What did Conor McDavid call the Pacific Division? What was the official term? Was it a turtle derby or what was it? Pillow fight. A pillow fight. Well, we are one Vegas win away for the Pacific Division having the fourth consecutive year. as the Western Conference's team for the Stanley Cup. Hard to believe. You know what this shows you? Because we have Aidan Gannon with you.
Aidan, I'll say it once, I'll say it a hundred times. So here's how this thing works, right? Like we have guys in the province of Alberta, not the Sutters, because the Sutters are cheering for the Oilers, but we have dudes in the province of Alberta, maybe down in Calgary, and they use terms like the fumbled dynasty for the Oilers.
Like, they enjoy watching Edmonton, you know, lose a opening round playoff series to the Anaheim Ducks. And it fits the narrative of what they sell down there. Because, you know, when your organization has had six playoff series victories since 1991... and the Oilers had nine in the four previous years, you're enjoying watching Edmonton fail in the opening round against the Anaheim Ducks.
And ultimately, it played a significant factor in costing Chris Knobloch his job. But guess what? Why did it happen? How much did injuries at center perhaps... compromised Evanston to the point that they were ultimately vanquished by the Anaheim Ducks. Certainly affected them on the penalty kill. No Adam Henrik knocked out in the first game. He's their best penalty killer.
Leon Dreisaitl, Connor McDavid, neither at 100%. Jason Dickinson, in and out of the lineup during the course of the series. That's significant injuries down the middle. Now. Take a look at what has happened here with Colorado. They won the President's Trophy. We're talking about the President's Trophy. They won the President's Trophy.
They were the best team in the league by a mile in the regular season. Kael McCarr has to miss game one and game two. Colorado loses both games at home. Then McKinnon takes a shot yesterday. McCarr tries to come back. And the Colorado Avalanche, who had not blown a lead all season long, blow a 3-0 lead, and end up losing 5-3 to Vegas. And now, they're in the crapper, man. They are in big trouble.

Chapter 2: What did Conor McDavid call the Pacific Division?
You have no idea what's going on, you know. And so we have people that want to judge. And, you know, I had this conversation with a guy that was quite popular here. And we had an animated conversation one time, and he said, Stoff, you've lived.
So when I sit there and go on the air and say, well, I can tell you, as a guy now, as Jack Michaels pointed out, in my seventh decade, but only 60 years of age, it may end up looking like I'm 40. and younger and younger with each and every day. You know it, brother, right?
Yes, sir. All those steps, man, they're working.
We're up to like 15,000 a day now.
Killing it.
It's a two-hour walk every morning, right? There you go. So, you know, up and cut across 103rd. go up to 104th, make my way down to 99th.
From 99th, across the high-level bridge, go down the backside of the university, down by Emily Murphy Park, come up across the bridge, go up towards Le Marchand Mansion, where many years ago I met the man who would be the future owner of the Edmonton Oilers, Daryl Cates, and George LaRock, and then yours truly. It was often referred to as... This was in the days of Total Sports on 1260.
a billionaire, a millionaire, and a thousandaire working out at the same time together. So anyways, and then walking back on 100th to 104th and then make my way back to the condo, right? Anyways, you never know. So you never know what people are going through. You never know what they're working on.
And we have people that cast aspersions sometimes without actually knowing the truth behind the scenes, right? David Staples brought up Carter Hart the other day. I can tell you right now, I monitored the text line. You know, once those players were acquitted, right, people were not in favor of signing Carter Hart here in Edmonton. Well, right now Carter Hart is the best goalie in the playoffs.

Chapter 3: How did injuries affect the Oilers' playoff performance?
The Oilers didn't play particularly well after that happened the rest of the way in the series. Was there a missed opportunity because there was a lack of emotion? Whatever the case, we are watching Colorado, the top team in the league, with a great head coach, Jared Benner, and give Vegas credit. They rallied from 3-0 down, and they took that game over yesterday.
And right now, Colorado's knee-deep in it. There is no question about it. Of course, we are at Exit Oilers Now. You can tweet me personally, Bob underscore Stauffer, Aiden Ganim at Aiden Ganim underscore. We're also on Instagram, and you can find us at Oilers underscore now underscore. All right, Ryan Rashog was on from TSN on the Got Your Back podcast on Friday. He had this to say on Bruce Cassidy's situation.
I mean, I don't have any inside information, so I'm just giving my opinion based on reading everything that's happened, Bob. Why would they? Why would they go through all this rigmarole and then be like, no, okay, fine, you can talk to them? Like, literally, it is not a distraction. That was total BS. All due respect to Kelly McCrimmon, like, it's easy to say yes or no.
Sign a piece, whatever you got to do. It is such BS while we're focused on the playoffs. But it's such garbage. So they don't want to do it because of the competitive implications of doing it. That doesn't change after, you know, this scenario happens.

Chapter 4: What challenges are the Colorado Avalanche facing in the playoffs?
that plays out in Vegas, whether they move on or don't. So if they do eventually grant permission and the Oilers are allowed to talk to them, I'll almost respect them less. I'll almost be like, what? All of that for what? Why? Because you were mad at the league? Or because you were being petulant? So honestly, if they all of a sudden pull an about face and are like, okay, yeah, now you can.
Like, what are you doing? That to me would border on pathetic. What was all this for then? This is not a distraction, Bob. There is zero chances of a distraction. And it's kind of insulting to everybody to throw that out there and be like, we're not taking questions. Okay, we're going to chew on that ridiculous fall of logic and not be allowed to ask questions? Right.
All right, so we all know Bruce Cassidy. Assuming Vegas will end up at some point allowing all NHL teams to interview him and give them permission, he'd be at the top of most lists. A lot of people, myself included, have Peter Laviolette Clearly in the top two as well.
Chris Pronger went to the Oilers with the Oilers in 06 against Peter Laviolette, losing the Stanley Cup final to the Hurricanes that year. And then he went with Laviolette with the Flyers in 2010 to the Stanley Cup final. Laviolette also took. The Nashville Predators to the Stanley Cup final. Oh, by the way, Laviolette won 55 games with the New York Rangers like three years ago.
This guy's won a lot of games as a coach. Here is Hall of Famer Chris Pronger on Peter Laviolette.
Very detailed. He's got an offensive system, which I think when you look at the Oilers, a lot of the Our commentary is around they need secondary scoring. They need more than the big guys carrying the load offensively. This system will help that from an offensive standpoint in how they get on the grind game and how they play below the blue line and below the dots.
And then from a defensive standpoint, he has defensive structure. He's going to put players in situations to be successful. I think, if anything, as we've looked at the last couple of years, Sometimes you can get by with the offensive weapons you have, and your bullies can get hot.
At certain times of the year, players can play to their abilities and above at certain moments throughout the course of the year, but it's the consistency with which you play night in, night out, week after week, month after month, that really kind of allow a coach to show his mettle and show what they're all about. I think for Lavi, yes, he...
He can grind on you at times, I think, with some of his motivational stuff and the way he pushes you to compete night in, night out, you know, period after period, shift after shift, he's on you. But I think at this stage of the game, that's what that team needs.
