Chapter 1: What are the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks?
Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. European Union leaders are urgently holding meetings to discuss President Trump's latest proposal for peace between Russia and Ukraine. As Terry Schultz reports, there will be a round of talks including European, U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Geneva on Sunday.
In a joint response to President Trump's 28-point plan to settle Russia's war on Ukraine, the EU, plus several European leaders, Canada and Japan, called the proposal a draft which will require additional work. The group met on the sidelines of the G20 in Johannesburg.
Chapter 2: What were the outcomes of the COP30 climate talks in Brazil?
Their statement reiterated the principle that borders must not be changed by force and expresses concern about the Trump plan's proposed limitations on Ukraine's armed forces, which it says would leave Ukraine vulnerable to future attack. It also emphasizes that any agreement that affects the EU and NATO would require consent from the multinational organizations. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz.
Negotiators at the COP30 climate talks in Brazil were unable to reach a formal agreement on phasing out the worldwide use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are a main driver in rising world temperatures. The talks ended Saturday with only modest progress in efforts to slow global warming.
Chapter 3: How is Israel responding to recent Hamas attacks in Gaza?
Jasper Inventor with Greenpeace International says it was a crushing blow.
What we also saw at the start of this COP is that there's this high level of ambition. You know, we started with a bang. but we entered with a whimper of disappointment.
The U.S. was not involved in the talks after the Trump administration refused to send an official delegation to Brazil.
Chapter 4: What led to Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation from Congress?
Israel launched new airstrikes against Hamas militants in Gaza this weekend. Health officials say at least 24 people have been killed in the attacks and 54 were wounded. Israel's prime minister says five senior Hamas members were killed. Israel says it launched the strikes after an armed terrorist crossed into an Israeli-held area in southern Gaza and shot at troops.
No soldiers were hurt in that incident. President Trump is reacting to one-time stalwart supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene's decision to quit Congress. As NPR's Amy Held reports, Greene says she's looking forward to a new path ahead.
Chapter 5: How did Haiti's national football team make history recently?
Not long after Greene and Congressman Thomas Massey helped lead fellow Republicans to defy Trump in a sweeping vote to release the Epstein files, she announced she's leaving Congress. President Trump spoke about it Saturday.
She started backing perhaps the worst Republican congressman in our history, this stupid person named Massey, and... I said, go your own way. And once I left her, she resigned because she would never have survived a primary. But I think she's a nice person.
Sworn into office just three days before the January 6th insurrection, Greene is resigning from Congress five years later. A special election will be called to replace her in Georgia's conservative 14th district. Amy Held, NPR News.
And you're listening to NPR News. Haiti is living through one of its darkest periods right now, but this week something extraordinary broke through the tension when the men's national football team qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 52 years. Harold Isaac reports from Port-au-Prince.
For a few hours on Tuesday evening, Haiti felt different. Haitians poured out of their homes in thousands, celebrating a historic moment. The national team, the Grenadiers, are headed to the World Cup.

Chapter 6: What updates are there on Rodney Rogers and Trump's golf course plans?
the Grenadiers sealed their qualification with a 2-0 win over Nicaragua, becoming the first team ever to reach the World Cup without hosting a single home game. Gangs have turned much of Port-au-Prince into a war zone, forcing the squad to train abroad. Players posted emotional videos pleading with gangs and politicians to let them return home safely.
Still, for a nation battered by crisis, the moment feels sacred. For NPR News, I'm Harold Isaac in Port-au-Prince.
Former Wake Forest basketball star and 12-year NBA player Rodney Rogers is tied. He was 54 years old. Rogers was known as the Durham Bull. He scored almost 9,500 points during his NBA career. He'd been paralyzed from the shoulders down since an accident in 2008. President Trump says legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus is going to oversee a facelift of the golf courses at Joint Base Andrews.
The military base has long been a favorite golfing spot for past presidents because it's so close to the White House. Trump did not say, however, just where the money will come from for any redesign and improvements to those courses. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.
