Chapter 1: Who is leading the U.S. Open and what are the current scores?
Be the right club. Be the right club today.
Johnny, that's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most!
Expect anything different?
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Lega podcast live show presented, as always, by our friends at Titleist. I am Solly, joined by my esteemed colleague, Mr. Big Randy. Hello, Big. I'm back, boys. Hello. Excited to talk some G. Some G, some dub, some grape, maybe open it up tonight. DJ Pie is here. Hello, DJ. Hello, Solly. Uh, good to be with you, my man. Let's, let's get into it.
Neil was out there today. He is going to be joining us, uh, hopefully here shortly, uh, from, I believe from the media center, uh, there in South Hampton. He was one of three people left on the grounds there. I think by the end of the day, uh, tonight's show brought to you by Titleist and the new GTS drivers. You can find out more about that at Titleist.com.
I cannot say enough great things about these drivers, uh, I'm going to continue to try, but I cannot say enough great things about them. Titleist.com to find out more. GTS driver, get one, get fit, do something. You got to try it. You got to. Deej, set us up. What are we talking about tonight?
Yeah, guys, I think issuing a correction on a previous post of mine, you do got to hand it to him.
You got to hand it to him.
Wyndham Clark is seven under par through 54 holes at the United States Open. Scotty Scheffler, Sahid Tagala, and Tom Kim at one under. Nobody else is under par. Some good news for Wyndham here. In each of the last 27 U.S. Opens, count them. The eventual winner was either leading or within four strokes of the lead at the end of the third round. Nobody is within four shots.

Chapter 2: What did Neil observe on the ground during the U.S. Open?
incredible bunker shot there you know pars 12 makes a great scramble again on 13 like that was where he I saw this out there was like a 5% chance he was going to make all of I think Rick run good tweet that he's going to make 5% chance he was going to make all those putts and he did it man and then has like we thought Scotty had the highlights of the day and Wyndham steps up and hits like the shot of the day into 16 and makes Eagle
Bogey's 18 to make it just a little bit more interesting, and he missed a four-footer for par on 15 to make it not a complete, complete runaway. Let me ask you guys this. DataGolf says 71.6% chance of winning right now. Is that a little low from what you were thinking?
Doesn't that feel low? If you would have asked me what the percentage was, I think I would have said like 80, 85. I mean, it just feels very, very over. I know it's the U.S. Open, but the wind is going to be down tomorrow, it sounds like. Maybe they juice up the whole locations and they make it extra firm, get out and mow and roll those greens and just make them ā
as, you know, spicy as they've been all week. But yeah, I just, he, he, I don't know. It remains compelling, right? Because there were enough moments today starting on the first hole where it's like, he was just a little off. He had a long lag putt. He didn't get it down three putts. The first it's like, ah, it can, it can happen. It can wobble.
And then he just made every single one of those par savers that he ended up that he, that he had to make. But again, you can ask me either way tomorrow. Is he going to have those par savers? Is he going to be in control of his golf ball and limit the damage? Or is he going to keep making those? I don't know what the answer to that question is. I know it can get off the rails.
I just don't think it doesn't look like somebody's going to go shoot 75 and let a bunch of other people back into it tomorrow.
I think that's well said, Deej. I am going back and forth in my mind whether today was Wyndham's quote-unquote didn't hit the ball great, didn't have his A game, and not only did he survive it, but to post around...
um an even par 70 is fabulous six shot lead uh or are we starting to see some cracks and as you said is he going to be able to keep saving par like we saw him today man that was such a big stretch not i mean bones called it out to 9 10 11 uh the saver on 13 2. you know, two over there, who knows what his mindset is going. He makes birdie on 14. You guys mentioned the Eagle on 16.
Does that still happen if he's riding the bogey train? You know, that, that, that, that seemed critical. Um, I don't know. This is such an interesting course because if you're just off a little bit, it can be gas leak tomorrow for him. And he can go out and make four bogeys on the front, and it's like, holy shit, we got a golf tournament.

