? I hope not. But I mean, now they have an album coming out and Kanye is nowhere near this music. I think they'll be okay. I don't know. They'll be fine.
It's just funny to see how things happen. Do you think Push, like in this very moment, was like, two more albums?
Yeah.
I think I'm cool. Yeah, I think this was it. Two more. Yeah, yeah, I'm cool.

Chapter 7: How does Jermaine Dupri view the future of R&B music?
Two more. I'll find a loophole. Yeah, we'll figure something out to get away from this shit because there's just too much going on right now. But I am looking forward to the album, the Eclipse album. I'm glad I didn't hear no leak music. I don't want to hear it like that. Yeah, I want to hear it actually on Thursday at midnight. But where's the first place you listened to Eclipse album? Now?
It's got to be the car. No, I'll be home. For now. Well, you could, I don't know, maybe order an Uber, make sure it's a woman driver. Ask for the auxiliary cord. I'll be in the house. Just hit the West Highway. In the crib on the couch. Yeah. Yeah. You got to like take some Pyrexes out or do something. Nah, because now I got, I got an induction stove now. It don't even hit the same.
I can't even put the Pyrex on the induction stove. Oh yeah. It's just, it's weird now, man. They trying to get us away from that lifestyle. You know what I mean? Yeah. When I got my new spot, how many years ago? That was like a main thing that I was looking for at each spot.
Chapter 8: What are Jermaine Dupri's plans following the release of the Magic City album?
I had the electric stove for so many spots I was like I need fire yeah definitely it hits different but I mean yeah I gotta make some type of food you could whip up a vegan dish you could at least you could use the measuring cups well I could use the measuring cups sugar yeah just get you back in that zone I don't want to be back in that zone. I just want to hear it. I don't need to be there.
I just want to hear the music. I don't need to be in that zone. Just let me hear some good music. That's it. Do you have a prediction? We've gotten the Travis Scott shots, ran into the fucking ground. Do we think there's going to be any more? Um, I'm hearing Travis, I'm hearing rumors that he may put out a song Thursday night as well to kind of mess with the sales.
Well, did Jack Boy just put out, is that record out with the video or is that just one of those trailer videos? No, I think it's out. Okay. So he's going to put out another record. I can see that. I don't know. Again, this is the clips. They don't care about that type of... They're not playing the same game a lot of these other artists are playing. Like, they don't really care about that.
Do they want to, you know, the project to do well and be received well? Absolutely. But they're not playing these other games. And to your point,
from years ago of when people are dropping on the same days like let's say there's the the Iceman episode two on Friday yeah I'm gonna watch that and then I'm gonna I'm gonna listen to clips I'm going to both will be consumed exactly and I'll probably click the Travis song it won't be my first thing but if I get around to it just to hear what's going on Saturday yeah just to hear what's going on
Like, I'm still going to listen to it. Yeah, yeah. That's why when people try to stay away from, and that's because they want that, you know, they need that number one debut. They want that. But somebody like the Clips, I just don't think at this point in their career, professionally or personally in their lives, I don't think that they're chasing. They don't really care about that.
They just want the music to be received amongst their fan base the same way all of their music has been received. I do want you to listen... On Thursday night, so Monday morning you can come in with a full rendition of The Birds Don't Sing, John Legend Hook. Because that leaked on like one of those Paris fashion shows like two years ago. I play that on YouTube often.
It has like the high Q version. That's the intro. I'm not spilling anything. They said it in interviews. I kind of need the mall version of The Birds Don't Sing, Hook. And I, you know, I know people think I don't like John. I like John Legend. I'm just... I just think that it's a time and place for John Legend. That's all.
As someone that agreed with you on that John Legend take, this is one of the better John Legend hooks I've heard in quite some time. No, that's the one from the show? You know, that song was incredible. I even want to give us a little teaser now. The lyrics are, the birds don't sing.
