Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump hosted a state dinner at the White House Thursday night for Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Earlier in the day, the two held much anticipated meetings, and NPR's Emily Fang reports on Taiwan being the top issue for China.

The two sides have also been negotiating trade and technology issues, including what the U.S. says is a two-month extension on an agreement to access Chinese rare earth elements.
