Why are Palestinian workers employed in Israeli settlements despite ongoing violence?
A new UN report shows that Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank are at a record level, but many Palestinians continue to work at Israeli settlements and factories, NPR's Frank Lankfit reports.
Many Palestinian factory workers say they don't like working for any aspect of the Israeli occupation, but they say they have no other choice. The West Bank economy's so bad Palestinians take jobs with Israelis because they pay so much more than jobs in their villages. Sucker is twenty nine and works in the cleaning department of a factory. He asked us not to use his last name out of concern for his job. I'm forced to do this despite feeling humiliated, he tells me. I need to have work for my family. Palestinian workers also told me that their Israeli bosses oppose settler attacks on Palestinians and mostly treat their Palestinian employees well. Frank Lankfit, NPR News, in the Occupied West Bank.