Chapter 3: How did Wyndham Clark perform during the tournament?
You're playing with the number one player in the world. So I'm excited. Listen, it's like in my mind, he's got a 50% chance. He's either going to win or he's not going to win. And it's going to be interesting one way or another.
Yeah, we didn't really mention who he's paired with tomorrow, which is Scotty after just not a lot of juice out there. And we can talk about that as we get into it. But there was juice when Scotty was playing that 14, 15, 16 stretch. I mean, that was... I did get electric. The guy is going for the Grand Slam. It's his birthday. Randy, I know you're a huge birthday guy. It's Father's Day.
It's like...
there is a bit of a man in 20 years like could i see the do you remember when scotty roared back and wanted shinnok documentary like yeah man i could see that uh it felt like that for a little while there right right yeah yeah it's so i i am pulled a little bit on that one where i'm like i can see that happening that that the uh that the movie fan in me really likes that idea but i'm the guy who's been watching golf for three days
It's like, ah, it just feels like Wyndham's going to go shoot like 71 and just win this thing. But we'll see. It's why they play the game, Sully. That's right.
We need just like one super clownish pin, like a Phil running after a ball, like one opportunity that, you know, half the groups are like six putting this one pin, volcano hole, can Wyndham hole it on that one? Maybe Scottie just runs one in and then Wyndham five putts it. That's our best chance at it.
How great was it to have that moment on 10 today?
I was going to say, you've got to give him credit for hitting that shot on 10.
Totally. Such a cool chip. Seeing the variety of different shots people played into that, I don't know if that's what you were going to say as well, but seeing Xander throw it up high, seeing Rory try to throw it up high, seeing Wyndham bang it into the hill was really cool. It kind of showed a little bit how the golf course has changed over the last couple days, too.

Chapter 4: What challenges did the players face on the course today?
So there's no denying that. I think it's a very good point that Solly says. He took advantage Thursday, but then he sustained it. To back it up with a 69 Friday, 70 today, we saw many guys in that Thursday afternoon twilight that gave it all back and then some on Friday. So honestly, there's like...
There's a... It's like both a slight crowning for him to be here, but also he will have earned it if he closes this tomorrow. I just... it's getting to be tip-your-cap territory. If he goes out and shoots another 70, it's like, dude, you're not doing anything. I know we can talk about the historical stuff later. I think Scotty is worth mentioning. Saul, you said nobody's going to shoot a 65.
God, our guy had a look at 66 today. I mean, if he can cash that 15-footer for Eagle on 16, I don't know how long, not super long par putt on 17. Six feet, 11 inches.
That was tough.
Six feet and then missed like a three-and-a-half footer, not the easiest putt on 18 for Birdie. So, yeah, Scottie could have been up there at two, three under par, and this would have been, I think, a little bit different mindset for Wyndham tomorrow. But alas.
The crowning part for Wyndham can't be more than two total shots. And that would be the extreme end to say he was the benefit of a two-shot swing. And the numbers would not support that, but I'm saying the way it worked out, the actual part of the draw, the part of the course he was on, maximum two shots. And he's leading by six. So...
Put a little, you know, if he ends up winning by a shot, I think it could be a crime. Maybe, maybe, but that's also five shots. I don't think you can call it.
I can't believe I got to be the guy to say, we don't get to simulate the golf here, guys. You got to play it on the golf course and the conditions that are given to you.
Well, speaking of the golf course and the conditions that we, we saw it there. Should we, should we bring in our guy, the beluga? He looks frozen to me. I don't know. Is he frozen? Oh, God. Do we have a Harry Higgs situation? Hold on a second. I got to fix my camera. All right. We can hear you. You just wave when you're ready to come in, big dog. All right. I'll give you.

