Guys, only the ninth time that we've seen this. A true wire-to-wire winner of the U.S. Open. Someone who led outright after all four rounds. You probably remember the last one was Martin Keimer at Pinehurst. Some other BDPs on that list. Rory did it at Congressional. Tiger's done it twice. It's kind of baller. Tony Jacklin's done it. Ben Hogan's done it. Jim Barnes has done it. Walter Hagen's done it. And now Wyndham Clark has done it. A one-shot victory. at Shinnecock. He's tied for the fourth fastest route to two U.S. Open titles. Only a sixth U.S. Open. He's won two of them in six starts. That's impressive. Him, Trevino, and Brooks Koepka each won their second U.S. Open in their sixth start. And importantly, because I think it sets the tone for today, he is only the second player in 10 years to hold the 54-hole lead at the U.S.
Open and shoot three over or worse. The other one of of course, is Sam Burns last year. So a topical stat there because I think it sets the table for what we saw. We saw some not good golf today. We saw some great golf from the other groups. Did we see Shinnecock be Shinnecock? I want to ask you guys about that. But, Sully, I'll start with you. Just Wyndham Clark, two-time major champion. What's going through your head right now?
The extreme positive side, if I'm bending over backwards here, would be, I mean, it's not an incredible comeback in an adversity story, but it is remarkable to think about where he left the state of his game, state of his mental state, leaving Oakmont last year to now coming back and winning this year. Like I thought the guy was done. I never thought we were going to hear from him again. Flash in the pan. Crazy that he had this run. I don't really know what you'd compare it to, but didn't last that long. He's had one great year and was kind of back to being mediocre. I didn't see this coming. I don't think a lot of people saw this coming back. It's a remarkable, remarkable story in that regard.
