Chapter 1: What are the Edmonton Oilers' playoff prospects ahead of the game against the Colorado Avalanche?
Hey, it's Bob Stauffer. I just wanted to let you know that you can listen to Oilers Now ad-free on Amazon Music, included with Prime. This is Oilers Now on 880-CHED for our friends at World of Spas. We are a nice district at Rogers Place where the Edmonton Oilers take on the league's best team. They are the Colorado Avalanche. The Oilers are in the playoffs.
Some might argue they backdoored their way in, losing a hard-fought 1-0 game in Los Angeles. We've got lots of topics to talk about just from that game alone.
But the Edmonton Oilers are in a spot where if they win their final two games against tonight Colorado, which will not be an easy task, and against Vancouver, they're going to play the best team in the league and the worst in the next two games. But if Edmonton wins those two games, no matter what, The Oilers will open up at home in round one of the playoffs.
And it is still possible that if they win both games and Vegas drops a point, that the Edmonton Oilers, in theory, would be in a situation where they'd come in top spot in the Pacific Division, winning a divisional title for the first time since 1987. Of course, the Oilers would win Stanley Cups in 88 and 1990. Beatle a Stanley Cup three more times in 06 and, of course, in 24 and 25.

Well, we will tell you that the Oilers got a little bit of an update on a multitude of fronts injury-wise, which is actually we're going to go fairly quickly into our injury report for James H. Brown and Associates Alberta Injury Lawyers. The heavy hitters of injury law, Trent Brown, heavy hitter in the CFL football days with the then-named Edmonton Eskimos, a two-time All-Star and a great cop.
Leon Dreisaitl was on the ice today. He's on LTIR with a lower body injury. Uncertain as to when Dreisaitl returns, the hope is for the start of the playoffs. Zach Hyman was back on the ice today, too.

Chapter 3: How did the Oilers perform in their recent game against the LA Kings?
He's been out, missed a few games in a row here. I think 100% he plays the opening game of the playoffs. Do not have an update and clarity on Jason Dickinson. Chris Knobloch spoke today, and he will miss the final two games after getting hit with a puck in the leg. No timeline given to Jason Dickinson. Max Jones tried to make a hit Saturday in L.A.
He is going to be out, I believe Chris said, three weeks. Of course, Janmark is out as well with shoulder surgery of interest. And we'll get to this when we do the game day lineup report. Spencer Stashny was off the ice fairly quickly today. Made me wonder whether or not there might be a tweak with one of the D as well. As the Oilers get ready to take on the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche will not have Kale McCarr. nor Josh Manson, no Nazem Qadri. Qadri has a finger injury. McCarr is expected to play tomorrow in Calgary. He is with the team. Manson and Qadri did not travel. So that gives you a bit of an update on the injury front because it is a big part of the storyline tonight. All righty. The Oilers took on the LA Kings as we head into the Oilers now.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the officiating in the Oilers' recent games?
Cute selection, low prices at Direct Workwear. It's the last game of the road trip. The Edmonton Oilers take on the LA Kings. Eckel over to Bouchard. Bouchard lost it. Panarin's got a breakaway. Panarin comes in. The shot scores. Artemi Panarin goes glove side and makes it 1-0 Los Angeles. Oh, that's not a great play.
Evan Bouchard tried to make a move with a blue line and he got outfoxed by Artemi Panarin, sometimes you got to take the easy play. Well, Evans got to get him one back after that.
To the blue line, nurse shot, the save, the rebound, just rolls to the goal line and knocked away to McDavid. Over to the left side, save made by Forsberg off of Savoy. They'll cover it up, McDavid gets into it right in front of that Kings net. Corner to Nugent Hopkins. He'll come up. He'll give it to Roslevic. What a save made by Forsberg.
Chapter 5: How is the Oilers' lineup changing for the game against the Avalanche?
Roslevic got the pass in the slot. He one-timered it. Forsberg snared it with the glove. Clark comes to the middle. Moore gets it across. Oh, what a save made by Ingram. What a chance for Byfield. And Connor Ingram got across. Got it with a blocker. To the slot.
