Two weeks later, a pilot helping fight a different large wildfire died in a helicopter crash. Though Colorado's largest fires have significantly calmed, new blazes have continually sparked across the parched landscape. Monsoon weather is helping crews, but most of the state remains in a serious drought. For NPR News, I'm Steena Sieg in Grand Junction, Colorado.
India's education minister has tendered his resignation, meeting a key demand of student-led protesters who've been demonstrating across the country in the most serious challenge in years to the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. NPR's Diya Hadid reports.
Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation was met with joy among protesters. But protest leaders said students had two more demands. Action against police who attacked thousands of protesters trying to march onto Parliament on Monday. And compensation to the families of students who died by suicide after learning they would have to retake a medical entry exam after the Education Ministry cancelled the results of the initial test in May, saying some questions were leaked. That leak was a trigger for these protests. With the minister's resignation, it's unclear if protest leaders will be able to maintain momentum against the government or whether this emboldened students to make more demands of the government, which tried to ignore them for weeks.

This is NPR News. Belgian authorities have arrested a woman on suspicion of spying at NATO's military headquarters. She's described as a Canadian of Chinese origin who worked as an intern at the headquarters. Only about one in eight nurses in the United States is a man, but efforts to make the profession more gender-neutral are taking hold. Helped along by a favorable job market, NPR's Andrea Hsu reports.
With nurses in high demand, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has worked for years to bring more men into its nursing school. Faculty there also know that in some cases, male patients respond better to health care workers who look like them. Nursing student Connor Adderholt says it was seeing how nurses tended to his grandmother after a stroke that cemented his desire to become one himself.
It made me realize this is what I want to do, to deal with these tough situations that people have to deal with, to be that calm in the storm.
Good news for students. The Labor Department projects steady job growth for nurses over the next decade, and the jobs pay well.