Chapter 5: What are the predictions for tomorrow's final round?
And, guys, there just wasn't. So I started my day on seven. I was looking for high carnage areas, HCAs. So I started on seven, saw Scotty hit an excellent, excellent shot into seven. Didn't look like he paid off the birdie, but the best one I've seen there this week. And then I followed up Alex Fitzpatrick, who impressed me with his ball striking and just kind of the ā
Great swing, like super limber. You know, I was kind of I never watched him play live. I was really impressed with him. And then he makes a mess on 11, three putts from like 18 feet. World class muttering. Sally, I thought you'd appreciate that coming off the green shittiest, shittiest golf hole in the world. Just all pissed off about number 11 after he hit like a great shot in there.
I like that guy. And then he's walking off 12 and he's muttering. No, he's just pissed. You know, he's just like, like all these guys, he's trying to blame everything, but like, yo man, you just three putted. It's all good. Um, but he's, I think the highlight of my day early was I, I stood on behind 12 T it is like, it's the Pavarotti zone. Deej just turn action everywhere.
You got 10 green down below. You turn it up. You got 11 full view. And then 12 T you can watch them bomb it with the wind coming off the left. It is the spot to watch golf.
Yeah.
If you're looking at it, the left side of the grandstand next to 12T, that's the Pavarotti spot. Get there early because that's the HCA. And I thought 11 was going to be ā there wasn't a lot of carnage there. It was playing as the fourth-hardest hole. A lot of bogeys, but no real accidents. I watched probably 16 or 17 shots come into 10.
Did anybody hit the green on 10 today, or did every single player go long?
Alex Fitzpatrick hit it. He was the only guy I saw stop that two-hop shot. nippy 50-yard shot, and he paid it off with a birdie. Everybody else, long. Sam Burns, Keith Mitchell, Rory, Windham. And pretty much everybody but Windham made bogey. Xander made double. He actually... His third out of the bunker rolled over the green, and then he hit a really bad chip.
JT hit an awful chip from back there.

Chapter 6: What insights do the hosts share about the course conditions?
On a firm green, everybody that got, like, onto the upslope, like where Rory drove it to, all those guys, no one hit the green from down there. And if you look at the spray chart of, like, where the birdies would come from, they were all coming from farther back. You know, even if you're hitting a 75-yard shot, I think is around how far Scottie had in from there, you can hit it.
45 50 yards in the air with some spin instead of like rory having to hit a ball you know 30 yards in the air and trying to hold it with spin just was not possible so well that that chip is so much more tim that hill gets so much bigger the farther indie you get you know and i know it's tough to leave it up on the hill it's really moundy up there so you might have like 180 yards in so
But if you try to hit an iron and, hey, if it goes down the hill, no big deal. You have Scottie's shot. You have a 75-yard shot. I just think it gives you a little bit of breathing room. At least that's kind of what the eye test told me, Randy.
They need that speed shot from 11 Aronomic into the bank and skirt it up there and get it up there and do it.
So I stayed there, watched probably the last seven groups come through, and then I picked up the final pairing, and it was a ghost town. It was eerie. It was kind of fascinating. I mean, actively... You know, there was a lot of bad day to be a locker, Wyndham. You know, a lot of locker call-outs from the various grandstands. But, God, Wyndham just continued to chip his titties off.
I mean, no nipple nash, guys. It was unreal. Like, the bunker shot on 11. The chip on 10 we talked about. Bunker shot on 11. The whole deal on 13. Yeah. I mean, he thought about it for a while but decided to wail on driver and, you know, bad swing. And to make that ā cash that putt on 13, I was just like, whoa. And then he ā you know, and then great pin for him with his fade on 14.
But the shot on 16 felt like a little bit of deja vu from LACC. I feel like the whole day felt like deja vu. You know, just like carved a ā like 275. And nobody clapped. It was crazy. Yeah.
It's one of the weirdest moments I can remember. The guy who's leading by five, the guy who's suffocating the open, hits it to four feet from 275, and it feels like it's Thursday at like the 3M. I mean, it's like... You know what? It felt like a USAM for a US junior. Yeah. I feel like that's on the booth. That's on the crowd. That's on just... I don't know.
I think everybody just kind of had their wind out of their sails. I got a text from one buddy who's not a Wyndham fan. Said today was spiritually draining. It was like a medieval bloodletting. And I think by that point, everybody was just kind of out of it. It's like, oh, hold on. Look at that. He's still doing it.

