How did Tom Kim win the Genesis Scottish Open with a final-round 64?

Ed Gamble 0:01
Be the right club today. That's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most.

Expect anything.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up podcast. Solly here. We are going to be recapping the Scottish Open, the Evian Championship, a teeny tiny peek ahead to the Open Championship this coming week. Joined by my esteemed colleagues, Mr. Big Randy. Hello, Big. How are you? Happy Sunday.
Ed Gamble 0:46
Yeah, happy Sunday to you. We're doing this a little early. Love these British and European events finishing. So excited to get going here, Solly. Thanks for having me on your program again.
Cecil Baldwin 0:58
Maybe that is part of the reason why we have such good spirits around the Scottish Open and the Open Championship. We get Sunday nights with our families. TC is here. Hello, TC.
Big Randy 1:06
You guys are giving the ISCO short shrift. You know, they just teed off. They're in Louisville. And my guy, ZJ, is going for a senior major this afternoon and this evening as well. So, I mean, Randy, we got big golf going on tonight too.
Ed Gamble 1:23
That's true. That's true. Thank you.
Cecil Baldwin 1:25
There will be plenty to watch here, but a chance for us to put a recording in the can here. As mentioned, we also have a three-way tie currently on the Korn Ferry Tour. Matthew Anderson, Noah Goodwin, and Tommy Morrison tied at something called the Blue Championship, which is just coming across my desk. Is that the one in Colorado? it is tpc colorado that's right uh lucas glover is leading the isco as we speak and as you mentioned zj is lucky uh to lock down the uh the calling companies championship which is a major like i it's the senior players okay it will be moving away from firestone it's the last tour event at firestone possibly ever after like 72 years or something like that but uh we've been beating up ohio the last few weeks
Cecil Baldwin 2:12
They have a lot of majors. Major inflation is getting out of control, guys. On that note, Hayden, you win the Monday Evian Championship, back-to-back major championships for her. We're going to talk about that. But, of course, Tom Kim wins. Wins the Scottish Open, the Genesis Scottish Open. A quick run-through of Tom Kim's equipment setup. He plays the Pro-V 1X golf ball. He loves the higher flight. He gets with it, feels like he controls, spin more with his irons with the X. It's now 12 wins for Titleist golf ball players over the last 13 weeks on the PGA Tour. We say this like every week, and it... It doesn't get any less amazing. It's also another win for new GTS drivers. Tom Kim has the GTS3 model, gave him a ton of spin consistency and more speed than his previous gamer.
Cecil Baldwin 2:59
Also one of over 65 players on the PGA Tour who has made the move to the new GTS drivers. He's also got a GTS 3-wood and 5-wood in the bag, and from there he goes into his T200 Utility and a full set of T100 irons. He's got three Vokey wedges and a Scotty Cameron Newport 2-style blade putter. You've got to love that TC guy still in a blade putter. Titleist.com to find a fitting near you. Get your setup dialed like our guy, my guy, TC's guy, Tom Kim.
Big Randy 3:30
Sully, I will say, I was impressed with the height that he got on the approach shot into 10. He had a tree between him and the hole, and they were asking, like, oh, man, he's got tree trouble. He's going to have to go around this. And he hit it 200 yards, probably 30 feet over this tree. Like, no issues whatsoever. And I was like, damn, I didn't know Tom Kim got down like that.
Cecil Baldwin 3:55
The only way we can get TC to pay Tom Kim a compliment is if it's tied in with a sponsor, so I appreciate that, TC. He's right.
Big Randy 4:03
Dude, he might be the Lynx master.
Cecil Baldwin 4:05
He's got some interesting stuff. Let's break down the day here. So fog delays on Saturday forced, you know, obviously delays, and it led to some early golf on Sunday to finish round three. It was a jam-packed leaderboard game. Start the day kind of a, you know, kind of a dull finish, but it was very jam packed start the day. Bob McIntyre, Min Woo Lee and Matt Fitzpatrick were all tied for the lead to start round four. Tom Kim was one back. Rory started T26 after a disappointing third round 73.
