Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Officials at Joint Base Maguire Dix Lakehurst have not received orders to prepare space for a federal immigration detention center. That's according to two congressmen who visited the military base in New Jersey. As Kenneth Burns of Member Station WHYY reports, the visit comes after Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth notified the Congressman that he authorized the base for use by ICE.
Hexeth informed New Jersey Democrats Her Conway and Donald Norcross last week of the move. Conway's district includes the base.
