Support for NPR comes from NPR member stations and Eric and Wendy Schmidt through the Schmidt Family Foundation, working toward a healthy, resilient, secure world for all. It is unfathomable that there are young children who are harmed, that there is anybody who is harmed in this, and our hearts go out to those victims, to their families, and to our community.

Brent says it's possible that the shooting was targeting someone at the family gathering, but detectives are still working to try and establish a motive. The FDA says it's planning to take a tougher approach to regulating vaccines, and as NPR's Rob Stein reports, officials claim they've uncovered new evidence questioning the safety of the COVID-19 shots.

54.509 - 77.085 Marty McCary

FDA Commissioner Marty McCary says the agency will require much stricter evidence that vaccines are safe and effective. McCary says the new approach was prompted by evidence that the deaths of at least 10 children were caused by the COVID vaccines. McCary's top deputy, Vinay Prasad, made that claim in an email distributed Friday.

NPR obtained the email after it was reported by other news organizations. Independent public health experts, however, questioned the claim that the COVID vaccines caused these deaths, citing the administration's pattern of making unsupported and misleading claims. Rob Stein, NPR News.

Hondurans will head to the polls Sunday to elect a new president, and President Trump is getting involved. NPR's Ada Peralta has more on that story.

105.753 - 122.259 Ed Peralta

In a post-Untruth Social, President Trump endorsed conservative Tito Asfura for president, and he also said he would issue a pardon to former President Juan Orlando Hernández. Hernández was convicted of drug trafficking in a federal court in the United States, and he was also implicated in huge corruption scandals at home.

Chapter 2: What happened in the Stockton shooting incident?

122.74 - 141.497 Ed Peralta

Asfura took the National Party reins from Hernández, and he lost to a leftist candidate in 2021. In his post, Trump threatened to pull USA to Honduras if Asfura doesn't win. The most recent polls show three candidates are in a dead heat for the presidency. Ed Peralta, NPR News, Mexico City.

Russian military forces launched more drones and missiles overnight at Ukraine. Officials say at least three people were killed in those attacks and 20 and other people were injured. Areas around the capital city of Kyiv were the heaviest damaged in the attack. In Russia, meanwhile, a major oil terminal stopped operations after strikes by unmanned boats damaged a mooring point at that terminal.

Black Friday was a financial hit this year. According to numbers from Adobe Analytics, which tracks online commerce, Americans spent a record $11.8 billion online. That's a 9.1% increase over last year. Consumers also spent a record $6.4 million online on Thanksgiving Day. Foot traffic to physical stores, meanwhile, was down by 3.6% from last year. This is NPR News.

The Des Moines International Airport closed Saturday night after a Delta jet slid off the runway while landing. Officials say no one was injured. The accident was caused by snow falling in the Midwest. A major storm is moving through the region at this hour. In northern Iowa, eight inches of snow was on the ground by Saturday morning.

It's officially Christmas music season, and if you need proof, the music is now on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, as NPR's Isabella Gomez Sarmiento reports.

223.034 - 245.717 Isabella Gomez-Sarmiento

She's back. Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You has entered the top 10. The holiday classic reclaimed its rightful spot near the top of the charts this week, currently sitting at number 8. But Mariah's not alone. Another holiday hit follows close behind at number 11.

Chapter 3: What new regulations is the FDA considering for vaccines?

249.022 - 269.224 Isabella Gomez-Sarmiento

It's Wham's Last Christmas. Also steadily climbing the Hot 100 chart, Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree comes in at number 13. It may not be December yet, but all signs point to a triumphant 2025 run for holiday classics. Isabella Gomez-Sarmiento, NPR News.

Planners of the Winter Olympics in Italy next year say there are no backup plans if the event's ice hockey arena isn't open in time. Construction is behind schedule, and the first test event for the ice won't even take place until early January. The first Olympics game at the main hockey arena is for the women's preliminary round that begins on February 5th. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.
