But the calm did not last long. An airstrike like this one overnight hit the Abdelal family home without warning, killing 18 people there and injuring more than 70, according to hospital records. The military says it was targeting a Hamas militant who posed a threat, but they didn't name the target or response to NPR's inquiry for more information. Israeli drones, artillery and gunfire have resumed around Gaza City. The military says the city remains under an evacuation order. And the city is still cut off from the south as displaced families wait for real ceasefire to return home.