Chapter 7: How did the broadcast coverage impact the viewing experience?
And then, you know, then you got to take the subway. The last mile logistics, Randy, that's what gets you.
Are there bathrooms on that thing either? Yeah.
There are bathrooms on the LIR, yes. And it's not unpleasant. The train is the move. It's just not going to be ā Is it just stopping all the time? Is that why it takes so long? I think this one is an express to ā I don't know, but I'm guessing it probably stops in Farmingdale and some of the ā like Manhasset, some of the bigger stations.
And then from there, there's like ā they have express lines, but ā It's just, you know, it's mental energy, Randy. You got to read the signs. You got to make sure you're on the right train. Like that's, you know, everybody's got dinner reservations. It's Saturday night in the big city. Come on.
Neil, what's the, I mean, you said some of the bad day to be a locker stuff, but what's the general vibe around Wyndham? I mean, does it feel like a, does it feel like a Ryder Cup out there? Is it not that bad? Is it just kind of flat? What is the... guys leading the U S open by six. And I don't really remember an energy quite like this.
There was good energy on 11. Like people were a lot of, uh, uh, crowd action on just, you know, balls rolling off late. Like Xander's took like 15 seconds to roll into the bunker, which was really fun. Um, God, Norgaard was in jail like 30 yards over 11. He putted it up to like stone dead at like two feet, taps it in for par, and then he legit threw the ball like 40 yards into the stands.
People were chuffed with that one. So that little pocket was, you know, was vibey. And then, yeah, it just got kind of like ā on 16 ā before Wyndham made his Eagle, some guy just bellows, you suck Wyndham. Like, it's just like, all you can hear generators and like the, the L I R R horn. That's the only other noise. I'm like, that's tough. You know, I don't like that. That's tough. It's like,
So the general vibe and there was a good enough, you know, let's go windy, you know, like everybody's stupid in the gallery when they're when they're yelling. But he had some support, but it was very muted. Let me put it that way. I said he got a single digit claps coming up 18. And a robust cheer when he missed the four-foot, 10-inch par putt. That would be how I would sum it up.
So it was very interesting. Yeah, here's a shot of the scene at 18. I mean, again, the light, the sky, the environment, it's just absolutely gorgeous. It's just nobody there.

Chapter 8: What are the featured groups and tee times for the final round?
Just keeping it, Randy. Just keeping it nice and loose down the fairway. You know, probably talking. How's the girlfriend?
I saw him getting the shoulders back behind him a few times.
So I think he's got a real ā you know, experience in this moment. So he's, they have a plan and the two of them are executing a plan. It does kind of feel like them against, you know, the world a little bit. And, uh, I think he feeds off that a little bit, I think, which guys, we don't have any villains anymore. Like,
you know, everybody else is pretty like, you know, uh, they took their ball and went elsewhere. So like, it's kind of nice to have somebody that, that, that, you know, it makes people feel something positive or negative.
It's not really like a fun villain. Like Bryson's a fun villain, you know? And like, uh, even P is like, I don't know. This is like the lower left quadrant of entertainment value and likability, whereas P and Bryson and Phil and all of them, if they were involved, they'd be like, holy shit, this is going to be fun tomorrow no matter what happens. This one is just kind of like, man.
Is it worth unpacking that a little?
Sorry. Go ahead, Randy.
Oh, I was just going to ask, is it worth unpacking that a little or do you want to save it for tomorrow, assuming he wins? We all know about the Oakmont. He trashed an old locker at Oakmont. But for the life of me, I was thinking, what else has this guy really done for everybody to hate him?
That's kind of where I'm at. I think everybody hates runaways. I think not everybody. There are certain golf fans who are just like, this is not my shit. I don't like the hard slap cut. I don't like that he only hits the ball. Physically can only hit the ball one way. I don't like that he keeps getting away with it. He bombs it, and he makes putts. It's not the most exciting thing to watch.
