Chapter 2: What recent coaching changes are impacting the Edmonton Oilers?
He said, as of this moment at 11.37 a.m., Chris Knobloch has not been fired by the Edmonton Oilers. We're expecting this to happen likely by day's end. This on the heels of a Frank Cervalli report a couple days ago, which basically stated the following. Let's see here. Let's do it. League sources say this from yesterday morning.
League sources say the owners have sought permission to interview Bruce Cassidy as they contemplate significant coaching staff changes. To this point, sources say the Golden Knights have withheld permission from division rival. Gamesmanship perhaps mostly unprecedented for role. And again, we have had...
Uh, yeah, we've not heard, uh, anything further as of, uh, 536, uh, regarding the orders coaching situation. Let's bring aboard John Shannon for legacy heating and cooling, whether it's heating or cooling, you need to get with no payments, no interest for a year. That's a build a legacy, legacy heating and cooling. Hello, John. How you doing? Hey, Bob, how are you?
Oh, you sound like you're fighting a cold. A little bit of laryngitis, too much talk about Vancouver and Toronto. Yes, well, this show's called Oilers Now. Lots of talk about the Oilers and not a particularly fun day, I'll be honest with you. The last couple of days have been tough.
But Stan Bowman did say, and he did the first availability, you know, the end of the year after the Oilers were beaten in six. And people had pretty strong commentary at that time. Many people thought the Oilers were outcoached in that series by Joel Quenville and Jay Woodcroft.
Of course, I would argue that there was also significant challenges at center with the injuries to McDavid, Dreisaitl, Dickinson, and Henrique getting knocked out of the series. Some people said, stop or you're making excuses. Anyhow, Stan Bowman did say, hey, evaluation process is going to take place.
People should not forget that the Oilers requested permission to talk to the Rangers, to talk to Chris Knobloch when Jay Woodcroft was still coaching the team. Sure. This happens, but it doesn't often happen in the offseason. Anyways, your thoughts on all of this?
Well, what really has happened, I think, across the country is that we're now at a point in the hockey season where there are less Canadian teams involved, so the focus gets away from the Stanley Cup playoffs. and goes back to the teams that people are in distress about, whether it be the Leafs, the Canucks or the Oilers. And so, you know, the guys in Edmonton are following the news in Edmonton.
And I think that that's exactly what's happening. And there's a lot of focus, as there was in Vancouver, with the announcement that will probably come tomorrow. But there's a lot of focus on what the Oilers have to do, particularly after Stan's comments and Connor and Leon's comments. And you're going to have to deal with them somehow.

Chapter 3: How did injuries affect the Oilers' playoff performance?
You know, and I'm a huge Spencer Carberry fan. I think Spencer Carberry's a brilliant coach. Yeah. Great communicator. But when he was here, like most clubs, he wasn't even allowed to do interviews. So you never knew he existed. And that's, I mean, that's how Dan Mews got the job in Pittsburgh. He wasn't allowed to do interviews for the Rangers.
And so next thing you know, Kyle found him and made him a head coach in Pittsburgh, and he did pretty darn well.
It is.
interesting because you mentioned Pittsburgh and they let the Rangers hire Mike Sullivan and he you're right there was no are you surprised that the the Vegas Golden Knights to this point and we don't have any update today but it is I know Elliott Freeman reported you know as of late last night that Vegas is not allowed for permission to interview with Bruce Cassidy you surprised that that hasn't been a lot
I probably should say yes, but then again, I would say no. I think George and Kelly run their operation differently than any other team. They know the Oilers are a rival in the division. They know Bruce is a really good coach. And I'm not sure that they want to fuel the fire of Edmonton, Las Vegas.
one more way uh other than on the ice so uh it doesn't surprise me i've actually sent a couple of texts looking for clarification myself and i haven't heard anything back uh which tells me that you know frank was bang on with what he was talking about Yeah, it's interesting stuff.
Very quickly, Vancouver. Ryan Johnson with the Sedins?
Yeah. Daniel and Henrik will be named co-presidents, and Ryan Johnson will be the general manager. Ryan Johnson's a good hockey guy. Been in the organization 11 years. Learned a lot.
Evan Gold was in the mix, but what really changed it was when Daniel and Henrik became interested in the job, because Daniel and Henrik have been working alongside Ryan for the last eight years at Abbotsford and in the Canucks system. And there's a real belief that the twins will bring a great deal of stability to an organization that hasn't had much recently.

Chapter 4: What criticisms have been directed at the Oilers' coaching staff?
So anyways, what else you got? You know, you're going to be continuing to monitor this over the next couple hours. What else you got?
Yeah, we will. We'll navigate that. We'll check in with Sportsnet's Luke Fox at 635. Obviously, Toronto's got a lot going on. And just so too, there's the hockey world. So. That'll be a good conversation in the first hour of the show, excuse me. Elks offensive lineman coach Stephen Sorrells will jump aboard at 7.05, have the conversation about training camp there.
And then in the final half hour of the show, we'll leave things open for some talks, some texts, and try and revisit our Inside Sports fan code of conduct.
All right. Good stuff. That's with Brendan Escott coming up. Zach Ferguson has an 880 News weather traffic update. Thank you to Kellan Kennedy, Eamon Hashim, and Aidan Gannon for helping us out. And thank you to all of you for texting us on the Ashley Fine Forest text line. We will have an interactive segment or two on tomorrow's edition of Orders Now. So long.