Chapter 6: What strategies do the Oilers need to employ to beat the Avalanche?
To Kempe. Kempe on the right. Damage it off. Wow! What a stop by Ingram on the one-timer from Edmondson. Now Nugent Hopkins will give it to Nurse. A shot. Partially deflected wide from the angle. The same by Forsberg as Frederick followed the play up. Forsberg made the save.
Chapter 7: What insights does Oilers head coach Chris Knobloch provide about the matchup?
It's over. 1-0 the final. The Kings defeat the Edmonton Oilers as everybody's gathered up against the boards inside the Kings zone.
All right, there you go. Oilers lose 1-0. Good start from Connor Ingram, a quality start. He did his part. I thought Doc and Frederick were physical. They each had six points. McDavid was going. He was also engaged. I want to know how many of you, and here's the thing, it comes across as a loser's lament. But let's not BS each other here. There was a lot of crap going on in that game.
They picked off McDavid, interfered with him multiple times. I'm not sure what game Kelly Sutherland was watching, but there was at least three or four times where the L.A. Kings could have been called with interference. I mean, they were playing McDavid hard. And in that game, they got away with it. And it was a 1-0 low-scoring game.
Chapter 8: What are the key player performances to watch in tonight's game?
I didn't like Edmonton's first period. I got to give the owners credit. I thought they played pretty good second and third. I thought they played good defensively. But I thought the game was managed on a slow track. Like, the ice was slow. And... But I thought it was managed to the Kings' favor in that game because it kept Edmonton off the power play, and it just doesn't frustrate you.
And you can text us on the Ashley Fine Floors text line, 780-451-8800. Is it a loser's lament, or is it legit? Does there come a point where it's just flat-out BS? You know, and then McDavid gets a shot up, gets a glove up. Like, he ended up taking a couple penalties. One was a coincidental with Dowdy. The other one was on a little bit of a shot that he gave. And I'm like, well, wait a sec here.
He's been dealing with that all game. And my only theory can be the game must be too fast for the officials. But the stuff was so overt, you know. And just so you know, DJ Smith, right? has had success against Connor McDavid, targeted him in the past, which is what you got to do. Good coaches do it. This is the difference between the NHL, the NBA, and the NFL.
I've literally had Colin Campbell say to me, it's a time-honored tradition for the great players to play through that. He's literally stated that to me. Okay? He's literally said that to me. And I'm like, all right, there might be a degree of truth to that, but we've had some other sports that have moved away that. Like you watch international soccer and.
You know, Diego Maradona getting tackled hard in the 1982 World Cup, and he finally snaps and kicks a guy where a dude shouldn't kick a guy and gets tossed out, gets red-guarded. Or when he's in Barcelona 84, playing before he headed off to Italy, and they're sitting there cleaving the crap out of him, sliding up on him, rolling up on his ankles, kicking him every chance they got.
Well, that was how it was in the 80s. You don't do that now in soccer today. You get called. You don't hard tackle that way. It's automatic red card. You look at the NFL. You had Turkey Jones sit there and pick up Terry Bradshaw and dump him on his head. Right? You don't do that today anymore. You're not allowed to hit the quarterback late.
Hell, many of you listening to the show say they've gone too far the other way. And then in the NBA, you don't hack a star. unless you're prepared to put him to the line every time. You know, if it's Shaq, yeah, you hack him because he's not the greatest field goal or free throw shooter.
But I want to know from you, like, because I watched that game and I didn't say anything on Twitter after the game, but I got to tell you, it was pretty obvious what was happening. And on a night in which they've got the whistles put away, it works to the advantage of the aggressive. Now, the only response back can be play their stars hard too. Play their guys hard.
That's the only way you can defend yourself as a team against that. But I want to know what you think. Is it a loser's lament or was it legitimate? Was it legitimate to sit there and suggest... Man, they put their whistles away in that game, and it worked to the Kings' advantage. I mean, the Oilers do have the best power play in the National Hockey League.
